Hey everybody. I know there are some people who have talked to me and have talked to madmab about making videos.

Could everyone who is making videos (madmab and gilles included) let me know what you're working on so nobody is working on the same vids?

Thanks,
~Rx

Thanks retroplay! I'll get the final SNES videos pack posted soon. It will have Nightmare Busters, the last set of videos you posted and the current set.

Hey e51v50h,

Thanks for the help. It's great that you will work on these. I know there are a lot of games that need videos yet for the Genesis, so I thank you in advance for all the work you'll be doing here.

madmab has finished the Colecovision videos and just needs to get them to me and I'll post the entire set.

Gilles did 16 videos for Virtual Boy off of youtube that I will post as well when I get them.

This is all really coming together. Thanks for all your efforts!
~Rx

UPDATE:

Added the final video pack for SNES. You can get it HERE.

Thanks all goes to Retroplay for these videos as he made all of them.

Powermonger. Great game (at least the Amiga version). Had a friend who played it all the time. But honestly do not remember myself. Most likely it operates similar to Powermonger.
ressurectionx
Man, this freaking Gameboy set is a nightmare. It took me nearly 2 days just to get the directory structure set up for the screenshots and to match the romnames (and fit within the 38 character limit) and another 5 hours to convert the Gameboy Advanced and half of the Gameboy artwork. (I hope the Gameboy artwork is big enough... it looks pretty small) I haven't even scratched the Gameboy Color artwork. Unfortunately, the sets that I had for Color and regular Gameboy aren't as extensive as the Advance and they only include US roms so I will have a lot of downloading boxes off of gamefaqs to get the Europe artwork.

After that..... Nearly 2000 games ahead of me for testing. That will easily take a weekend if not two. Hope you guys are having a good time with the videos so we can get some more stuff uploaded in the mean time. I'm going to be stuck on the Gameboy for quite a long time I think. Got another hour or so before I call it quits for the week.

Here's the current status of things....

EDIT: I just checked the Gameboy boxart and they're fine. They even don't look so bad on my bigscreen TV at full screen. They're all around 65-95kb a piece. I'd like them to be bigger, but they look great when viewed in a smaller artwork preview screen so I'm fine with it. If anyone knows where to find a set of Gameboy and Gameboy color boxarts that include Europe roms, let me know. It will make my life a lot easier.

Also... does anyone know where to find the cartridge artwork for all of the Gameboy systems? I can't find that anywhere, so I'm not sure it even exists.

I'm done for the weekend. Take it easy,
~Rx
Mega Man (?)
Hey Rx,

Do you need all gameboy and gameboy color boxes or just European? I have some GBC boxes and a few GBC cart scans, let me know.
ressurectionx
Any cartridges you have for any of the gameboy systems are good. I also need European boxes for Gameboy and Gameboy Color. (Actually, I don't even believe I have full US sets, so whatever you have for either of these systems is good). I don't need any boxart for Gameboy Advance.

Thanks in advance if you have any of these.

Later,
~Rx
Mega Man (?)
Yeah,

I have 250 GBC boxes, 60 GBC Carts, and 11 GB carts, I got most from mobygames.com and I got them all by hand, do you have a pack of GBC boxes or just a personal collection?
gilles9999
they have almost all the us box here, you knew that site i suppose rzx?

screenshots and boxarts archive

the xbox emulation repository had them all in the past (genesis boxarts in the good format, all the title screenshots, HQ boxarts, etc...) perheaps guybird or someone else still have them?
Mega Man (?)
Hey Gilles, awesome site! no gameboy cart scans though.

Rx, I am putting together my own pack of cart scans
ressurectionx
Hey guys. Nope... I didn't know about that site before. I'll have to check it out. Thanks for the link. Most of my stuff has come from torrent sites or emumovies. I was just a little disappointed at the half-sets and low resolution for the gameboy, genesis and mastersystem/gamegear stuff out there compared to the great NES/SNES/Atari sets. Unfortunately, at only 5mb I'm pretty sure that these are as small as the pics I have for Gameboy, but they might have ones that I'm missing, so I'll check them out. It's really not all that bad to have .pngs that are around 65-95kb each. Sure, they don't look nearly as good as previous releases that were much larger at full screen, but I'll never view them that large and they look just fine in a smaller preview window.

Any carts you have would be great MM, but since I am pretty damn far off from releasing good datfiles for the gameboy (I have to test and de-dupe nearly 2000 roms), I'm not sure what the best way of doing this would be. I'd tell you to name them all "0004.png", but since the dats aren't out you'd probably have much different names on a lot of the screenshot folders. So I guess if you can get a whole bunch of them together and just keep them by game title, I can add them to my set by hand. That's probably the best way, and I've already done that for about 15 to 20 thousand images already. (If we were to get a full set of carts for Gameboy, for example, that set would run nearly 8,000 images alone between Box/Cart/Title/Action artwork)

You won't hear too much from me for the next week or so probably, but I'll be back around. I'm hoping to complete everything on GG/Mastersystem and GB/GBC/GBA by the end of the year. Hopefully we get help with the videos and have full sets by then so I can start releasing the Xtras for those systems. I've got a whole set of perfect NES artwork just waiting for the videos to be created for release as well.

