Mike Tyson's Intergalactic Power Punch! for NES has been released just a few days ago.

Did you ever get those whd files working? I was just thinking of a quick way to get them going (in theory should work).

Select one of the games (anyone) with A, and then exit.

Go to one of the other games (erase the configuration "black") and then load it (press B to exit configuration). It should work now.

Go into the other games (assuming it worked) and remove their configurations the same as you did before.

I'm thinking this should reset the filename of the .hdf file which I'm guessing is storing the path from my configuration.

I just finally did this madmab and it worked like a charm. Pretty cool playing these games again after all these years. Too bad the screen goes all apeshit when you leave one area and go to the next on Kings Quest VI. You wouldn't know any way of tweaking this so it runs better, would you?

Big thumbs up to the WHD files separated for each game. Once you know how to actually start the games it works pretty cool.

Yeah I've been having a bit of fun with the WHD stuff lately. It's something that is fairly easy to work on in small spurts. I might eventually set them up like killergorilla where the autolaunch. But I kinda like having access to documentation, maps, etc.

If you didn't know. Hold down the fast forward to skip past the whdload load screen.

As for the blinking it only seems to happen with CD32 games from what I can see. I'm not sure exactly why. I have noticed, though, that the "clip borders" option can cause issues with the skin (memory or writing to wrong memory?). So I'm gonna have to switch this sucker into debug mode and see. I already changed some of that "clip border" code to not allow the screen size to go under 320x400.
ressurectionx
Wow..... I'm shocked.

I just got King's Quest VI working (what seems to be) perfectly on DosXBox. Not the crappy disk version either. I'm talking full-fledged CD with music and voice.

That emu is a lot more impressive than I gave it credit for.

Really?? Coool. What'd you do? Image the disc and copy it over or just slap it into the DVD tray?

I'll have to try that I think I have an original laying around somewhere. laugh.gif

LOL.... yup... stupot got it all done. I forgot about that. (TOOO MUCH GOING ON.... MIND... LOSING... TOUCH........... jester.gif )

I kinda just press a whole bunch of things madmab and get the DOS games to work. One tip I can say is that you need to run the setup or sound files on games first before playing the main executable (which is often a guessing game in itself)

I couldn't give you exact instructions, but i had an iso I loaded as a disk image, from there I installed the "Large" install (about 16 additional MB) and then I ran the executable that was created in the default location. The sound didn't work, so I had to go back into the install/setup (you could probably use the iso again, but the install made a file called "install.exe or bat or whatever").

Once the sound settings were done it was up and running beautifully. Some of the graphics stutter in the FMV sequences, but the game plays perfect and there is no stuttering in the music or voices.

Man I loved that game when I was a kid.

Well, that settles that, then. biggrin.gif Thanks stupot1, I didn't get to this yet anyway.
SMS/Sg-1000 vids almost done.

Hey bigby,
how you doing on those GG vids?

ressurectionx
Nice work guys. I'd LOVE to get that emu wrapped up and shipped out.

We're also VERY close to a complete TG-16 set thanks to PCE... (He even added a few games himself, and I'm hoping that's the end of games I missed for that system, but I'm sure something new will come up...... it always does)

May could be a very big month for Xtras releases. cool.gif

Now.... if we could only knock those 600 Gameboy videos down. Here's hoping our new friends stick around for that. 150 or so videos a piece seems a lot more doable than the daunting task of 600 alone.

From there, it's only the Atari 800 videos if anybody is even interested in doing them, and maybe a few small rom collections like the Odyssey II, Sega VMU and the handful of games that are going to make the cut for the X68000 and DOSBox and we really may be looking at the end of the video creation journey.

I wonder what the tally for the video count is now? I'm sure it's got to be nearly 5000 videos or more at this point.

Except for my brother, nobody I know has seen any of our work. I've been keeping it to myself for now and I'm looking forward to buying a Box and hard drive and making a Box for my good friends and some of my family. I've already got 5 other boxes just waiting for this work to be complete for that task.

Thanks guys... I'd be doing this until I was 40 if I was doing it alone. I'm really glad I brought my work public. This is exactly the reason why I did it, and although I get a little disheartened that we haven't gotten more people to help along the way, it's really cool the hard work and dedication that a few have really brought to this project.

Nice work PCE. I'll do what I can to get these all released. I will still have to go through all the artwork and make sure the vids and art work with all the games before releasing it. Hey pCe,

Thanks for the vids and the name fixes. Everything is adjusted according to the spreadsheets you've been providing. I'm wrapping up artwork and making sure everything is tight on my end. I'll romzip and torrentzip the set too before creating new datfiles. Looking forward to what else you have to offer on this system before we put out a release.

