Full Version: I Don't Have My Original Hdd Anymore, What Should I Do If My 80gb

I've had my Xbox since 2003 or 2004, I bought it pre modded and I THINK it was modded with some Aladdin modchip as a cheap alternative to whatever other chips were avaliable at the time.
Either way the system has been working perfectly since then and I play it literally every day so I'm worried that with all that use the HDD is eventually going to die on me, in a couple months it's going to be 5 or 6 years old.

Guys, I don't have my original HDD and I bought it pre-modded so I don't know anything about how stuff works, all I know is how to use MPC, copy files, ftp to my Xbox and do some light modifications to the Evox menu.
So what can I do if my current 80GB HDD breaks since I don't have the original HDD the Xbox came with?

well becuse you have a chipped xbox and depending on what bios you have and i am presuming its an old bios.
you can just download slayers disc and say you got a 100gig hdd,put the new hdd in your xbox and put the slyers disc in your drive.then set it to auto install and it will reformat your drive and put on all the dashes you need or you can pick which dash you want.

There are essentially two types of mods; hardmods (modchips and flashed TSOPs) or softmods. They let you do much the same things, but softmods are a bit trickier to fix should things go wrong.

The method xyteam describes applies to hardmods. You literally just throw in a new HDD, boot off a suitable disc (such as Auto Installer Deluxe (AID) or Slayers), and off you go again. If your boot sequence differs from this at all then you have a hardmod.

With a softmod, you'll want to have your EEPROM backed up ahead of time. This is actually a good idea regardless of what sort of mod you have. To do this, run ConfigMagic on your console, tell it to extract a copy (it'll store it on the root of your E partition), then just transfer it across to your PC (via eg FTP).

Note that ConfigMagic also has a bunch of other features, don't mess with them or your console might stop booting... wink.gif

thanks guys
guess I got nothing to worry about then.

It's good to know my Xbox is here to stay because thanks to all the stuff it can do when modded I've been using it non stop for years now.