Thanks again,
~Rx
gilles9999
Oh, i forgot to mention THIS SITE

the cover project

the ultimate web site for high quality box scans (all my boxarts come from this site)
p.s. (rzx, ii'll give you the boxarts i have already converted for zsnexbox ~300 games (500 pixels width, the maximum possible quality,in png format) i'm using the programm XNVIEW to convert multiple jpg in png at the same time

i have also a good collection of genesis boxarts from this site too (500 pixels height)
my high quality boxarts are generally 200,250 kb
Mega Man (?)
Hey Gilles, That is a cool site too, thanks

Rx, My carts are around 70kb and they look pretty good, much better than ones of around 10kb.

Right now I have 170 gameboy carts.

my box scans are around 70 - 80kb and look really good at this resolution, again the 10kb aren't cutting it.
ressurectionx
I'll have to check that site out too Gilles. I'm already done with the SNES and Genesis though. If it were made in a way where I could pretty much drag and drop them I might add them, but as the gameboy smaller artwork previews show, it really isn't that huge a deal to have maximum resolution. Maybe if I get some free time I'll add the better scans.

Sounds good MM. I'm in no rush, so whatever you can get is great. I probably won't be working on this stuff again until Saturday or Sunday.

Later guys,
~Rx
madmab
Alot of stuff originated from the screenshot archives anyways. They were like one of the first to have something like this.

Ugg. It's really agitating to have a decent size .wmv practically double when converting to .xmv. I'll have to work harder on making my movies shorter.
ressurectionx
I tip my hat to them for all of their work. I've been making my own screenshots for the better part of a decade not even being aware of sites that had them compiled (in the days before torrents and other great places to find these collections). Hell... I remember taking about 10 floppy disks to college with me and downloading NES roms after class for the infamus Nesticle back home. I'd spend a few hours at college some days just downloading the roms one at a time from actual websites before all the freaky rules came out. Can you actually believe there was a time when we could have just posted every damn thing right here for everyone to download? Seems like another life now. The box and carts wouldn't even be a dream now if it wasn't for all those people who took the time out of their day to scan them and the people who collected these images and provided them all to us. There's no way I would have ever collected the 15,000 plus images I have on my Box today. By the end, it will probably be close to 30,000 images.

Our Xtras is just another evolutionary step up the emu-ladder. cool.gif

Yeah... it's a damn shame that .XMV is the only way to go and that some of these videos are 100 times larger than the games themselves. I've actually had more than one conversation with people in here who are happy they don't have to download the finished .XMV's because in their country or area even in the US they have bandwidth limits. Fortunately for me, my only bandwidth limit is the crappy modem my cable company gave me that likes to die on a regular basis and my crappy computer that I will probably upgrade after I'm done beating the hell out of this one to get the work done. (I've already destroyed one computer because of how hot I ran it doing my Xtras work about 2 years ago).

It will be worth it in the end though. I don't imagine that anyone with a 500GB hard drive couldn't have every single Xtra that will be provided in the end and even have room left for some playstation and XBox games.... and even some CD+G karaoke disks if they want to get their Diva on blink.gif

Hello, I am a big fan of this project and I am willing to help in any way possible. I am alos a big fan of the .cut files for xbmc. It makes it so theres a nearly seamless integration of the emulator with the media center and Its got a nice look to it. Now my question is this. Is there any way to get XMv videos to play instead of or in addition to the thumbnail in the mediacenter from a .cut file. I know it sounds confusing but basically when I'm in the media center and I'm browsing through .cut files I'm flipping through box covers it would be great if a video could come up right in the media center. Anyone have any idea if there is any way to do this?

pretty sure there isn't a way to do this.... from what I've read, preview videos in xbmc have been requested many times, similiar to the videos in unleashx. But the function was never implemented. I was interested in something like this too.
ressurectionx
Yeah... that's a bit outside of my scope man. I am interested in the .cut files myself, but I dont' even know how to do them cause I want to get this emu stuff down first. What would you be interested in helping with KB? I've pretty much got the testing, de-duping, artwork and manuals down for the major emus (and the datfiles), madmabs working hard on some badass upgrades to the emus and gilles is working on the skins. Always tons of videos that need to be made though if you are interested.

Hey Rx,
I am trying the video tools and I have some wmv's I made with WME 9, When I put them in your xmv file it doesn't seem to work.

