Hey, I want to build a DIY cheapmod as described in DIY Cheap Mod but don't want to build the programmer as it requires alo't of parts (LPC Programmer). Can I simply use my 1.6 soft-modded xbox with an initial boot into the standard Microsoft BIOS, load a bios flashing utility, reconnect the yellow wire of the cheapmod and flash it using something like XFlash? (Using this for a MAME cabinet and only need Cromwell)

Thanks!

I don't think you can. As I understand it you can only flash the BIOS location you booted from - and obviously in your case with a 1.6 that's not possible! If you can borrow a chip you could boot from that, then hotswap to your new chip and flash with Evox.

correct, you have to boot from the LPC to flash the LPC

although if you get another modchip you can just hotswap them and flash the blank one (ive done it many time)

make sure you use pinheaders smile.gif
