I am having a hell of time now with those 7800 vids. blink.gif games that (kinda) worked, now stopped working. I'll post my pathetic finish, tomorrow.

Rx, I don't know how many manuals total you have but, I thought I might post some good links I found for them.

Take your time. I can't get back to them until Sunday at the earliest anyhow. Did you ask madmab about it? He made some videos for 7800 already.

I'll check out those links. I have quite a few manuals now from emumovies and a few other spots. I probably won't be collecting anymore though, but it will be documented which ones I have if anyone wants to try to fill in the blanks down the road. I have a feeling that my testing/artwork collecting is nearing the end too. Just a few small emulators to go, some Commodore 64 stuff, and possibly the Intellivision after I complete the 5200/800 stuff.

I really want to get on the synopsis stuff when madmab gets the sort/filter stuff working, so I need to really wrap up my work on this other stuff so I can focus on that.

I tested and gathered artwork for about 350 games for the AtariXLBox this weekend and cleaned up my XBMC setup and emulators a bit.

Well.... back to work.

I guess replacement docs must be back up now. When I last went there they were under maintenance or something..

I can't access the Sharp X68000 compatibility list. Is it still available ? And do you have plans about this computer ?
ressurectionx
I just read over my last post and wanted to specifiy that I still have a lot of manuals for systems that haven't yet been released that I will be releasing in the future. Tons still left to do, I just don't think I'll be taking anymore additional stuff right now with everything on the plate already and summer coming up. These can always be added to in the future.

I just thought my last post sounded as if I was going somewhere, and I didn't want anyone to think I'm abandoning anything at this point. I'm just trying to focus my efforts on a smaller amount of things, since my past statements of doing a million things might have actually come true by now when you consider how many individual steps I've taken with every rom and file and folder to get everything matching perfectly, the synopsis work I've done so far and some other things.

Anyways.....

Sorry waal. I must not have turned on the access to that (among some of the other emulators I haven't looked at). Basically, it's just a short list of the games that are mentioned on the wikipedia entry for Sharp X68000 games, shortened to fit the 42 character limit that XBox requires. There's nothing else there at this point that you couldn't find on wikipedia. I'll get around to fixing that access problem with the other emus at some point, but just letting you know there's really nothing there to see now.

I don't have any plans to do anything with this emulator at this point myself. I'm more than happy to add anything that people come up with to the thread though if the effort is put fourth. I was a console kid in my day. The only computer games I played as a kid were at my cousin's house (apple IIe and the IBM).

There's just too much other stuff that I'm working on currently, and with the good weather coming up I can't see spending the next 3 months indoors configuring controls on a bunch of computer type emulators that used keyboards when there are a lot more productive things for me to be doing.

If you ever want to help out on that front, just let me know.

Rx, can I ask what is the situation with the master system xtras?

On page 1/post 9 it says that testing and artwork is complete, but datfiles haven't been created.

You don't seem to mention this system when talking about future plans, from recent posts unsure.gif

No worry. smile.gif

I was just curious about your list but I think mine should be more advanced.
I have selected around 650 disks from a very huge archive, mostly japanese. All games are in English and many are awesome arcade conversions (Dracula X, Strider, Marchen Maze...). So that I can provide dats, settings and most of the screenshots.

I think I'll have more spare time in two weeks. Time for real-life work now.
madmab
Any assistance on the computer based Emu's will be welcome. biggrin.gif

I should be able to cover the C64, Atarixlbox, Atari ST, Amiga, and MSX. But my time is kinda limited.

But the CPC, Apple, and 680000 definitely need a knowledgeable person. One disadvantage with the apple emu is alot of games are case sensitive on keyboard commands and I think the emulator defaults to lowercase.

SMS is definitely in the sights, bigby smile.gif

Anyone know a good PC SMS emulator? one that can record .avi??? unsure.gif I fear there isn't one out there.

"Fusion" "Logs .avi" but the files only come out with sound. (no video) I don't understand why. Any help?

Thanks
ressurectionx
Yep..... MM's right. I don't release anything until I'm sure it's worthy of release. Maybe I don't label things correctly in the progress post for people to read, but I do want to give a once over before I make a release. I've already found bugs in artwork packs for datfiles and artwork packs I've already released. Just saving everyone a double download.

Great to see we have some help on the X68 stuff. Thanks waal.

I do wanna upload these but im not sure how to im new to this game lol
Mega Man (?)
Wow stupot1,
Took that job right off of me. biggrin.gif

How many videos have you done? How long are they? Remember, they must be in .wmv format for this project.

