I have been pulling my hair out trying to get the key off a liteon. I can get the 2 other files, and they look good, but i always get nothing but 0's for my key. I am using a homemade probe and my mobo doesn't have a serial connector, so I am using a serial-to-usb converter. Is there a difference between getting all 0's and getting all C's for a key?

I've tried using both jungleflasher and dvdkey32, using a via card for sata port. Do i need to bridge R707 if i am using a homemade probe. I have tried reading alot, but there is alot of info scattered about.

I hate being the noob asking questions......

ok use dvdkey32..
type dvdkey32 xxxx y (xxxx being port number y being serial number) DONT hit enter yet
turn the lite-on drive on at this ppint and eject the tray..now push the tray in half way..either turn the power off to the connectivity kit or unplug the molex and replug it so power to the lite-on has gone completely..with power restored to lite-on and drive half open/closed insert your home made probe and hit enter..if you dont get the key try the probe a bit harder etc and press right arrow key to retype the dvdkey32 xxxx y command and hit enter..

aso if using a usb converter make sure the serial port number is correct and also that you have the correct usb drivers for your device..

having the exact same problem
mine are either 0s or a no good key
method advised in this thread yielded the same results as starring ip the system with the tray half open and 9 pin out

ok, rebuilt the key, and power cycled the drive after sliding the tray in halfway. Got a key. did it again. got a key. comapred them, they are a match. HOWEVER, now i run firmtool on it and i get

*** SUCCESS ***
drive key copied.

*** WARNING ***
No source for lite-on serial

Your hacked firmware is now ready to be flashed.

is the lack of source for serial an issue?

for playing backups no..for playing on live yes..this is also a symptom of having firmtool on desktop or long file structure as described in readme..try dropping it on c: drive so its c:/firmtool1.3.1

run it again and make sure you get the new firmtool 1.3.1 (link in forums or xbins)
copy all 4 files created by dvdkey32 inquirery/key/ident/dummy bins into firmtool 1.3.1 folder
also drop the ix15-liteon.bin from the ixtreme package in there to..rename it to ix15.bin
start a command prompt and browse to firmtool directory and type "firmtool dummy.bin ix15.bin" without the quotes..you should get a valid ixtreme all ready to flash

if you still get same warning try redumping the key with dvdkey32 to create new files..

SWEET!! dumped it again with dvdkey32 (jungleflasher last time) and firmtool says all good now. Key matches the dumps from before...time to erase and flash....here we go!!

make sure its firmtool 1.3.1 though as firmtool 1.3 doesnt copy the serial over properly..it says it has but in reality hasnt..theres been a thread about it and its been recomended that people who have used 1.3 reflash their drives..so you may as well start with 1.3.1 then you only need to flash once lol..
if you want to be 100% sure before you flash open dummy.bin and the ix15 firmtool created in jungle flasher and put a tick in the advanced and click both serial tabs..they should be identical on all 5 lines at the end..line 2 and 4 are the ones to check

thanks for the help. I've got it erased now, but I can't seem to get dosflash to write to it. it shows up in the list and seems to identify it properly, but when i tell it to write to it, it goes to erase it, and freezes. If I run l-o-eras before, it gives me ff72, but dosflash can't seem to get past the erase to the write part. Any ideas?

Thanks again for any and all help.

make sure you pull power from the drive after erasing..i have problems with ck3 lite freezing at flashing if the light is blue..if its red (mode cool.gif it flashes..but if i yank molex after erasing and plug it back in it auto goes to red..so try yanking molex or pressing mode b switch as well if your connectivity kit has it..

i am using the 360 to power it. I will try some more power cycling. I am trying in JungleFlasher, which is difficult because my pc keeps freezing momentarily. JF can see it but when I try to write to it it keeps giving me invalid status.

have you tried a different version of dosflash
