as far as i know all laptop drives will work with the ps3, so yes that should do the trick for your space needs 
Not sure if the 1.5" SATA drive will fit I know the standard size is a 2.5" SATA drive
It's not a 1.5" drive, it's a 2.5" drive. That 1.5 is the SATA speed.