Go to megaupload.com and simply submit your zipped or rar(ed) file of all your stuff. Then post the link they give you: here. smile.gif

stupot1
Hiya Mega Man,
All the games listed above smile.gif the video's are roughly 30sec - 1min long but ive already converted them all to xmv so im not sure if they are any help to you????

i would have left them in wmv but i wanted to check what they looked like on the xbox sorry matey
if you want me to upload them still then i will????
ressurectionx
Cool man. I'll have to check out those vids. Unfortunately, I can't upload them here since XMV tools use M$ code that is against the rules.

I will also have to check those against my list because some of them seem to me (in my hops and bong resin riddled mind) to be clones of games I already have included in the Xtras.

I am surprised that I missed Galaxian on the FDS though. I'm sure it's not much different than the Atari versions (how could it be), but I had that game for A5200 as a kid and always liked it.

Any chance you could fish those WMV files out of your recycle bin for upload?

~Rx
stupot1
Give me till tuesday & i will sort the WMV's out for all the games on the list smile.gif

I had a Atari 800XL what a great machine that was smile.gif im very much looking forward to seeing that when it's finished but what's happening with the C64 stuff is it getting the duel previews too???? im a great fan of the old 8-bit & 16bit machines i had a amiga too im a bit of a commodore fan lol
ressurectionx
I didn't have the 800 myself, so I thought my work with the 5200 was about 95% done long before I even tackled the Genesis. Boy, was I wrong.

I actually won't be adding every English language game ever made for it to the Xtras like I have, or have at least tried to do, with all previous emulators. There will be anywhere from 400-600 800 XEG and Disk games that will be included in the Artwork/Datfile portion of the Xtras along with the 5200 games. Even though there will be 100% videos for the 5200 and the A800 conversions to 5200, I don't know how many volunteers I'd ever get on those games, so I can't make any promises about having a complete video set.

This was basically a very large "Best Of" list that was put together mostly by madmab. Perhaps there are games you would like to see added that aren't. You can always check my 5200 spreadsheet and see if there are more games you would like to see added Crash. I'm going to do that myself at some point before release as well. I'm through the letter B now. Not too many I've added actually, but you would probably know much better than me since this is out of my realm of previous experience.

Did the 800 controllers suck as bad as the 5200 ones did? Atari stopped making them at some point, and there was no such thing as eBay back then, so my old man had to buy two more systems at certain times just to get new joysticks which broke again long before we ever got Nintendo.

Man.... all those years I had to go home and play Atari after playing SMB over at my friends houses.

~Rx

PS... cool about the vids man. Hate it if you have to re-do them from scratch, but I just can't use them here with the rules.

stupot1
The controller's that come with the 400-800-XL was the standard 2600/VCS which was great but back then everything was thin plastic and the plastic stick always used to break lol
well being quite old now i was around when the VCS was but my first computer was a Atari 400 smile.gif so i could check though your list and give you some pointers on the european games you have missing if you dont mind????

I dont know much about the NES as i never owned one i think that was a lot bigger in america than europe i grew up owning most of the old 8bits such as a Spectrum,C64,Atari but then moved on to the Amiga until the SNES come out smile.gif so most games around that time i know quite a bit about
ressurectionx
Yeah... I think the 5200 was digital, and the either the joysticks themselves stopped working or the PAUSE, START, RESET buttons on the top would stop responding.

Great controllers for back then actually, when they worked. Much better than the boring 7800 controllers that came out years later when that cheap CEO Jack decided to screw every Atari fan out there with that piece of crap system (for the time) and pathetically yield to Nintendo's NES without even an attempt at a fight.

Atari never recovered from the illness that was Jack.

Don't mind whatever you've got to add. Just do me a favor and try to make sure that it isn't already included in the US set under a different name. I'm sure I have one or two doubles on other emulators here or there, but I'm real careful to remove any that I see.

If you've got any suggestions on SNES/Genesis/Gameboy, I'll put them on the to-do list.

~Rx
madmab
400-800-xl pretty much used the same controllers as the 2600 (digital 8-way stick, paddles). The 5200 used a non centering analog stick (it's biggest fault) and had issues where the buttons would eventually stop working.

