my bro has a vaio pcv-rs520 that he has had for years working fine, Now all of a sudden it detects anything you connect to the usb as "being able to run faster on a 2.0 port- then says it has none" of course it has all 2.0 ports because they worked fine before. I've tried system restore, updating the drivers, etc.

Has anyone had and fixed a problem like this before?

Did he do a reinstall of the operating system lately? If so, maybe he didn't upgrade to the latest service pack. I believe USB 2.0 was only available on SP2 and above.

It has SP2 already, I updated to SP3, and it did nothing. so then i went into the bios and messed with some settings i read somewhere, nada. so i went back to bios and enabled everything to default settings, and saved.

Boom. it now works. weird.

he must have messed with some setting in the bios or something
