ok so previously i had a samsung ms28 and i was able to backup using the 0800 disc and Xbox backup creator

however now my xbox contains a samsung ms28 drive spoofed as a new lite-on drive(as required to play backups on my newer model xbox), now still using the 0800 disc in windows gets my drive recognised by windows (using pre iExtreme firmwarte), however XBC i dont think is coded to use my samsung that looks like a lite-on.

and i assume if i re-flashed and spoofed as a proper samsung drive it would work fine in XBC, so anyone had this situation? and is there a work around without having to flash my drive each time i want to backup, then re-flash when i want to play games?

Since iXtreme firmware started (as opposed to Xtreme before) you cannot rip any more with the play firmware.

you need to flash the xtreme800 firmware

why dont you use the last samsung drive you had? anyway you must have a drive flashed with 0800 firmware or a kreon drive. no way around it. so benq / samsung flashed with 0800.

its just spoofed as a lite on drive so that my newer style xbox will let me use it

i am using 5.3c

if it is 5.3c then yes you should be able to use the 0800 disc,

issue might be the spoofing which cause XBC/Schtrom not to be able to use it anymore. Maybe you can try with the "FW Branding Check" on/off in the options of XBC..

Finally, not sure how safe is 5.3 anymore (jitter, stelath check, bad angles... all in iXtreme), but only FYI, not of my business really.

thanks for the tip, i tried with the branding check option ticked, however the drive still does not come up on the list =\

so what ive done, is just flashed a non-spoofed version of the firmware (still 5.3c tho) so the only difference is the drive looks like a ms28 rather than a lite on DS-whatever and im backing up some of my games as we speak.

so yeah its only because Xbox backup creator is not programmed to work with the lite-on spoofed firmware.
im sure more and more people will be doing this (as lite-on drives seem to be whats in all the new 360's) so maybe in next version it may be updated to fix this.