Most games released in the UK as well as the US had the same name. Just usually the name it was published under would change. Which is a dead giveaway as far as figuring out where it was released. For example in the US it is "Synapse Software" whereas in the UK it would be "Synsoft".
stupot1
Hi All,
I've just had a look through your Atari 5200/800 comp list & your missing quite a few european games which didn't get released in america but you have a nice list of games for the Atari i would love to do some video's for that system is it going to have video previews when it's finished????? & i would love some pointers on what emulator to use for the previews

cheers everyone smile.gif
ressurectionx
Cool man. I would love to see some videos for the 800 done. I didn't think we'd get so many takers for that one. Feel free to let me know any games you want to add and make videos for too. I'll get the artwork for them for the pack too.

I don't know anything about making videos myself. PM madmab or Mega_Man_(?) for help in that area. Did you try the link to emulators that you can record with on your PC in my thread?

Looking forward to see what you do,
~Rx
madmab
Atari800winplus has a nice "record to video" function. Make sure you record to video "with sound". laugh.gif It's easy to accidently pick the wrong one. laugh.gif Unfortunately you have to record to "uncompressed avi" which equals about 1gig for every minute of recording. One big problem is if the movie exceeds 2 gig (2 minutes) then alot of times the video gets corrupted. So I try to limit record sessions to about 1min 40secs.

After that I use some other program to edit and compress the .avi a bit more. Usually I use pinnacle studio. But for some reason it does not like the .avi format produced by atari800winplus so I have been using ulead studio. I convert to divx format avi. Nerovision will work as well but it seems to hang when trying to position within the video.

Typically what I do is this. I do a quick play session to "re-familiarize" myself with the game and get an idea of what I want to record. If the game has an interesting intro or title screen (aka music). There are two things you can do. You can record the intro seperately (to give more time to record the game play). Or you can record them in one video. I try to make the gameplay part about 40-60 secs. If adding the intro exceeds that, no biggy. What I do then is load this stuff into a video editor. I try to keep the gameplay first, and then if there is a good intro I push that to the end. I also edit out any extrenuous stuff to try to get the video time down. The idea being the user will see the game in action. If they leave the cursor there then they also get to hear/see the cool intro.

You can use the F9 key to pause video recording. Sometimes I'll "F9 pause, press F5 (reboot)" and then start the recording (F9 again to unpause). That way nothing is missed at the beginning. Only other thing is atari800winplus leaves that stupid "Press F9 to continue emulation" message in the recorded video. laugh.gif

Also if you wish you can use MESS as well for recording video, although it is a little more difficult. But it does produce .avi video that Pinnacle won't complain about. It has the same 2 minute limitation.

As for my list being a "best of". That's kinda partially true. I started off with the "Cartridge" stuff because I knew that the average user would be most likely to pick those up first (Goodsets, No-Intro, Tosec). Alot of the cart titles are garbage (except 5200). But there are a handful of goodies in there. The good stuff starts when we get into the disk and cassette stuff. biggrin.gif Although the list is a tad incomplete for varying reasons. I was gonna add a few titles once I went thru the ones I already had.

Hey Ressx. I've been meaning to ask. How did those WHDload files I sent you work out?
ressurectionx
Haven't gotten them to work right yet madmab. When I select them, it pauses at a black screen for a few seconds and then it has an Amiga "check" mark taking up the screen with a purple background. That's as far as I can get them to go. Any tips?
stupot1
Hi All,
Wow that sounds like a bit of a mission with the atari video's i will have to clean some space off my hard drives for them lol smile.gif

anyways here is a link for those 38 NES video's i done a day early im good lol smile.gif

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=9BMQ2HEB

there all in WMV format like you asked so check them out see what you think????

by the way the last post by madmab said something about WHDload stuff your not trying to run them on the xbox are you???? they are a pain to get working & when they do work there not very good you have to mess around a lot with the config's much better keeping with the ADF's on the xbox unless your using a proper Amiga
madmab
RessX are you using the configs I sent you?

Even if you are... press X (to config the game). Make sure Disk1-4 are blank. Check in "Configure Hard Drives" and make sure that "Hard Drive 1" is pointing to the .hdf file. Point it there just in case. Kickstart should be 3.1(A1200). Cpu 68020, speed- max, compatible- no, cycle exact- no. Video Chipset AGA, Vid- PAL 60hz, Chipmem- 2MB, Fastmem- 4MB, Clip Excess Borders - Yes.

Stupot1..

The WHDload stuff I sent RessX works just fine on the xbox. It's just probably not pointing to the correct file. Most likely because his Amiga Emulator and diskfiles are located in a different area. But when set correctly they actually work rather well. I've done a bunch up to the letter K and have had very little issues in getting them to work. Sure beats disk swapping. Plus the manuals are handy to have there.

