Hi,

im doing a pinhead install, but the holes are filled with solder and there is also bumps of solder on top that would stop the pinhead going in fully, does that matter?

i dont have a solder pump sad.gif

Any advice on how to go about this please?

Only way is to desolder those holes. The wire method is really really easy though if the holes are prefilled.

If you really want the pinheaders though, use a solder pump or get a desoldering braid. The solder vacuum is only like 8$ too. beerchug.gif

i think i could get the desoldering braid easy enough from my local shop... i've never desoldered before.

Would i be able to get rid of all the solder for the pinhead?

I know desoldering braid, for me, was pretty hard...

Where did you get your pin header at??
diablo996
Yeah, the desolder braid is a lot harder than the solder pump.

bald bouncer.

I have the motherboard removed, the holes where not as deep as i thought and i have quite a thin point on my soldering iron, just getting the braid now.

I've never been very good at this soldering lark...

What is a solder pump, and how does it work?!

Don't get the solder pump, get the vacuum (if you were to go that router). I bought the desoldering braid just in case and actually just used it for some holes that were really hard to remove. It actually isn't that bad. beerchug.gif

Vacuum, pump, same difference. Here is what I used: http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?cata...%5Fid=64%2D2098

That damn thing is hard to use...........

I suggest using a solder braid, the one from radioshack comes with great instructions, plus if you accidentally get solder on something, (like a ram chip like my dumbass did smile.gif " it will take it off alot easier then those damn solder suckers

I'm thinking of using the Pin head as well and I have a v1.0 Xbox which means the holes will most certainly be filled with solder.

Is it if it is worth going through all the trouble of removing all the solder or should I stick with the wire install? I'm thinking that desoldering braid might be a good option for me as I have used a solder pump before at school and it didn't seem to be that effective. unsure.gif

desoldering is not for the novice, i've removed a track on the motherboard using it sad.gif

I installed the pin header before and i have NEVER desoldered. I used braid too. It took about 20 mins very easy. Im a novice i guess i just got skills cause i had no probs doing this.
