Yeah Soldier Of Fortune is just one of those things I chalked up to screen tearing. laugh.gif I get so used to that kinda stuff sometimes I forget to look for it.

lol, yea thats actually what i thought it was at first, but thats some massive tearing! laugh.gif I looked into it and thats when i found out about the vdp issue, and ever since then, its been killing me to get fixed. Ive never been so dilligent to get something fixed and i dont know why. i guess sometime we just got our little things that annoy us. laugh.gif

sorry rx ill keep your thread on-topic, lol.

Been looking thru the Atari 2600 videos (emumovies) and alot of them are lacking in the sound area. Either certain sounds are missing or really low in volume. Not really sure why maybe they were recorded on an older emu. Who knows.

Putting together a list. I'm not sure when I'll get to them though. I need to wrap up the colecovision videos since they kinda filled up my writable DVD's.
ressurectionx
Hey XT,

No worries man. Talk about anything you want to here. Just keep it emu related. I have way too much politics and other crap in real life, and would hate to be the one who hosted any of that BS.

I must be blind or something guys. I'm sure that I'd see the tearing now if I looked at it, but when you've gone through literally more than 6,000 to 8,000 games, documented the findings, made or compiled the art and all the extras, I guess I just haven't really taken the time to "smell the roses". I honestly can't remember the last time I actually sat down to play a game. This takes up almost all of my free time, and after a while I guess you just kinda get in a zombified state while testing. (Sometimes I've done it nearly 18 hours straight, when I get on a roll, with little break in between) For the most part, as long as it loads and is playable I don't really give it a second thought. I try to document any problems I see, but I'm sure some just fall through the cracks. If it's in my lists, it means that I played for a few minutes, navigated through the menus to actual gameplay and that it is at least playable and doesn't freeze your Box, go to a blank screen, or just kick you back into the romlist.

Then again, I've never been Mr Observant. To tell you the truth XT, I never had a single problem with the NES pallet choice before you mentioned it and worked with madmab in his beginning XPORT efforts. Now I can tell a world of difference and when I saw how much nicer Faxanadu (my favorite NES game) looked, I quickly learned to value your judgement on those matters. We all got our nitche around here, and though it hasn't been given a priority in the recent emulation improvements, gameplay is really what it should be all about, right?

I guess I just have come to terms with the fact that if most things haven't been fixed by now, they probably won't be, or at least it's certain that they will never be on my schedule. That's not that they cannot be, but that many don't take the time to do what you're doing. Most people (me included) just get pissed off that some of our favorite games don't work perfect, or at all..... like Time Lord.

I'm glad you're noticing things like that, and if you truly have fixes in mind it makes it all worth it.

Here's me looking forward to playing a perfect version of Soldiers of Fortune with my bro for the first time in a decade with a non-tearing experience. cool.gif

Hey madmab,

Rewritable DVD's.... HAHAHAHAHAHA.....Gay... (Me doing my best Cartman impersonation on a thread cool.gif )
Sorry... been on a South Park kick recently....

You gotta do it like me man. My processor, motherboard, memory, soundcard and graphics card are older than the Personal Computer, but I've got about 2.5 TB of harddrive space to play with. (I spent the weekend organizing things and backing up some stuff I don't use and I went from having 20GB free space to 75GB free space WOO HOO!)

For shits and giggles, I should do a file count on all my hard drives and tell you what I find. I'd estimate that just my Xtras work and their backups, and the backups of the versions I've provided for download come to a grand total of somewhere over 50,000 files.

That's just the stuff I've painstakenly organized and named by hand. (Which I happily share with all of you and hope you share with others so NOBODY EVER HAS TO DO ANY OF THIS AGAIN!!!!!!) And I'd bet there's twice as much stuff that's haphazardly thrown about on my 4 hard drives that still needs sorting through.

Might I suggest that there is so much to do that we focus on what hasn't been done yet, and then go back and finalize the videos, especially for the large rombase systems? I know you say making videos doesn't take time away from what you're much better suited to do, but as you know the 2600 has TONS of videos that are already made and you could find yourself spending countless hours redoing work that has already been done, albeit beneath your standards. It's all up to you man, and I'm not trying to push you into or out of anything....

If we do a complete set now, I'll release it, and then down the road I will release new videosets for the 2600 that can just be copied over the old files easily since they're the same name. Just a thought.