I know I read something along the line that only WME 8 works, but I don't know how to get it , your pack says that it will just install WME 9 again.

can someone please help? Thanks
Mega Man (?)
tongue.gif Never mind guys,

I figured out how to manipulate the WME profiles to make it work.
biggrin.gif
ressurectionx
Glad you figured it out man. I don't know crap about that stuff really. I just have a good batch Horscht made that converts AVI's to WMV and a good batch made by NES to convert WMV to XMV. I'm absolutely no help here otherwise.

Which vids were you looking to work on MM? I believe we have the Coleco, Virtual Boy and Genesis spoken for now, but there are plenty of NES videos to work on. Let me know.

Also.....

Anyone who is seriously working on making videos for the project, PM me your gmail address and I'll grant you access to the spreadsheet for the system you're working on so you can put your name in to check off which videos you've done so nobody else works on them.

~Rx
gilles9999
Ok i have pm you the virtual boy videos (they come and were converted by me from youtube and tv game ads)
so the virtual boy videos are a mix of commercial and in game videos, but in each videos you see the in game so it's cool
i have sent the file to megaupload this time, so you won't have to transfer this file to megaupload rezx
Mega Man (?)
Hey Rx,

Yeah, I was first going to see If I can do it properly. I think I can.

I'll send you my gmail, I am interested in doing some NES vids.
gilles9999
You are doing great stuff megaman,
always good to see people involved like you here
Mega Man (?)
Thanks a lot Gilles!

I am happy I can help. cool.gif

My vids keep coming out clipped at the sides. I noticed that some of the vids made in the SNES pack were like this.

I'm using Fce for NES

Can anyone help me eliminate this problem? thanks
ressurectionx
I PMd madmab to see if he can give you any advice since nobody has replied to your question yet MM. I'd also PM Sotu, Retroplay, Horscht and Barbie_on_Weed. B_o_W is the only person I know who has successfully done any NES videos, so you may want to start there, but I don't know how often he comes around since I haven't seen him in a while.

Well if I get a chance I'll load up FCE and see what happens.

I keep trying different things, but I'm still getting the same result with the screen size thing.
ressurectionx
Hey Gilles,

I'm renaming your VB videos now and packing them up for a release. I was wondering if you could get these for me before I do:

Waterworld: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88YPkAKNpMc

Insane Mouse Mansion: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dhriE3i8ScQ

Space Squash: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dJ7vcalPs90 (You'd have to edit out part of the space squash game since it's got more than just that game and the vid is over 6 minutes long).

V-Tetris: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4G34RIeWd3k

Blox: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ckGDn_BmYCw (some editing required to remove user comments at beginning)

.................

That's all I could find that you didn't already make. Great work on those vids by the way. Bummer that we can't find videos for licensed rom Virtual League Baseball. Also can't find any for Homebrews Etch-A-Sketch, Matrix, Simon, Tic-Tac-Toe and Virtual Pong.

.....but we take what we can get. It's not as if it's critical with the Virtual Boy anyways since none of the games work 100% anyways. I was thinking of putting a generic Virtual Boy commercial for the preview on all the games that didn't have a preview made.

I also have to hunt down a few new games since there are videos for them. I didn't have Bound High or Space Invaders.

Later man,
~Rx
gilles9999
here are the missing videos (you were right how shitty it was to find them),
but we have them it's the most important
some are black and white (they are played like this in the emu)

missing virtual boy videos

I have also a good solution, to keep video from any emulator who run in a window:
it is CAMSTUDIO a fantastic freeware that can record (in avi) everything you are doing in a window. love.gif
select the place where you want to record video and push the record button smile.gif
(don't forget to go to option/record audio from speakers or else you won't have audio in your videos)

camstudio for emulators videos
ressurectionx
Thanks Gilles,

I'll take a look at that program, but I'll bet it doesn't work for me. Whenever I do any video work the audio always gets messed up on my computer. I should put it in my thread though as an alternative for people to make vids with. That would probably help a lot for the emulators that do not have built in recording functions.

Thanks for those extra videos. I'll get them all packaged up and if somebody does the missing games I'll re-release the video pack.

Later,
~Rx

EDIT: Oh cool... I see you got the Baseball game and a few others I couldn't find. I guess you made them with that program you mentioned? We just need some homebrew games done. I know they're pretty crappy, but it would make a full set. I suppose we could use a generic Virtual Boy commercial instead if you didn't want to do them.

Etch A Sketch
MATRIX
Simon
Tic Tac Toe
Virtual Pong

EDIT 2: I just found a collection of rare dumps that was released yesterday! Now we have the game Space Invaders to go with the video that you made Gilles. We will also need videos for the following games now too:

SD Gundam Dimension War
Virtual Bowling
Virtual Lab

All are Japanese, all are previously unreleased. All are text light or completely in English.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like we'll ever get the Bound High game to go along with that video Gilles.
Bound High: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bound_High

Thanks again,
~Rx
madmab
btw. On colecovision videos. I'm up to the letter "S" on homebrew. After I finish that then I just need to do a handful of Adam specific games.
ressurectionx
Nice....

