Good thing we got Madmab on our side. laugh.gif

Not to jinx anything, but I think we finally got the In-Game Media Browser code working flawlessly. No more sudden unexpected lockups and other quirky behavior that I'm noticing. If you select "View Manual" while in a game, if there is a matching zipfile or folder with the manual it will bring up the zipfile for you to select which page and it will take you there. Then you can press white or black to move forward or backwards pages. If you select "View GameFAQ" it works similarly, allowing you to select which one you want to view. Selecting "View Commercial" will automatically bring up the commercial for the game if you have it, otherwise it will just drop you into the commercial directory where you can select a commercial for viewing. Selecting "View VGMap" will bring up all collected VGMaps for the game you're playing if any exist as well. Selecting "View Other" will allow you to browse whatever media you include in your own "Other" folder. (This is a very large collection of things not necessary at all for the emus to work so is only recommenced for people with a large hard drive). There are AVGN videos there, as well as Final Fantasy artwork books and soundtracks and other fun surprises.

I don't understand how he figured the bug out or what he did, or even why it was happening in the first place, but without even being able to emulate the bugs I was having he managed to get it all working. I believe the discrepancies of our testing can be attributed to the fact that I had close to 1,000 manuals and over 1,200 GameFAQ zipfiles when I exited back to a media folder while anyone else testing only had about 3 sample files. I only noticed the freeze ups on Super Mario Brothers and Dusty Diamond's All-Star Softball out of all the games I tested, but only seeing it on one game would be enough for me not to trust the code.

Thanks Madmab!

One more nail in the coffin....

Back to Atari 5200/800 work for me.

Cool how many NES games have commercials?
madmab
Yeah RessX strikes me as the type who brings in a vehicle in for repair only to have it function perfectly fine. I don't know how many times he would have some hard to recreate bug and leave me scratching my head!! laugh.gif

Just glad we got that little nuisance out of the way (knock on wood).
scorp316
sad.gif The updated list doesn't have anything on the N64. I'm wondering if there is going to be an update for N64 as I am a big fan of this system. huh.gif
Though I have to say great job on the NES.
ressurectionx
N64... there's nothing to update sadly. We don't know anything about coding that emulator and so any Xtras collected for the system would have been wasted.

There's 60 or 70 commercials for the NES. I know there were a lot more out there. Hopefully people add to this collection further down the road.
ressurectionx
Just pretty much wrapping up a serious update to the Atari 5200/800 synopsis file. Now it's up to code with the other synopsis and has a ton of new information about prototypes that it didn't have before.

Almost ready to move on to PSX. cool.gif

Wow, this sounds unbelievable. So, accessing manuals, commercials, FAQs, and extras are done within a game once it is loaded and not in the game menu, right? It sounds great-- thanks to everyone for all their hard work. Truly an amazing accomplishment. ...Boy, did I join at the right time.

3D BOXART PROJECT

Last minute, and very little time!!!!!!!!

Cbagy has made some templates and scripts to turn my full 2D boxart packs into 3D boxart. These are not brilliantly elaborate 3D boxarts like hyperspins stuff with the details of the sides of the box in all their glory, but it is a way that we can quickly and relatively painlessly get a matching 3D box for every game included in the Xtras in a short amount of time. (BTW.... I'm thinking these will look amazing as .CUT file thumbnails in XBMC for command line launching.)

This is not a fully automated process, and it will take some manual work from people, so that is why I'm asking for your help. Cbagy says it takes about 10 seconds per box after you get the rhythm down. He's done about 600 Genesis boxarts so far and they look great. It makes them look like they're DVD cases on a slant, and they are viewable in the emus now with transparency so there is no "rectangular box" shadowing around them in the emu skins anymore.

Cbagy will be posting shortly with some examples and more information. If you would like to help with this, there really isn't much time left before release. Please PM cbagy about it and he can get you set up with what you need to help us get as many 3D boxart sets done as possible while I'm wrapping up some loose ends.

THANKS!!!!!!!

As promised.....