Anyways keep us up to date on the Atari stuff. If you have trouble converting the uncompressed AVI's maybe you can just up them to megaupload and I can do the rest if need be.. smile.gif
stupot1
Hi madmab,
How far have you got with the videos for the Atari as i don't want to end up doing the games you have already done if you want me to start doing the 800 stuff thats no worries it looks like you have been concentrating mainly on the 5200 stuff is that correct????
ressurectionx
Hey madmab,

I'll try out those settings. I put your stuff in the same folders I put the Amigasys stuff and thought I did it exactly the same way. It just gets frozen at that screen for now.

You mind giving stupot1 a short list of vids of things that he can do now? I will get around to adding your new videos to the list, but I'm pretty busy the rest of the day so it probably won't be until tomorrow when we know exactly where we are with the vids.

Im very stressed grr.gif at the moment i can't get the Atari800winplus to run on my laptop i keep getting errors i think with the osroms i cant seem to find any that work if i can't get any soon im gonna give up muhaha.gif

I really wanted to do some vids for that too
ressurectionx
Bummer you don't have a DVR or there isn't a better way to make those videos with an emulator.

1GB a piece is probably pretty system intensive.

Hope you figure it out.

If you'd like to help MM? with the Gameboy videos, there are plenty of those to do as well cool.gif

~Rx
ressurectionx
Hey everybody,

I got a lot further on the 5200/800 Atari stuff this weekend. Pretty much all 5200, 800 to 5200 conversions, and 800 Carts and Tapes have been tested and have artwork created for them. madmab also added to the videos already, so in addition to the 65+ 5200 videos, and whatever videos we have for the unlicensed and converted roms, we now also have over 100 A800 Cart videos too.

I also believe I have every A800 cart title that wasn't a BS clone included in the set. I also left out the subliminal hypnosis cartridges (seriously), because you need a separate piece of hardware for them. The titles for those were pretty funny. I wonder if it really helped people stop drinking and get over their ED lol......

In other news, I've also got a hold of about 200 Genesis manuals. That's the biggest collection I could find. Other than that, there really aren't any good manual collections for any systems I haven't posted manuals for yet. If you know of any that I don't have up there yet, let me know. If you find any individual manuals for games that I haven't included, send them to me and I'll get them integrated into the sets.

I don't think they have much over there anymore. sleep.gif
but those site links I posted have a bunch (I think)

madmab
Well it was downloadable at one point, that is why I asked.
ressurectionx
I never heard of it before. Pretty much any video game site I've found was because people here tell me about them. Even though I've been rom collecting since Nesticle came out, most of my non-rom stuff was from torrents in the last few years, and (as we've seen with the NES artwork and SNES manuals) I didn't always have the best option out there when I started my work.

At this point, I'm really only interested in full (or very sizable) collections.

Maybe when some of the other features we've talked about come to light and I can see the fruits of my efforts I will put out more energy on side stuff like the manuals, but right now anything I have done is just in preparation for the future. It's just way too much hassle hunting these things down one at a time. I really can't believe how many hours I've spent in the last few years of my 20's grabbing artwork one at a time from gamefaqs and other various sites. I just can't do that for the manuals.

If when we're all done with our respective work somebody were to really release great manual packs that contain stuff we're still missing, I'd be happy to add them.

Later guys,
~Rx
crash1235
There are 152 here. I just found it they are in PDF format.
ressurectionx
UPDATES: Pretty much finished with all Atari 5200 carts and Atari 800 carts. There were about 300-400 missing tapes from my collection, so I've been working on getting them and the artwork folders named correctly. I haven't done any work on the testing of the missing tapes yet. Any tapes that I already have as 5200 games or 800 cartridges will not be added.

If anyone would like to add games to the list after I'm done, feel free. I really think that I should have the majority of any worth playing when this is done though (besides the disks that I won't test until the auto-config stuff works).