Do you have any Japan boxart? Seems pretty hard to get for this system.

Nevermind. I think I found a good place. I may be missing a few of them when all is said and done though.

EDIT: Would you mind making a video for John Madden Duo CD Football too? The one I have is crappy and bounces all over the place. I'm not sure why it's so bad since the game play is fine when you use the FMV hack.

EDIT2: Which CD games were you going to make videos for that aren't already on my lists?

And here's the Game Gear vids - http://www.megaupload.com/?d=7LXMJ0D3

These vids are all 160 x 144. I've kept my original edits, if higher quality is needed. smile.gif

MM - I'll check out those games you mentioned.

ressurectionx
Is that the standard size we were using bigby?
ThE MaSTeR 3
How program do you recommend for converting wmv to xmv?
bigby
Huh?

What do you mean "standard size" Rx?

I used 160 x 144 based on MM's guide stating that the native resolution of the Game Gear was 160 x 144.

I can easily batch encode to a higher res if needed.
ressurectionx
I'll check them out. I don't know about that stuff. I'm just thinking that we want them looking good so just want to make sure they're a large enough size. 88mb just seemed to be a little small until I relized there weren't a ton of Game Gear games that still needed videos.

I'm sure they're okay. I'll let you know.

Thanks man,
~Rx
Mega Man (?)
I just checked out your vids bigby.
It looks like you did everything right. (in my opinion) Nice work. smile.gif

There is no standard resolution. It is cool that you kept your original just in case. Since GG has a native resolution of 160 x 144. I guess you could compensate by doubling that. It is hard with the "hand held's" in this because they were meant to be viewed and played on a very small screen.

Depending on your TV you won't be viewing vids that much larger anyway, but you could probably get away with upping the quality, since they look pretty good even in compressed 160 x 144 and don't take up that much room thus far. cool.gif

What does pCe think?

Like in fusion, it captured my SG-1000 games a 640 x 480.So I just cropped and had to do a double edit to compensate.

ressurectionx
Nah... I think bigby's stuff is just fine.

I have a ton of work to do before I get the SMS/GG stuff out. I didn't realize how far behind I was on that one. From the looks of pCe's spreadsheet, we have a lot more CD videos and artwork that need to be added that I was unaware of to the TG16 as well (why he said it was a project all in itself). Don't worry about the CD artwork pCe. I've got that covered.

Later,

MM, my original edits that I have kept are 320 x 240, so that's the best I could batch encode them at.

Glad you're enjoying the work bro. That info is in there though. I know the top thread is a lot to read through, but that's because I put as much info as possible so people don't have to ask questions.

Aren't you the guy with the first post on the thread telling me I don't explain things very well? laugh.gif

EDIT: Hey megaman. Good idea. I'll test out the roms unzipped. I don't imagine it would save much time since the games are really small, but who knows how long that takes loading a game? Games load up pretty quickly within the emulator though, so it's probably very minimal. I think it's just the emu stuff loading up. madmab doesn't think he'll be able to do anything else himself to minimize the loading time from 8 seconds. It's still MUCH better than 14.5 seconds.
ThE MaSTeR 3
lol I knew this was going to be an epic thread so I wanted to get the first post in. All this time and I still cant get romcenter to rename my goodsets properly.

"That info is in there though. I know the top thread is a lot to read through, but that's because I put as much info as possible so people don't have to ask questions."

Actually it says nothing about converting wmvs to xmv. Only about avi to wmv and how to properly record the previews. If I didnt already convert videos for snes last year I would have never found the encoding tools. xmvtool and run.bat should be inlcuded with the wmv packages.

I don't really have a tutorial for this I guess. I've seen some great information you've posted for this in the other thread. It doesn't really belong with any of the other tutorials, so I've opened a new one for you titled "Converting WMVs to XMVs". Check your email....

Let me know when that's done and I'll get it up on the main thread. We need to pacify the petulant element that never fails to make it's way around these parts every once in a while. cool.gif

And yes, we can't host that XMV tool here. I found that out the hard way. I wasn't aware when I first started this thread and put it up here that it was made with prohibited code...

------------------------------------

Bigby,

Thanks again for all your hard work. I'll integrate those new videos you put up. Before I go to all the work of integrating all these larger videos, have you noticed a difference in quality between the smaller and larger GG sets you posted?

Also, would one of you guys make a video for SMS "Walter Payton Football"? I had one with that name, but when I was scrolling through games to make sure the vids worked it seems it's just a garbage video that flashes red and black.