The updated datfiles for CoinOPS and FBL. This is the last work I'm doing on arcade stuff personally, so these are the final dats. Thanks to DarkMingus for pointing out the mistake with "Eyes".

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=S9OW2TLV

Also... Atari 5200/800 completely done except for Generic Boxarts now. Once I get those it's all ready to wrap up.

I'm staging PSX stuff now for testing over the next few days.

Finally I'll have to make sure manuals and strategy guides are small enough for the Box to handle and get them all finally integrated.

And that's about it......

Almost there,

P.S. PLEASE HELP OUT WITH THE 3D ARTWORK PROJECT!!!!!!!!!!

The-Ice-Man
That 3D stuff's looking pretty good there.
ressurectionx
Yeah. Pretty sweet. From what I can tell we are well into the Genesis, NES and Master System sets already.

Great work team. cool.gif
The-Ice-Man
So at the moment, how many emulators are actually able to correctly display the 3D artwork?
ressurectionx
Not sure... I'd guess 5 of them. I think those fixes came after the last "all emu" update.

They'll all be able to display them when released to the public. It's just a matter of who's going to get the artwork done.

I did my part. Full 2D sets for all games included in every system I cover. (Except for PSX and Atari 800 which are only recieving limited releases). Gilles' generic boxart fill in for all the games that either we couldnt' find boxart for or there wouldn't be any in the first place.

The guys are making me proud here. Hopefully the little setback with the PSX bug and the remaning testing I have to do on it gives them enough time to convert all my 2D stuff into 3D.

I'd also like to see the guys at HyperSpin update our 2D stuff with the amazing 3D stuff they do someday. That would take MUCH longer than we have before the Xtras 1.0 release though.

Okay.....

Probably too soon to say, but I do believe we've eradicated the PSX bugs. Thanks madmab!

I've managed to add 71 games to the "keep" pile so far. You can check out the spreadsheet for PSX to see which games are making the cut as they happen.

I need some help with SCUMMVM from anyone who is familiar with the emu. I have some questions:

1) Is the release dated in December of 2007 the absolute latest version available?

2) Monkey Island and a few other games play with no sound. There are a few that play music but don't play voice and I'm pretty sure they're supposed to have voice support. Is there a compatibility/settings list for SCUMMVM anywhere on this site?

3) Broken Sword has an intro that tells you to go to the SCUMMVM official website for the FMV samples for the game. Is there a lot of extra stuff for games like audio and stuff that you can get there that may not be in any official game release?

Thanks,
~Rx
The-Ice-Man
I might actually be able to help a little with ScummVM, I use the PC version, and have original CD images of most of the popular games. Which games play without sound? If I have the games I can tell you for definite whether they should have voice or not. For FMV and audio, what I do is use the original game data, rather than using compressed video/audio. It takes up a lot more space in some cases, but guarantees you get it to work. The only exception is for games that use redbook audio. I rip the audio to mp3 for those so that I don't have to have the CD in the drive while playing. I have both Broken Swords for example, and I don't use the FMV samples from the website, I use the orginal data from the CDs. Using compressed audio/video is a choice for if you want to save space. If you've got plenty of space, there's no advantage to using samples, in fact you're getting lower quality playback if you do.

I am of course talking from experience of the latest PC versions. I realise that the Xbox port is very out of date in comparisson.

Yeah... looks like I got disconnected in the middle of the night and now I can't log in.

Looks like they changed the site up a bit. Different colors and stuff. I'm thinking they did an "upgrade" recently.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it....
ressurectionx
Does anybody know how to get the cutscenes working for Broken Sword II in ScummVMx?

Also, I can't get voices to work in the first game, even though I have a "Speech" folder.

Nevermind. Figured it out.

3 tips....

1) flac doesn't work on the Xbox version. Grab the OGG files.

2) speech and any *.clu, *.clv, *.clg files (depending on the compression of the version you're using) all go right in the main rom directory. Do not separate these into "Speech" folders, and move them out of the speech folders if the version you have places them there (as all the versions I tried did).

3) In the "Paths" tab in the emu, choose the directory with your *.dxa & *.ogg files for the "Extras" folder. Then the cut-scenes will work.