For stuff I cannot record on a PC based emulator I load up on my xbox and use my DVD-recorder to record. I then import them into my PC and go from there. The Adam stuff took up three DVD's (a limitation on directory entries on the DVD).

As for the 2600 the whole point of the preview is to determine if a game is worth playing. Well IMHO alot of those emu's reduce the appeal of alot of the games. Whether it is the lack of showing any decent gameplay, or sounds missing that should be there, thus making the game to appear less than what it really is.

FWIW my plan has always been to start with the missing ones before getting to the ones I want to replace. I was reviewing the existing ones during my free time at work. It's really irritating to see these half assed efforts where it is obvious the guy just went in and recorded 30-40 seconds without, at the very least, trying to learn the game a little before actually recording.
ressurectionx
I see what you're saying man. Good on you if you want to take all that extra time on it.

FWIW?

Hey REZ~X, and the others,
Just to say, THE BEST VIDEOGAMES PREVIEWS VIDEOS OF THE WEB ARE HERE:

SCREWATTACK VIDEOS

The screwattacks videos are just awesome!! it shows the hotpoints of the games (not only the first stage)with lot of humour and Stuttering Craig is the best commentator ever!a great voice! (not a sluggish and fatguy slow voice)
You can download the videos in wmv (wmv9 exactly),so, easy to convert them in xmv
I have converted all the snes videos he made, and it's just awesome in zsnexbox with the dual preview/boxart!
He has also lot of nes and genesis videos, can't wait for the dual preview/boxart neogenesis and mednafenXnes

"Being classy is overrated....... I'm going to Hooters!"

Lode Runner

Heh... pretty good.

How many videos does he/do they have for each system?

I wouldn't replace the regular previews with them, but I wouldn't mind adding them either. Maybe we should consider an "alternate video" folder that we could tell the emulator to play if there is one instead of the standard video. That guy obviously put a lot of work in his videos, and if you got them ready to go I don't see a reason not to add them. Pretty unique feature.

We should ask Madmab what he thinks.

PS... I just tested the links that nate said were having problems on megaupload and it seems it might have been system maintenance. I don't think they've dumped any of my uploads yet. Let me know if anybody has problems with any megaupload links.

i got them downloaded now guess they it was just maintenance good news is i also got xmugen working lol so how the ressurectionxtras coming

UPDATE: Finished testing and making artwork for Sega Master System/Game Gear/SG-1000.
ressurectionx
Anybody know where to find PSX title/action screenshots?
Mega Man (?)
I don't know about finding them in a pack but, I hand made mine. I only have like 20 games though.

How many are you talking about? Are you looking to put together an Xtras or just something small?
ressurectionx
Hey MM,

Looking for all of them. I already have about 750 from when I was doing PSX testing a while back. I have been a little diverted from the Xtras work ever since I ran out of space on my computer and my Box. I've cleared up about 200GB on the computer, but my F drive is still at around 1GB free. I'm going to remove quite a bit of PSX games that aren't working well. I found a full set of nearly 1400 box scans, but I can't find CD scans or screenshots anywhere. I figured I'd make a full artwork set for PSX while I was at it if I could even though I'll probably not test the rest of the games (about 300 of them are crappy PSX sports games I'll never play). The way I figure it, all of these Xtras will be usable on the next gen that gets the homebrew treatment, and by then PSX should be much better as far as compatibility goes so I'd just get a full artwork set out for everyone on that too.

Let me know if you see any around in the future.

biggrin.gif I hope that everyone enjoys them when the Xtras are done.

( hope these are good for you too madmab laugh.gif )

Hey Rx,
I am working on the (non-working) and the missing (hombrews). I haven't found an alternate video making emu yet, but I'll look into it. cool.gif I am getting the same result with some of the (non-working) roms on FCE as well.

ressurectionx
Excellent work my man!

I'll get them all included in the pack sometime soon. Got a busy week ahead with the holiday and everything.

Not much more to go for a full NES release now. laugh.gif

Talk to madmab about how he makes his videos. I believe he uses a DVR to record them while he's playing instead of using an emulator. (I don't know if you have one at your dispoal or not) If you don't, maybe if we ask real nice he'll make the last few videos. cool.gif

From the looks of it, there's only 25 videos that still need making, and since 18 of those are non-working games, they might not be able to be made anyways.