There may be several others that need a video as well. I'll keep this thread updated with my findings. Any games for these systems (SMS/GG/SG-1000/TG16/TGCD) that I'm missing? Let me know before the release is out.

It is in the licensed list #480. and in me dat.

name "Power Punch II"
description "Power Punch II"
rom ( name "Power Punch II.nes" size 393232 crc b4402fe5 )

I think it is the same game.
I'll make that xmv tutorial very soon. (it's not big)

Before I go to all the work of integrating all these larger videos, have you noticed a difference in quality between the smaller and larger GG sets you posted?

I'd say so. It is not a huge difference, but well worth the extra 30mb the new pack is. Thanks bigby.
Rx, he also re-cropped 3 of the vids that needed it, so don't forget to use those. (you'll see which ones) I just want to note that because, he included both cropped and not cropped for those 3, in the pack. smile.gif

EDIT: Hey Rx,
I see there are games on the list that are blue and have no video, also SG-othello. I guess you'll confirm and post the missing ones when you get a chance.

Ah.... sure enough, it is there. Everyone was calling it "Mike Tyson's Power Punch II" before so I didn't find it in the "M's" and a search for "Mike" came up empty in Windows.

All that ado about old news.... lol. You test the thousands of games that I've tested and you don't even remember what you've worked on anymore. I'd be so lost if I didn't have my documentation....

Sure... whenever.

Yep.... shouldn't be too many. I am assuming that most of those even will be cut since they look like foreign names. (I told you I still had a lot more work on this than I had thought.... Where the hell did these things come from and why are they in my licensed US roms folder?????)

Anyways.... Definately need a vid for Othello and for the SMS Walter Payton Football I mentioned earlier. I'll update this thread with whatever others we need.

Later,

Hey,
is it possible to (significantly) reduce loading times by having all your roms unzipped in this case?
I think my snes dat may be the only one that won't have matched files after they un-zip. sleep.gif

Back to this...

I tried it on NES and there is no difference. I didn't think there really would be. There may be difference in some larger games on larger systems, like one of the 32MB Harry Potter games for the GBA, but for small files like this any difference is negligible. (Those 32MB games freeze the Box if their zipped anyways, so they're already unzipped in the set).

When the time comes, I will see what happens if we have the larger games unzipped. I'm really just messing around with this .CUT stuff right now since there is more "real" work to do on the Xtras at the moment.

EDIT2: Good news....

We only need 4 videos for SMS/GG unless you guys have more games to add.

SG - Othello
SMS - Walter Payton Football
SMS - Alex Kidd - BMX Trial
SMS - Sonic's Edusoft

Those last two are non-working games right now, but you know I like to have them in case of updates if possible.

EDIT3: Got about 1/2 the artwork for SMS/GG checked. Most of it was done already, so it's just a matter of filling in the blanks. I'm going to have to see if I can find SG-1000 Boxart.

Mega Man (?)
I'll help you find box art and cart art for sg-1000, Rx cool.gif There isn't much, even if we double each others work a bit. I can also crop and edit images that need it.

Hey bigby,
You think you could do those last 4 vids. I already know 2 of them aren't working in fusion. sleep.gif

Thanks

Mega Man (?)
I take it back, Rx tongue.gif
Most stuff is over at Gamefaqs. I will send you a small cart scan pack. Happy, plucking laugh.gif

Lets talk NES dat, when you get a chance. I want to move that power punch 2 game over to the prototypes or unlicensed section. (I guess we won't change the name to have Mike Tyson in it, eh?)

Before adding any on the "suggested fixes" list to my dat. I what to know if you have that all in your newest dat?

To update my dat I will have to:
  1. Alter the names of the Indiana Jones game and SMB 1 name, like you recently did. (any others?)
  2. Add the games on the "suggested fixes" last. I am not sure what the colors mean anymore (for some) because you moved them around and changed the category's after you fixed them for yourself.
I guess we gotta add that new "all new? punch-out" game to the homebrew section/list, also. (making a vid and art for it of course.)

EDIT

Oops.... sorry I didn't post here earlier. I already have 100% of the available artwork for the SMS/GG now. I'll be making an upload for it as soon as I verify everything and get the dats going.

I will respond to the rest of your post after I check your PM(s).

To be continued....

EDIT: To tell you the truth... I don't know what little changes I've made here and there on romnames since the last dats went out. Seems like you're on top of that more than me... cool.gif

I'm not overly concerned about the romnames or the placement in the dats anymore as hopefully in the future the synopsis headline info coupled with a sort/filter function in the emus (and hopefully one day XBMC) would take care of both of those problems. My only real concern at this point is that we find a way for those damned "&" signs to work, or we've got a lot more renaming to do.....