I'm betting only the most die-hard ScummVM fans have figured out how to get all these games working. There's been a lot of conversions from flac to ogg going on and just figuring out what is the "best" version to use. So far this is my compatibility list....

Please note that both games work on Winuaex and are similar. And i'm certain that password check are properly removed (as usual on amiga).

Hey waal,

Right now I'm only using DOS games, and not the Amiga games for SCUMMVMx.

I've updated my list quite a bit since you looked at it before posting. I've got a lot of games working now and I believe the ones without voices or cutscenes just didn't have them in the first place.

UPDATE:

All testing for ScummVMx is done, unless waal can get the last few games working that I couldn't.

Support for over 200 PSX games totaling over 130GB has been completed. I will still be working on adding more to this in the next few days.

3D boxart is coming along great. Cbagy and Bigby (and I think some others) are working hard to get these done before release.

All other systems that I am including are 100% finished.

I'm requesting help from people who are involved in the project to test the manuals in the new emus. Any that are blank or kick you back out to the list will be resized to work if I can get help from people to test them while I'm doing other things.

Still need help remaking those 21 SNES vids that could use replacements.

Still waiting on Philo to get the new commercials to me so I can add them before release.

Release for Rx 1.0 is imminent..... cool.gif

Ok, here's what happened.

Bargon Attack (DOS): Demo works with sound & voices. Reboots to dash when i try to enter a game. I know my version works on PC and on my... DS.

Future Wars (DOS): Works but you have to pass manual protection. Players need to print the boxart picture coz the game is said to be cracked and... isn't in fact. Lame lame lame...

Nippon Safe: Amiga version crashes like any other game that use amiga drive on this port obviously. Leads straight to dash.
But the good news is the DOS version works. I actually played it. Don't know yet if the manual protection was removed, though.

uh well i'm done with this port tonight. Apple II forever (since last weekend).

nytmar3
I'll be knocking the 21 SNES videos out tonight. No need for anyone else to worry about those.

JB
ressurectionx
Yeah... those are the same results I got pretty much.

I guess I'll put the copyright protected games in there too. Just going to have to make a note that you need to use the passwords to get in. Maybe I can compile a quick list if it's not too difficult. There's only like 4 of them.

The Leisure Suit Larry one is pretty funny though. You have to answer 5 questions to get in the game and it tells you that you're a kid if you don't get them right. Guess they didn't think that 23 years later a lot of these questions might be irrelevant and that if you didn't live in the states and you're not a big fan of Jeopardy that there's probably no way you're getting in to play. I passed the first time, and then reloaded it to see if you had to answer those again, which you did, and I miserably failed.

I remember loading and reloading that game until I'd get all the questions right. I was determined. (Thank god for multiple choice.) Looking back, there are actually some funny questions in the batch-- I'm sure I didn't understand the majority of them back in the pre-teen days--- the creator of the game has them all written out on his site: http://www.allowe.com/Larry/1questions.htm
Pulsemasta
RX, did you guys make a new interface for SCUMM?
ressurectionx
No... we did not make a new interface, although I'd love to see one. We also need somebody to put in the ability to adjust the screen size since on my TV it cuts off a little from all 4 sides.

The newest version of ScummVMx I'm aware of was from December of 2007. If you find one newer, let me know.
ressurectionx
All SNES video remakes are done. Thanks to MM for the first 80 or so and then to nytmar3 for rounding it out with the last 21 vids. They look great guys. cool.gif

Thanks for that Larry 1 info losgar.

The problem with these questions now is: they're only good at identifying someone over age 41 now!!

LOL... I couldn't have said it better myself.

I will include a document with those answers in them, although there is a keyboard shortcut that you can use to bypass them as well. It's kind of moot though. At first I thought that the shortcut would be no good for people without a keyboard, but then again, people without a keyboard can't play the game anyhow.
ressurectionx
nytmar3 has been testing the manuals in 480p with Gilles' Dynamic Skins (which are the most memory intensive skins available). It looks like between NES, SNES and Genesis I will have about 50-75 manuals I need to resize to work. Thankfully nytmar3 will be testing all the other systems as well. I wasn't going to take the time to do this myself, but it's nice that we can now have the same quality control on manuals as we've had everywhere else.