I'll start getting the other NES Xtras ready in anticipation for the full video set to release. This should be sure to generate some new buzz around this thread. It's been pretty dead for a few weeks here.

Later,

UPDATES: Full PSX US boxart created with over 1,300 games. I'm still looking for screenshots and CD scans, but haven't had any luck with them yet.

I realize that the PSX emu doesn't play about half of them very well, if at all, but I figured we could use this stuff in the future if the emus ever get an update for the Box or we move to another platform someday.
nate1579
well the link i gave you awhile back there is a few cd scans for the PlayStation if that help any
Mega Man (?)
I've been able to make 8 of the missing non-working NES roms, and 0 of the 7 UNLICENSED.

I have tried several different emus just to see if the game will play.

I had the best luck with good old Nesticle laugh.gif It played a few that didn't before, as for making a movie, no luck in this particular case.

I can still try and see if I have another copy of the roms, to see if maybe others could work. I can get these out of my good sets hopefully.

I hope it has all the missing roms, but those Sachen games are killin. I think some of these were ones I had to hand patch, when I was making my dats.
ressurectionx
Hey MM,

Yeah... those Sachen games are really something else, aren't they? Some of them are suprisingly actually quite good, believe it or not.

Truth is, some of the games might not play on any emu. I know if they're in my list as good they play on mendafenx NES that's on our Boxes, but I couldn't tell you much more than that since before I started my compatibility lists I've never seen a compatibility list for any emu before. (Except the PSX and N64 lists here that gave me the idea to do it for all of the emus someday)

Oh god...... I think I've just come to the realization that I'm the most Monklike OCD rom collector in the world if I'm the first to do this for an emulator (let alone 12+ of them). SAY IT AIN'T SO!!!!!!!

Whatever you can do is great. Hopefully somehow we can get those final working games videos at least. I just wanted the non-working ones because I'm forward thinking here and imagining what a bummer it would be to get a new emu someday that plays all of the games and 15 videos are missing and no one is around who will do them.

No DVR, huh? I'm pretty sure madmab said that's how he made his (on rewritable DVDs). If you had one, you could just play them on your XBox and record on the DVR, put the DVD on your comp and edit them from there.

I can always put a second small pack out there if we get these in the future. I do appreciate you trying so hard to get the last remaining games very much though. I won't be able to really sit down with this stuff and make sure the names are perfect on everything before I package them up and upload them for probably at least a week, so I'm in no rush here.

Oh... and looking at the XPORT threads I was just reminded that the NES already has video preview now, even though it doesn't have dual preview or any of the almost infinite tweaks that madmab has made recently on the ADAMX emu. Awesome..... you'll all get to use the videos immediately upon release even before madmab gets around to the NES with his awesome updates.

Thanks again man,
~Rx

Hey nate,

I'll give it a look again for the CD scans. Even if they don't have them all I'll include whatever they have. Once my artwork sets start being released you'll notice a pattern. Every single game has an action shot (0003). Most games have a title screen shot (0002), but some games (mostly older ones) didn't have title screens. Most games have boxart for the major system (0001), but naturally, prototypes, betas, the few hacks that I thought were good enough and a few others don't have them because I can't find them anywhere. And lastly there is the CD/Carts (0004)........ Not many of those at all in comparison, dependign on which system we're talking about. NES, SNES, The Ataris, Sega CD, Sega 32x, Sega Master System seem to have quite a few of the US carts.... most other emus are hit-or-miss if there are any at all. I really couldn't find any cart/CDs for foreign games at all.

Overall, the artwork collection is really impressive though. It's pulled from tons of sources all over the internet and repacked to match the XPORT screenshot standard (as you can see in the SNES9XBox that run088 did a great deal of work converting from my ZSNESXBox pack before I cleaned up the loose ends and released it). It was already so good when the video previews were first released that I lobbied hard for a "Dual Preview" ability in ZSNESXBox since I didn't want all of that hard work to go to waste on the systems I'd already done it for since I would choose videos over screenshots anyday if required to choose. Hopefully soon we'll have this ability for all emulators in the future.

