I'm contemplating getting someone here to mod my son's wii. What are the benefits of getting your wii modded? I have a modded xbox, are they similiar? Please advise.

Well you can do it yourself for free as you can softmod your Wii.

There is a lot of information at http://nintendo-scene.com/ as well as a section for selling services such as modifications.

There is a lot of homebrew available for the Wii, but not as much as for the Xbox1. There are more advances made every day though.

now you can play backups of wii games and gc games without an overpriced modchip... via the homebrew channel.... and a few apps

I just read over at gbatemp.net that you COULD NOT run game cube backups unless you are using a modchip.

I know next to nothing about the wii as i've been using my modded xbox 1 for emulators and movies however my girlfriend just bought me a wii and i'm wondering the same thing as the OP of this thread.

Wii mod is working great. Backups are the problem. Where and how?