Looking forward to getting those posted madmab. I see you're making a video for frantic. Dammit. I thought I had them all. I'll have to find it and go back and re-do all the extras now. Nice find though. I couldn't find it anywhere. You got anymore I couldn't find?

~Rx
ressurectionx
Anybody have a recent datfile for Master System or Game Gear? I am going to start making my list of MS and GG games, but the Dat-O-Matic at no-intro doesn't seem to be working now. It keeps telling me "Unknown column 'Special' in 'field list'" whenever I try to create a datfile.

On the last few systems that I'm starting I would like to use the newest roms so there isn't any problems that people have to re-do in other datfiles. I can't do any work on Sega MS/GG until I get these datfiles.

Nevermind.... it works now. Must have had a problem on the site earlier or something.

Thanks,
~Rx
ressurectionx
Has anybody seen any box/cart artwork for the SG-1000? Videos?

I can't find anything on this system.
gilles9999
here are the homebrew, missing games etc... for virtual boy

virtualboy homebrew-unreleased
madmab
I think sg-1000 emulation was added rather late so I'd be surprised if there were any movies out there.
ressurectionx
Thanks Gilles!

madmab,

I know it's been around for at least 2 years on the XBox. I had the games on there when I did preliminary Sega testing years back. I think it's more likely that emumovies just didn't do them because it wasn't a system that was released in the US. The US vids seem to be their MO, although I do see that on their FTP server they're starting to get some European vids that I need to incorporate into my lists.

I kind of expect that with the videos, Bummer that I can't find the boxart/cartart though.

Hello,

I am still not having any luck with making vids for the screen size keeps getting clipped. I have tryed NES and Sega Genesis. and I get the same results. I am trying all sorts of options.

It is probably something simple I am overlooking. Again, I see that some SNES vids were made like this and some were not. (Like they were stretched to fit the whole screen)

If any one knows anything about this, help is appreciated.

Hey Rx, Let me know anytime you need my Gameboy collections
I have
  1. 179 GB Cart Scans
  2. 81 GBC Cart Scans
  3. and about 80 GBA cart scans at the moment
  4. Also 250 pretty good quality GBC box scans
I'll be getting more GBA carts but, I don't know where I could possibly find any more good cart scans

Hey man. Whenever you want to send them to me is great. If you're still working on them, no rush. I'm working on the Master System / Game Gear now anyways. Having an easier time finding stuff for that, believe it or not.

I can't believe nobody knows how to fix that problem. Doesn't seem like it should be so difficult. Good luck with that.

Well I downloaded FECUX 2.02 from the site linked to by ressX at the beginning of the thread.

Did a quick record of Super Mario Brothers 3. Playing back just the raw uncompressed .avi I did not see any "clipping".

Now the video is recorded at 256x224 and the script that I got from a thread here to convert from .avi to .wmv changes it to 320x240. Or tell whatever program you are using to convert to not change the video size.

So I'm wondering if by clipping are you saying it is "cutting off" the sides and top/bottom? Or adding extra space to the sides and top/bottom?

If it is putting a black border around the movie what you should do is edit the .xml file (I think that is the file) so the ending resolution is 256x224.

Other than that, I don't know what to say. If you can name some of the ones in the SNES pack that have similar "clipping" than maybe I can get a better idea.

I guess it is adding extra space to the sides of the videos.

"Acrobat Mission" is an example of a SNES video in the pack. I check the videos with Windows media player and put them in full screen mode. Most show full screen , but some (like this and mine) don't.

Thanks a lot for your help madmab.

Edit: actually a lot of SNES videos are like this but when used on Zsnexbox they look full.
When I put my NES video on Mednafenx - nes, It had that extra space on the sides.
This made it so the video didn't have full screen.

Almost sounds like when they converted they did to a specific size. Best thing to do is to set your conversion software to leave the size alone. (unless the source size is smaller than the destination size).

I'll take a look at those ones you mentioned and see if it is doing that.

Considering that most console systems emulated go no higher than 320x240 I see no reason to leave the video size alone. The emulator automatically "stretches" the image to fit the window anyways.

Got it madmab,

playing the emulator, it keeps the black space on the sides. (Mednafenx), But the videos come out like this before I even convert them to .wmv.

my videos come out 256 x 224 from FCE and then I have tried to make them to 320x240 in WME, but still the same effect.

Is it a possible tweak in the video setup of FCE and/or the compression options it gives me, before making the video in .avi.

Zsnexbox must auto correct this or something fort those videos.

Thanks for being attentive and helping madmab cool.gif

When you convert them try to leave the resolution the same (256x224) instead of 320x240.