If somebody would be interested in testing the VGMaps in the same way for us, that would be great. There are a lot less VGMaps to test than manuals.

On the PSX front.....

Support for over 250 games now added. I'm going through about 150 more games and will wrap that up in a few days.

I will have to collect all the artwork, videos, gamefaqs, manuals VGMaps and create synopsis entries for all included games.

This probably won't take as long as it sounds. PLEASE help fill in the missing videos as I test so we can have them ready when it's time for release. pCe slayer has volunteered to do this, but anyone else with the games is encouraged to help him out. There will probably be quite a few that still need vids when the testing is done.

~Rx

nytmar3
I'm downloading a bunch of stuff from the FTP right now, I can do VGMaps after I finish up the manuals. So that's one more thing no one else has to worry about.
ressurectionx
Thanks buddy.

I'll be looking at your results and fixing the manuals/vgmaps this weekend. cool.gif
ressurectionx
Fear not about the late release, those of you not currently involved with the project...

Since about the 17th the 1.0 Xtras have been provided via other means to people actively helping with the project or those who have helped before. These pre-downloads by those helping with the project will help everyone come release time because there will be more than just one seeder when it starts out.

This will be different than any emulation download you've ever seen. How many of you have discontinued seeding a collection the moment it was done because you were busy renaming and editing stuff?

The Xtras will put that to an end.....

There will be no reason not to seed once you have the Xtras because the Xtras seed will be an exact duplicate backup of what you have on your XBox.

Name editing in the future for console roms will be done via synopsis and database files. To do so with other files would be foolish, since you'd have to change anywhere from 3 to 11 names for every game file name you change. The Xtras file names are not much more than MAME names from now on, although it is much easier to figure out which rom is to which game than you ever could have done with MAME names.

Don't fight it.....

Sotu or anybody who used his X-COM fix successfully still around?

I'm pulling my hair out smile.gif

I can't figure out how to get it to work with his fixes.

Was that a fix for PSX or for DOS?

PSX.

I've got the DOS version working, but the PSX version is superior.

UPDATE!

Anyone who has a 250GB hard drive is set.

Without PSX, the Xtras and all the roms you'd need to make use of them are just under 200GB. smile.gif

EDIT: This also includes the 21GB dedicated to Daphne and the 800MB dedicated to CPS3 which unfortunately cannot be put in the "Media" section since the emu depends on the roms being in the emu folders. Hopefully somebody can open these emus up and fix that in the future so all the roms can be put in the Media folder instead.

If you're not interested in either of these arcade systems, as well as PSX, the Xtras and roms actually are only around 178GB. Remove all of the Sega CD and TurboGrafxCD games and it's even much less. cool.gif

UPDATE 2

First posts on thread have been updated. All old Xtras have been removed to avoid confusion come release time.

I would love if some of you would take the time to zip the folders of the Xtras which you've gotten off the FTP and put them on MegaUpload for the people here to download. Of course no roms and movies since they're both against the rules here.

Please let me know if you would be willing to upload some of these packs so more people can get stuff staged for the upcoming release. The more seeds, the quicker we all get EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!

I've got another 500GB XBox set up now. cool.gif

I'm going to start transferring things to it as they're done. Then I'm going to test that the emus work, completely configured, and make any necessary adjustments so they work close to perfect for everyone right out of the box. Because of different TVs and such, I'm sure some adjustments would need to be made for some people, but it will be nothing compared to trying to configure these things all from scratch.

We're getting real close now.

I have absolutely no games left to test. FINALLY!!!!!!

We're just working on perfecting some things before launch. wink.gif

Sorry again for not getting this out on March 15th. That date was more for myself to push to get what I wanted in and to cut the stuff that I really didn't care about, otherwise this would have gone on forever.

Thanks for your continued patience. It will so be worth your wait.

Later,

Will there be 'complete' packages available somewhere else?
