Ok, a little background first.. I have an xbox v1.0 and an xecuter2lite (w/ pogo pins). One day I turned on my xbox, and apparently my modchip slipped and got misaligned from the d0 and/or LPC points (therefore the evox dashboard did not load). So I opened the xbox up and tried to aligned the pogo pins with the respective d0 and LPC points. When I tried to start up the console, I got an error screen with the number 16 at the top left corner. I checked the tutorial section on the xbox-scene website and found out the error was associated with the dashboard. Sooooooo, my question is, how do I solve this problem?
Is there a way to go back to the default dash? Do I need to connect the xbox and a PC though a network and replace the evox dash (quite possibly corrupted) with an updated one? Please provide any solutions to resolve my xbox problem. It will be highly appreciated.

sounds like your mod-chip stoped working and now when it loads off the M$ Bios it gets the evoluion-x xbe and can't load it cause its unsigned code.... the solution, fix your mod-chip!

First off, are you certain that my modchip needs to be fixed? If so, how exactly can I fix my xecuter2lite modchip? Any suggestions (besides resorting to buying a new one)? Oh and I forgot, I tried booting the xbox without the modchip in place, and it still gives me this error (I don't know if this new information helps or not..).
DermicSavage
is evox named xboxdash.xbe?

if it is, then i suggest u check the connections again, cause it sounds like it isnt turning on...

and if all else fails, then the chip is prolly busted
trob
Boot up into msdash and check the clock. If your clock needs to be set your bios chip will not boot. Set the clock.
Post your results.
bb07
yeah, your going to have 2 fix or buy a new chip
to ftp and fix your dashboard.
dry.gif that sucks
kyu112
The clock setup screen doesn't show. I guess I could check all the connections, and see if they're secure. But if all else fails, how can I FIX the modchip (if it is a busted modchip)? How can I SEE that it's fried?

Oh, and do you guys think it's JUST the modchip that's acting up and not the xbox? I know I'm asking a lot of questions, but I'm so damn frustrated right now.. mad.gif

did you try soldering it? I got countless errors working with my pogo pin, i just threw it out laugh.gif
trob
Disable the chip or better yet take the chip off and see if your xbox boots normally. If so then you have isolated the issue to the chip.
Next if the xbox is ok, throw the pogo pins out the window or solder them. You will be much happier.
Once you have a properly attached chip, boot up your xbox (make sure your clock is set) and continue on.

i had a similar problem with my matrix chip........the receiver stretches over time .......so i found a nut and bolt small enough to bolt the matrix to the board then filed down the receiver on the case.......flash the chip before reinstalling and havent had a problem since nice tight fight........oh yea....use lock washers on the top and bottom of the mobo....then throw it down the stairs.....youll notice everything else broke.....but the matrix is on there rock solid....

The thing is, I get the same error even when the modchip is completely off. The error is associated to the dashboard (I read somewhere on the xbox-scene site what the error 16 meant). So I guess the problem is isolated in the xbox (probably a corrupted dashboard file). But some ppl have been saying that it could also be the modchip (read the first couple replies).. I'm so damn confused..

sounds like u renamed the xboxdash.xbe that was originally on the xbox an most probably renamed evoxdash to xboxdash.xbe did u do this ????
trob
Yes, you must have over-written your xboxdash.xbe file. Your going to have to get your mod chip working for sure and boot up to a cdrw. I dont know if you can run the original ms xboxdash.xbe from a cdrw, has anyone done this?
LaMagra
dude does your xbox boot up with a boot-cd???? if so u have killed or renamed your original xboxdash.xbe file which is pretty easy to fix so don't panic

Hi
I to have messed up my m$ dashboard. I think it happened when I renamed it and installed the evox dash. At one time I was able to boot to if from within evox, but now get the error 21 when I try to boot it. I also think it could have been when I used Avalonch. I clicked on live update with my chip turned on not knowing what it was. Now that I cant get the m$ dash going I think it might have been a link to M$ sit to update the M$ dash?
Anyway I have herd that theirs not much I can do now (I did’int back things up) so my question is…..if my time get reset can I change it without the m$ dash? As well if my time goes will it look me out of my xbox? oh and yes my chips still works.
Thanx.