~Rx
madmab
Well I'm kinda waiting on stupot1 for some more titles. But other than 1 or 2 extras I might add it is fairly complete. I'll be sending you a "config" file that should help with some of the configuration problems you are having. It isn't 100% correct but it'll be good enough to get you going.
stupot1
I'm sorry madmab i've been a bit busy i will get around to doing them when i have a chance so if you want to go ahead then do so i can add at a later date smile.gif. i'm also helping mega man with some gameboy vid's too when i get a chance
madmab
Well go ahead and add to the list (or give us a list) of the ones you had in mind. If I have time to get to them before you do, I will. For now I'm still working thru the disk and tape videos for the current list.
nate1579
hey rx do you ever plan on making your n64 compatibility list for surreal with settings we need a new list i think the one one on here i can find is kinda dated it would be nice with that new Surreal64 Xxx B5 - Command Line Patch

if you want to know what i am doing with most of the xtras is setting up xboxs for my family i married into a big family just want to make it simple as possible and them choosing setting in surreal i could just imagine all the calls i would get

well tell me what you think
ressurectionx
Hey Nate,

I don't think I'll be doing much with N64. I think when I first made the compatibility thread, I was planning on one day doing a bit more with it, but there won't be too many more emulators I get into that I haven't started. I still want to do some more stuff with MAME too when I get done with this stuff, and with the synopsis and other stuff we've started doing on the emulators that I wasn't expecting we'd get into there's just way too much on the plate now.

N64 is about as big a testing project as we got here, and the compatibility is just overall pretty bad on it. How many years was that thread up, and how many people were working on it? Same with PSX, so I think I'm pretty much done with that one too. I would like to see some PSX videos for the best 50-100 games that work well on it though before this is done. With the N64, I'm just pretty happy with the fact that I can play Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, and that Goldeneye is about 90%.

Truth be told, I'm turning 30 in August, and I've burnt up a greater part of the last half of my 20's doing this. Not looking forward to burning the first half of my 30s on this too. In the last 2 years I've developed a little drinking issue that I'm not blaming on this project, but it's just easy for me to do when I justify not doing real-world productive stuff and sitting around all day on my free time doing this. (I'd been doing this stuff about 3 years before going public, which is why so much seemed to get done in such a short amount of time).

Not to mention the 20 lbs that I have to lose again.... I lost it last summer, but stopped around the time this went public and put it all back on. cool.gif

I would suggest just putting a very limited amount of working N64 games on there and hopefully the command line patch makes it easy for choosing them without making your family have to call you or read a compatibility list. In my opinion, there weren't a ton of great games for the system, but there are a few gems that should be added. The ones I mentioned above, and Wave Race come to mind.

Take it easy,
~Rx

Hey madmab,

Great to hear you're working on the 800 video stuff. It's hard enough getting help for MM? on the Gameboy & TG-16 stuff. I'm sure those 800 vids wouldn't get done if you weren't taking care of it.

Hey madmab,

Great to hear you're working on the 800 video stuff. It's hard enough getting help for MM? on the Gameboy & TG-16 stuff. I'm sure those 800 vids wouldn't get done if you weren't taking care of it.

sorry man wow

truth be told im only 20 3 kids

2 step one my own and another on the way

I understand what your saying i like the same games plus the Zelda which i don't think they work i maybe wrong

i took on a huge responsibility at 18 2 kids then at 19 another one my own and going to college and working that's why my time is limited to like 30 mins a day or so most of the time well sorry if it was a bother asking that question a lot of my family just said all the Nintendo systems

Nah man... don't be sorry. We all get old and some of us do stupid shit. It's not as if I didn't have a drinking problem years ago, I just didn't start up again until about 2 years ago and I'm doing it almost everyday again. I'll get back on the wagon, it's just (and here's where the justification comes in), there's no way I could do all of this stuff if I wasn't getting toasted while doing it. It's more mind numbing than the beer.

My commitment is to stupid things like this, and yours is real commitment. Your job is going to be a lot rougher than anything I've done here, and you got at least another 18 years to look forward too. The potential benefits to it far outweigh anything I could accomplish here though.

I tip my hat to you and I wish you luck.

On another note, I think you're right that the Zelda games don't work right. Even if they did, the XBox controller is so much different that it wouldn't "feel" right anyhow. I remember getting one of the N64 Zeldas working on my PC about 5 years ago and it sucked because it mapped so crappy to the controller. I wouldn't even worry about them unless you're handy with hardware and can convert a few N64 controllers for use with the Box.

Other than that, only a few titles are really worth having on that system anyways, and who knows....? If your family has a special request or two, you may be able to get them up and running too.

I think with the zelda games you have to change the audio plugin that is used to get them to work properly.

"Properly" in this usage is an example of the relative meaning of the term.

Just ask the guy who mindlessly keeps trying to press the missing Z button to target enemies. cool.gif