Later,
~Rx

P.S..... I just got an IM from madmab with the remakes of Colecovision videos he didn't like and the one that wasn't created before. When I get a chance, I'll check the names, mark the list and pack them up for everyone. One more thing to look forward to cool.gif

That will be his first fully tweaked release, and I think you all will be really amazed by it. Glad we'll have all of the Xtras out and waiting now for the unveiling.
Mega Man (?)
Awesome with the Colecovision. Thanks madmab.

I fix the problem with the videos/roms with the solution I stated before.

All missing roms worked when I had this version of the rom : Poker II (Sachen) [U][!].unf, apposed to this : Poker II (Sachen) [!]

This was the case with all of them except weirdly the last: Tasac (Sachen) [!], where the opposite was the case huh.gif

All seven missing work! I still have to test the non-working ones but this leads me to believe that it will be good and that maybe these non-working games may play on mendafenx NES if I get the different versions wink.gif
Rocker1
Does anyone else experience a problem with prince of persia on winuaex_v17? Uaex_0.8.22 doesnt even load up properly, not even the boot disk it loads up and I get a scrambled screen every time.

After the start game screen it loads a pure red screen and stays there... Ive tested the rom in the windows version and it doesnt have the same problem.

Im having a problem loading Zelda OOT too with Surreal64xxx_B5... Infact from the ones Ive tried so far none of them seem to be working.

Is there anyone who uses alot of these emulators able to give me advice on which emus and settings to use to get a small list of games I have?

I will just PM a list of 5 roms from various formats and that person can tell me if theyve got them working and how if possible.

Thanks.
Mega Man (?)
I'm sure others here can give you a quicker more efficient answer, so I wont try, sorry tongue.gif
I have seen pretty recent topics that give you the specs on some of the stuff you need.

But you should re post this as it's own topic so that it gets more attention. cool.gif

I think it's OK if you just list those roms in your topic. That way anyone (who can) will help.
Rocker1
Ok thanks will do it tomorrow, I guess I was being lazy, its an effort this modding and emulator business but worth it when you get things running like you want them to.
Finker282
Hey Mega Man I just went through matching my good sets (v2.02 :-\) to your dats. I didn't realize it was v 2.04 till the very end. Oh well... still can't track down:
FUnaki Masakatsu Hybrid Wrestler
Laplace no Ma
Ryuukihei Dan Danzarubu
Sailor Moon
Shodai Nekketsu Kouha - Kunio-tachi no B
Super Fire Pro Wrestling

in english but I'll keep on the hunt.
Mega Man (?)
Good luck finding the extra translated SNES roms. They are kinda hard to get. Some of these were ones I hand patched from Rx's dat, to my dat. He actually had the roms but I didn't. I know even 2.04 didn't come with some good translates like the ones you listed (if not all). You will have to get them manually. These were the very few not in the goodset. The reason being is, I believe this last goodset (2.04) came out all the way back in 2004, Many translations have continued after that. Also, Rx's dat is built off older romsets, I guess they might have taken some of the translation out of the newer goodsets or they were just lost in time. huh.gif I wouldn't know why, but this might be the case.

I take it that the rest worked for you? If this is the case, that's awesome. biggrin.gif

Thanks for the feedback Finker282. cool.gif
ressurectionx
Yeah... some of those translations are brand spankin' new. They're not in the latest goodset if I remember correctly. You'll have to find them in a torrent somewhere or go to a romhacking site and patch the foreign roms manually.

This will likely be the case with many of the translations when they are available. The goodsets and no-intro sets don't usually contain them. When I was releasing some of these dats, I had actually found torrents that were only 3 days old that had collections of every translation that was complete or very near completion for about 10 systems. Pretty cool stuff.

Even if you can't find them, you're probably not really missing much. You got about 900+ other SNES games to go through, right? cool.gif

UPDATES: I have converted the PSX compatibility list to a Google spreadsheet. I will get it up on the main page of this thread when I have a chance. Looks like I've personally tested about 700 games and about 400 of them play well enough to warrant using if you like them. There's still about 600 more games to test, but I doubt I'll ever get to much more than about 200 of them. I hate sports games, particularly the mountains of junk that came out for PSX.

Until I get it up there with Gilles button for the PSX, here's the list: PSX

We'll still use the old PSX compatibility thread for new compatibility entries if people still do them, but I'll do all the updating here from now on.