Kyu112-

Just a thought:
Did you upgrade your hard drive? Is it locked or unlocked?
I get an error code when I boot to the original dash with my unlocked HD - though the code # is escaping me at the moment....

Okay well to the original question:

1) Does your Xbox boot with Modchip on and works?
no-see question 2
yes-then be happy

2) Do you get the same error when you take off the modchip?
no-see question 3
yes-see question 3

3) Did you replace xboxdash.xbe with another dashboard?
yes-see question 4
no-see question 4

4) Did you Try booting a CD-RW or any media that used to work on your Xbox, and did it work?
no-Read Solution #1 on the bottom
yes-Read Solution #1 on the bottom

Solution #1 - Your Modchip isnt aligned properly or your harddisk isn't locked.
Solution #2 - Then you just need to recover your files on C

I hope this helps biggrin.gif
MrPink
Yes it does help some. Thanx for the reply! Any help is good.
Yes the xbox boots with the chip on. But only the evox. So yes Im happy about that biggrin.gif but with the chip on or off it wont boot the M$ dash
I haven’t tried uninstalling the chip. I had it installed for me and would’int know how to take it off.
Yes I have renamed the m$ dash to M$dash and the evo x to xboxdash. Like I say it worked like that for a while.
As I was saying in my first post cound it have been form the Avalonch dash? or am I on glue? and agen could not geting into the M$ dash give me problems later? Thanx all
MrPink
oh and sory no I did'int upgrade my HD and I dont have a back up of c: (now I wish I did) Iv done it now so it cant get worst! and I backed up e:
CraiZEAH
uhm dude, how about booting stuff from the DVD drive? i mean not retail games but evox or so ?
if it doesnt, go put it back at the dude who sold it and to fix it biggrin.gif
Flagg3
What happened is that your evox dash was named xboxdash.xbe - when you chose live update it overwrote your xboxdash.xbe with the new one. Now nothing on the hard drive will work.

What you need to do is boot with an EVOX cd and rewrite the files on the C: drive. I know the fix used to be to restore your backup of your C: drive but I believe it is possible to fix the files manually. Do a search on the forums to see if you can find what files need to be replaced.

Good Luck!

Actually, I haven't tried booting with a boot-cd.. I guess I'll try it when I get a chance to fix my xbox. But how is it possible to have the evox.xbe (renamed to xboxdash.xbe) to be replaced by the original xboxdash.xbe. A few months ago, I was able to install games onto the hdd, set up apps, and play games.. I stopped playing for a while.. then one day when I decided to play with the xbox, the led light flashed red. Assuming the modchip was misaligned, I opened the xbox and attempted to realign it. After that, I tried booting the xbox. Everything went pretty well, until I got the error 16 screen thrown at my face.

So, if there is nothing wrong with the xbox and the modchip, and if the problem is a replaced xboxdash.xbe file, I have no idea how that could have happened. I mean, I'm not even subscribed to xbox live (therefore, the xboxdash.xbe could not have been replaced through the online service)...

I don't think my xbox hdd is unlocked.. I have the original hdd in my xbox. Excuse my n00bness, but can the hdd do that by itself? And what is this lock/unlock business?.. Man, I should've just stuck to messing around with pc's.. blink.gif
trob
You have to lock it to play on live. All standard xbox drives are locked. It is almost transparent though. You really can not tell a difference if it is locked or not.
MrPink

actually disregard my previous reply.. there actually is no question to be answered (stupid me.. didnt even bother reading it over.. ass tired when i wrote it). sorry, i guess what i meant was, do you guys see any problems that could have resulted when i attempted to realign the modchip? could my attempt might have replaced the xboxdash.xbe file, somehow?
