Normally by the DVD tray but the Philips/Benq and Lite-On look very similar. If your Xbox was manufactured after April 2008 then you've got a high chance of owning a Lite-On.

Not too sure, but check out the Connectivity Kit V3, it has tutorials for Jungle Flasher on almost all drives.

If you search these forums I've posted the link to the 0.43 jungleflasher, at work dont have the link at the moment.
the search function on this forum does not work. It goes to google and doesn't provide me any results...
On the CK3 website, there is no tutorial using Jungle Flasher .43 let alone Jungle Flasher tutorial for any drives besides the Lite-On...
p.s. how do I flash Hitachi using Jungle Flasher .43? (i found the .pdf tutorial for Jungle Flasher, it doesn't show HItachi.... although theres a tab for it for Jungleflasher .43

You can't do hitachi's in 0.43, you can Mode-B and Read, but it doesnt support write yet. It will probably be released along with the ix1.51 firmware.

There are plenty of tutorials out there. I would suggest checking the pinned topics on the "Xbox 360 Hacking Forums > Technical DVD-ROM and Modified DVD Firmware Forum" Just a hint. seeing that people spend all kinds of time researching and making these tut's for us to use. It would be nice if people actually looked them.
Just to point out the difference between a BenQ and LiteOn (2 wire colors)
Remove the front faceplate of your system and look through (with a small light source) a hole the size of your pinky finger to the upper right of where the 2nd memory card slot is and right under the dvd tray. If the wire you see thru that hole is WHITE it is a BENQ if it's YELLOW it's a LiteOn and you'll need to get a spear/kit.