~Rx

i can tell your from my experience i got all the PlayStation final fantasy's to work on ff9 on some over world places the character is white but i can deal with it just have them look at the final fantasy fix thread i have personally completed 7 8 9 playing the others right now I'm using v19 of the PlayStation emulator

hope this helps
ressurectionx
Hey nate,

Yeah... I saw the thread, but I've been on a compatibility kick so long I never bothered with it yet. I kinda got the hint that they all worked, but never put in the effort yet. Thanks for the tip though.

Now that I think about it though, I may have gotten Tactics to work but never remarked on it. Whenever I get around to it, I'll just upload the configs so nobody has to mess around with all the settings again.

I've gotten Tactics to work. It's one of the few PS gamse on my Son's xbox. There are probably 5 or so titles on there.
Mega Man (?)
Hey Rx

Here is a pack of psx cd pictures I put together. 214 PSX Pics I grabbed everything vgmuseum.com had, plus a bunch of good ones out of mobygames.com. They had 60 pages, totaling 1499 worth of listings for PSX. I know a lot of those listings don't have images, and its a crap load to go through. I picked up (what I think are) some essentials.

I know you will be busy for the holiday and so will I. So, just let me know and I'll get those last NES videos together.

I also talked to e51v50h about the genesis videos. He left me a very nice message concerning the project with his appreciation of my inquiry and urge to help. Unfortunately, he has some real life issues that are preventing him to work on it much. The good news is, he said he made about 20 videos already, so I would like to see him present those to us before I try to get into making them myself. (he wasn't sure off the top of his head exactly the ones he did.
ressurectionx
Hey man, thanks. I'll take a look at that when I get time. I'll be busy for the next few days, but I should have a day to work on things when I get back.

Post the vids when you get a chance. It shouldn't take me long to bundle them up and only a few hours to upload them.

Full NES vids for everyone soon! Thanks MM.

Bummer about e51v50h. I understand it though. This stuff is all pretty time consuming. Hopefully he comes back around at a better time. We'll have to sort through which ones he already did if he gets a chance to share them.

I saw your post in the other thread about rumbles. I believe it was Guybird that I read back in the day. He had a site and one thread there was an interesting tutorial on making rumbles. I never tried it, but it really was in depth and I believe it wouldn't have been too difficult to find out, if not time consuming.

Here's a thread that people posted about it:

RUMBLES

Maybe you should PM him and ask him about the tutorial.

Talk to ya later. Happy Thanksgiving everybody.

madmab
Slow week for me but...

Uggghh I just realized that atari800win only records sound in the left channel when there is one pokey and it is set to stereo.

On the other hand I think if I switch atarixlbox to default to stereo off that the volume may increase. I'll have to experiment with that.
ressurectionx
Don't know what you just said madmab, but I hope it works.

We'll have to go over the Colecovison movies before I add yours.... Probably on Saturday. Let me know which one is the good one, cause I think I got them mixed up now. The newer one I downloaded is smaller than the old one. The computer I'm using now doesn't even have 7 zip, so I'll have to wait till I get home to compare them. Just wanted to make sure the smaller one is the right one.

EVERYONE ELSE:

I just checked my Gmail account for the first time since opening it. I have quite a few requests to be added to the spreadsheet editing on there. I will not give access to anyone who messages me on Gmail that hasn't cleared it with me here first. All of those names are unfamiliar to me so I can't let it happen unless you give me your address in a PM here.

Sorry I have to block access, but somebody ruined free access for everyone when they vandalized the SNES spreadsheet Horscht and I were working on.
madmab
Believe it or not I think when I redid the movies some of them ended up smaller. laugh.gif

That's video compression for ya. Unpredictable. When going over them the only thing I noticed is I forgot to bump up the volum for q*bert so I'll have to resend it.

Good news for the atarixlbox movies. Seems both channels (left/right) seems to be intact on the older videos so I probably wont have to redo them. But stupid me I did erase a set I did last week thinking it was bad when it may have been ok. Grrrrr...
ressurectionx
Here's the Final Fantasy fix thread.

FF Fix

I'm going to work on it when I get a chance and I'll post the configs. I'll have to check with people to make sure they work fine for them then.

I've posted the PSX compatibility list on the main thread as well as the link to the Final Fantasy fix thread.

