I believe that the people getting banned for fan/led mods, are the ones who overload the powersupply line that the DVD is connected to or acutally tapping into DVD supply line. So one fan and a dozen LEDs are probably not going to get you banned, half a dozen fans and a hundred or so LEDs = Ban
A good way to make sure that are not overloading is to measure the Voltage line that you solder to, and if that changes (goes down) you are in danger of being banned.
No one but M$ knows for sure if certain mods will get you banned. Definately avoid tapping into DVD supply (+5V) cuz there is proof of that causing a ban. Otherwize just use good judgement, if you have a lot of crap starting to build up, look into using a different isolated powersupply cuz that will definately save you from a ban.
You have been lied to, you can't get banned for installing things in your 360 (leds, fans etc)
