Where is an updated python? I only got a old 2.3 version and all scripts now fail.

On what are you running? I guess XBOX. You do not have to update python by yourself, it is already integrated withn XBMC. Just get one of the last realease of XBMC (T3CH for example), and it should work.
Python version on XBMC is 2.4.
