I have a Samsung drive, and a day or so ago, it stopped reading games and DVDs.
Inside, the disc will spin, but the laser stays stationary, making a whirring noise, while attempting to read.
I'm not sure what the problem is or if it can be repaired.
I'm also considering buying a replacement, and could use some input on that as well.
Edit: I just checked, and it plays CDs with no problem.

I had the same problem. It made like a ka-ka-ka sound.
I did a laserreplacement and that did the trick until now a year later or so. Then you don't need to spoof, change passkey etc. That may worked for you.

If you have the model # of it I'm sure you can find them on eBay. Well at least they do with the ps3's blu ray lens, I was thinking about purchasing a broken one and fix the lens to sell it for $200+.