EDIT: When you get a chance MM, I'm around for the last of the videos. I'll try to get the NES extras out as soon as I can.

EDIT 2: Thanks a lot for those PSX CD scans MM. They're great quality. I'm going to look to see if I can find more, but you got a lot of them for me.

EDIT 3: I think I'll work on the artwork, testing and compatibility for those ADAM games madmab. I'll let you know what I do.

You had 83 videos in the old ADAM downoload, but there are only 81 in the new one. Is this okay?

Hey Rx, I had a change of plans and had some time to finish the NES Videos:Missing Unlicensed & Non -working NES Vids

They are: the 7 missing Unlicensed Vids
and 15 of the 20 Non-Working Vids. For 5, I couldn't find any good working roms. (you'll see on the list)

I also noticed that on your (NES) progress list it states: FOREIGN VIDEOS: 67 made, I believe there are a total of 68, (you probably just forgot to count the lone Russian video. cool.gif

Alright then... I think NES (video wise) is done!

Really busy the next few days, but I'll have it all up here by the end of the week hopefully. Nice job.

Well, I guess I made some stuff work for me when I made my dat file. laugh.gif All the SNES stuff works great from what I can tell.
There have been a few people that have spoken up and tried my dat with the Xtras, with no further queries.

I am interested myself to know, how many people are using and enjoying the Xtras? I know it must be more than the few people that have had some questions and responses. cool.gif
I guess just a lot of leacher pros jester.gif

Thanks Rx

Hey everybody,

Good to hear that things are working like they should now. Thanks to everyone who helped and gave input on it. Always feel free to comment on what's available and what you'd like to see in the future. It's finally starting to feel like this is all coming together.

I'm real excited now. I've spent about the last 4 hours putting together a few new things on my PC. Just upgraded to 2GB 3200 ram, and I have two new 1TB hard drives mirrored in RAID 3. (Never did any of that before, so I took my sweet ass time and made sure I got everything right without frying anything). I'm in the process of copying all my XBox stuff onto that drive and I'll sleep easier at night knowing that it's all mirrored perfectly. Ahhhhhhhhhhh..... it was expensive, but no more loss of data and work worries.

Check for the status of Xtras progress at the bottom of the post.

MM? ~ I've pretty much got everything working right now with NES. I'm just waiting for the Contra (Translated) video. Sorry to ask you after you already did the rest of them. I was just going to use the Contra (US) video for both, but I noticed too late that I already had the name slightly different between the two versions and changing it now would require us to re-do all of the datfiles. The good thing is now I have separate artwork for the Japanese version and we can have a video that highlights the story added to the Translated version that's not in the US game.

I looked through your new videos and they look great. It is apparent how much effort you put into them. Proud to have them on my XBox man.

----------------

Madmab ~ I also have the Colecovision pretty much primed and ready to go for the full Xtras release. Whenever you get the oppurtunity to figure out which homebrew is getting cut and which videos you still wanted to make before release let me know and I'll make the changes and anticipate your final ADAM videos.

I'm going to try out that new beta today and update you on the bugs. Thanks a bunch!

-----------------

Nate ~ Sorry man. I don't have any N64 datfiles now. I think the emulator comes with one, but I could be wrong about that. I haven't gone anywhere near testing N64 yet and I don't have any plans to in the near future. Something I hope to get to down the road if there's still some desire left in me to do it.

One tip though is to get the roms that have [!] in their name. That seems to work for me.

-----------------

Justgoonies ~ I've been waiting to unveil it until it's all done, but I'm looking foward to showing all this to my friends soon. Glad you're enjoying them and come back for more updates. A few big releases will be coming out shortly. Thanks for the feedback.

-----------------

ds_dude2008 ~ Yeah... definately the wrong place to talk about this, sorry man. I don't even know anything about chips because I've softmodded all my XBoxes. Plus I've never gotten my cheats to work at all anyways.

Next time try using a few periods man. That paragraph is completely unreadable. If you want somebody to take time out of their day to give you instructions or show you where you can get help, you need to at least take time out of your day to write something that is comprehensible.

Ask in the regular forum in a separate post, and when you do, mention specifically what problems you hare having, how far you are able to get... stuff like that. It's just a guessing game trying to help you out unless you provide detailed information about everything in a way that people can actually read it.

Good luck
