Well i just traded away my old case to a friend of mine cause i thought it looked like Sh!T. So, now I have a fresh white xbox smile.gif. Im going to be painting the case and the faceplate a very bright blue, and leaving the power button, memory door a and b, the sync button, and the usb door white. I already have the blue RoL on my xbox, so thats covered. What i do want to ask is, will wiring leds in the hdd and making a window get me banned from XBL? I still want to be able to play, and im not worried about the window, just the leds in the HDD. My other question is, can you wire leds IN your 360 without getting banned from XBL? I bought this aurora light kit shit but its pissing me off so im getting rid of it. I will post pics as i go along with this project. The reason i asked all this is because ive read that microsoft can read the voltage going in and out of your 360, which obviously leds will change. Any answers to my multiple questions and all feedback will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Xbox-Scene. smile.gif

how would adding lights to your 360 get you banned from live? you don't get banned from changing the hardware of the 360. loads of peolpe on here (including myself) have added leds to both the console and hard drive without any problems. hope this answers your question.
nos33
there have been people that have been banned for doing the 12v fan mod so I can understand how you would be skerd. The only hardware mod that can get you banned is the 12v fan mod. All LED's and cathodes are okay

Well I also heard that any soldering to the motherboard can get you banned from live, which includes leds and cathodes... So im not sure about anything now really. I need to find a page that says what can get me banned and what cant from XBL.
soulcracka
THE ONLY MOD THAT CAN GET YOU BANNED FROM XBL IS FLASHING YOUR DRIVE. M$ CANNOT DETECT WHETHER YOU HAVE A WIRE SOLDERED TO YOUR MOBO OR IF YOUR FAN IS RUNNING AT 12V CONSTANT. IF THAT WAS THE CASE I WOULD HAVE BEEN BANNED MONTHS AGO. DON'T BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU HERE.
josiah1992
well i have been useing leds without a problem. if you are that scared about putting leds then simply dont put them in.
Retman
ffs do people STILL belive you get banned for having stuff soldering your 360?

Idiots.

I believe that the people getting banned for fan/led mods, are the ones who overload the powersupply line that the DVD is connected to or acutally tapping into DVD supply line. So one fan and a dozen LEDs are probably not going to get you banned, half a dozen fans and a hundred or so LEDs = Ban

A good way to make sure that are not overloading is to measure the Voltage line that you solder to, and if that changes (goes down) you are in danger of being banned.

No one but M$ knows for sure if certain mods will get you banned. Definately avoid tapping into DVD supply (+5V) cuz there is proof of that causing a ban. Otherwize just use good judgement, if you have a lot of crap starting to build up, look into using a different isolated powersupply cuz that will definately save you from a ban.
Ktmrida4lyfe
Well im still not sure, I dont want to risk losing my whole 360 (basically all i play IS live) unless im positive that i cant get banned from XBL for it. I will be painting my 360 today and tomorrow, so i will take pics as i go along.

You have been lied to, you can't get banned for installing things in your 360 (leds, fans etc)

christ almighty. Do we have you spell it out for you?

You. Do. Not. Get. Banned. For. Installing. Things. In. Your. 360. Microsoft. Can. Not. Detect. Anything. That. Is. Installed. In. Your. 360

Do you understand now?!!?!

Sorry for my earlier post there was and error in it about tapping DVD power for mods had proof of a ban. It has proof of killing DVD drives not bans.

As for the bold statements of no way to get banned from power mods, I don't buy it.
http://www.acidmods.com/forum/index.php?topic=18099.0

Until someone can prove that there cant be bans from power robbing hacks by performing a load test over many hours playing on live from all 3 power sources, these bold statements must cease.

I may be way off with this, but to my knowledge from the miniscule amount I have read on this topic, no one has proven it either way. So to lean towards the side of saftey is not a flamable offense. cool.gif

Well, from what ive read no one seems to have gotten banned from XBL for having the leds in HDD. If someone could clarify that would be great. But i do believe you can get banned from tapping into power from the fans or the DVD drive, so is there way / place in the box i can mount a battery back to power the leds?
Salincer
I also hear that the 360 is designed so that the CPU inside physically breaks if you open it up. So be-warez....

- ben heckmen i believe

dont think you want to mount a battery pack in the box, that would be lame to change batteries.

