Hi,
Does anyone knows where I can found more technicals details about how the burning process occur?
I want to study more about this and verify why they say its impossible to make a perfect 1:1 copy.
If the cd is burned in binary, why it just wont make a raw copy of the "oh-ones"? I mean, there are these security sectors and every other methods to protect the cd but why it just wont read and copy them too? If the drive just read without interpreting I think that would be possible to make it.

xbox DVD's are not burned, they are pressed and also, you would have to have specific machinery to make a 1:1 copy of a 360 DVD anyway because even softwares that make 1:1 binary copies of dvds expect a certain format and also you can't make a 1:1 copy of a 360 DVD in a regular DVD drive ecause that too expects a specific format on the disk, that is why when you put your game in a dvd player it shows the dumb put this in a 360 to play it and when you put it in a 360 it plays the game, the 360 is looking elswhere and whith a ifferent physical format of the disk.

That is correct. The blanks you buy in the store are not really blanks. They are formatted (DVD+R, DVD-R, etc.) For example, put a blank DVD+R disc in your writer and read the information about that disc in DVD Info. That info was put on the disc when it was formatted.

Now to make a 1:1 copy of an xbox disc you would need a machine that can write to a completely unformatted blank disc.

With the dvd firmware hack the data on the part of the disc we cannot write to is copied to a part of the disc that formatted discs can be written to. The firmware is then programmed to look for the needed data in the usual retail disc place on the disc, and the new alternate place on the disc. If the drive reads what it needs to to boot the disc, then it boots.

The reason the new 1.51 firmware was needed is because MS started putting the NXE update on the game discs. This update caused a change in the game disc data distribution structure which for a very short time screwed up the hack.
