Hi guys, i have put a working dvdrom drive from a 40 gig ps3 into a 60 ps3 model, everything seems to fit and the drive functions ok ejects and spins the disc, but there seems to be no reading going on. I have tried a ps3 game and the 60 gb ps3 dosent seem to be recognising the discs i put in. The drive is tested fine and working as i have just pulled it from a fine working 40 gig ps3.

Many thanks

the ps3 drive is locked to the board... if u swap the drive boards in the dvd drives it should solve the problem...

xbox and ps3 use drive keys so u cant stick in any old drive! pain in the ass when it goes wrong tho

The Blue Ray drive board is locked to the motherboard, not the physical drive. Changing the board will not help. You must use the original Blue ray drive board. There are 2 different variants (at this time) of the Blue ray drives; you must use the same type your Ps3 came with. The only way I have been able to tell the difference is the part numbers on the laser module. Hope this helps