Also in my first post, I said that a fan and a half dozen leds probably won't get you banned. In fact I have personally used a 12V fan on my first box for almost a half a year without getting a ban. So I would suggest following one of the many power source tutorials and installing your heart out with leds.

Google led resistor calculator and fill out the fields with what you have for source voltage and LED forward voltage

If you were to do something elaborate like a couple Fans and a couple LEDs I would use an external 12V wall supply and buy a 12V relay at Rat Shack. Then use the Switched 12V from the 360 to activate the relay when the machine is on, thus turning on all your crazy modding stuff with the 12V from the wall wart.

The point I was making earlier is that it would be easy enough for M$ to detect a major power draw from the supply. Chances are a couple of watts will not be detected. wink.gif

Well i guess ill give the hdd leds a shot and see how it goes.. if your console gets banned from XBL, is it just your console or your IP? And if its just your console why cant you just buy a new board and dvd drive combo from somewhere?
PilknDunn
It just bans the console itself, not your gamertag, i think.. Don't quote me on that tho lol...

like PilknDunn said, MS only ban the board and not your gamertag. yeah you could go out and get a new board and dvd drive combo, they shouldnt be that hard to find especially in the BST section.

Okay guys its been a while and im kinda busy with school starting and all but heres an update with a few pics... So far ive painted one side of the case, my hard drive, the faceplate, and the 2 pieces that go onto the bottom and top of the xbox.

Im not really sure what to do about the hdd window, i was going to make a flush fit as seen in the tutorial here but ive tried 3 times and failed 3 times... so i dont know what to do about that... i will be putting 6 white leds in it though with a frosted window. I need some help with this, and does anyone have any good ideas for a window to go in the side of the case?
Ktmrida4lyfe
Anyone?
Retman
you are a idiot if you think you'll get banned for installing a few leds. Microsoft has no way of detecting if you are stealing power off the 360.

I have my two back fans running off 12v for about 1 month and i haven't got banned, care to explain that? and my friend runs leds off the 12v power source as the psu part of the 360, he hasn't been banned.

Something tells me you weren't hugged enough as a child. This has already been addressed in depth here, and even I have stated that fans running off 12V probably won't get you banned. So unless you have any relavant info to bring to the thread, quit beating a dead horse.

Ktmrida4lyfe: I posted a window idea for you in your acidmod thread that I think would very cool. For anyone that is interested, it is along these lines:

Ya, i doubt im gonna go for that, id probably screw some srs shit up and itd take alot of money and time, it would be cool, but SHIT. Also chadives do you know how to make a window in the HDD and flush fit it with plexiglass? If so ill pay you if youll do one for me.

laugh.gif wish I had time to mod more, truth is I lurk around here when I get burned out at work designing circuits and making pcbs(so like 10 times a day LOL). I do a lot of product developement and manufacturing as well, so this stuff is pretty interesting to me.

Here are some threads to read on the topic:

If you are willing to pay, then go to installer section(prob where your installer advert is)
I saw Grim187 does windows, and so does Got Maxx 21.....saw them through search so not sure if these guys are still modding.

Personally would cut window and plexi on CNC mill, but probably above and beyond what you need. Also saw some mention of using acrylic and pouring you own window in the case. that would be cool.

Good luck and keep posting your proj pics as it develops cool.gif

Well I tried doing the flush fit window, and failed 2 more times and I screwed up top of my hard drive a little around the cut... I think my problem is my cut is too rounded, meaning its more complicated... I think im gonna do another cut today the same exact shape and size as that guy in the tut, cause thats ALOT easier i think... ill post pics on my way to perfection (hopefully)
Ktmrida4lyfe
Well DAMN its been a while since pics.. ive decided to go with a halo themed box.. so i did a halo 3 logo cut biggrin.gif Heres a pic.. sorry for shitty quality, its a phone tongue.gif Will take better pics tomorrow

Im still working on the rest of the box... but ive done the cut, ive done the face plate, i did the bottom of the case, and im still trying to think of what to do about the hdd... i tried a flush fit hdd window, but i screwed that up and had to buy another hdd shell... so idk what to do... ideas?
Ktmrida4lyfe
No feedback at all on the cut that took me 2 weeks ? Lol Naw im kidding, but feedback would be nice... and suggestions are nice too.
