NOTES ON EMU/SKIN TESTING FOR MADMAB EDITION EMUS WITH GILLES DYNAMIC SKINS

NEW BUGS:

(Individual Emu bugs will be listed below with their emulator. Bugs listed here are for the NES emulator, the most up-to-date one we have, so it is generally expected they'd be on every emu, or that the features that are buggy haven't even been implemented on most emus at this time (10-01-09).)

1) If you were already highlighting a game in the romlist and you leave for any reason, when you come back it will show the next one in the order. (Example: If you left the romselect screen and it was on the Boxart, when you go back to the game it will now be on the Title Shot first. If you're on the title shot when you leave, it will be on the action shot now). Can we get it so it always displays a game's boxart first in this situation?

2) In Game Options line when in 10 Yard Fight looks as follows:
"In Game Options (17). SFX(79), mp3CDDA(88), CDDA" (the last A is cut off).

A) What is the (17) for after "In Game Options" and how do you change it if it's important?
cool.gif Is left stick Up&Down and Left&Right supposed to both alter "mp3CDDA"?
C) What is the "CDDA" feature that is cut off, and how do we move that?
D) If all three of these are needed, will it be fixed so we can see all 3 options?

3) Previously it was believed for the A2600 and PCE that Screenshots could not be controlled by the left joystick like usual, instead only by time, and it would only display boxart and cartart.

Notes from a post on this:

QUOTE
Now, when you press right or left on the left joystick it only advances the title/action shot. It does not move the Box/Cart art, which still moves at its own pace. (So if timer is set to "0", you will never see the Cart art the way it's set up now)

I would love to have that ability to set the title/action shot to "0" and then it would always only show just the Title shot... Then I could set the Box/Cart to about 3 seconds and I would be able to control the Box/Cart with the left joystick, while the video played and the Title shot displayed the whole time.

I always thought the action shots were redundant, but there was no way I was going to get rid of them. Now people can have them turned off if they don't like them if we can do something like this.

IMAGE ISSUES/ IMAGES NEEDED:

1) All Skins: Need ~FULL TILT DX & ~Full Screen Video Skin Config Preview.
2) Need to update DOSBOX, BLUEMSXBOX & X68000X splash screen to have the new "Credits" image. (These are the more static "Lite" skins).
___________________________________________________________________________

SUGGESTED FEATURES:

1) Enhanced Favorites option, which displays full screen video of your favorites as you scroll through them.
2) In-Game "Media Viewer" option which will allow you to load Videos/Artwork/Manuals/GameFaqs with ease.
3) Full Screen Skin Configuration previews.
4) Multiple, Savable Favorites Lists which can be used for Top Lists on the internet as well as personal favs.
5) Background Music Randomizer.
6) Only display the CRC for a rom if there is no synopsis entry for it.
7) Brainstorm some more clean-up in standard menu.
8) Clean up the in-game menu.
9) Sort/Filter feature.
10) Put skin configurations in a folder inside the skin (and set up emu to read them there)

FIXED BUGS (10-01-09):

A2600/LYNX/NES/PCE:

1) When you push right to scroll through screenshots on a new game, it skips from 0001 to 0003 using the normal Screenshots. -Fixed

2) Using Enhanced Artwork, the emu only shows the action shot if there was a title shot first. Otherwise the box remains blank. If there was a title though, the title and action will take turns displaying while the Box and cart alternate. -Fixed

3) I still can't scroll through artwork when the timer is set on anything other than 0 when using the Enhanced Artwork. (Still have this problem)

4) When you load up a skin configuration and go back to the main list, often the list of games disappears when you go back to select a game until you press right or left to jump to the next letter (that always solves the problem).[/s]

I've done testing on all 4 emus and I believe that these findings go for all four of them. As of 10-01-09, these are all fixed on the NES emulator. In theory, when the other emus are updated these problems should be gone as well. Need to test on updates.

SNES

1. When I start the emu, the mp3 is muted and I can't bring the sound back up. When I load a new skin configuration the music starts again though.

2. Freezes up on game load quite a bit (quite a bit for me isn't much since I test hundreds of roms or more... might not happen for the casual user). Seems to freeze up every 8 to 30 games or so. The quickest was 3 games. I'm also scrolling through all 4 pieces of art and checking the synopsis while doing this too. (I don't notice this happening anymore 10-01-09)

GENESIS

Ultimate Mortal Kombat Trilogy Hack works with last XPORT emulator, but doesn't work with Madmab Edition emulator. (This is the only game out of thousands I've tested for all consoles that doesn't work with the new Madmab Edition emus but used to work with the last XPORT ones). Game still doesn't work after removing about 5 banners. Will try to remove more later.

PSX
XBOX STILL FREEZES WHEN YOU EXIT GAMES... (Not noticing this anymore 10-07-09. Will keep an eye out for it.)
gilles9999
Ok ressX put these jpg in the neogenesis and mednafen pce dynamic skins, rename them "main.jpg"
The "US" versions of the systems will appear as default ones, keep the pal versions of the main screens in the skin root and rename them "main euro.jpg" (right click on these pics)

I finally found a good quality pic of the genesis with the legendary sonic 1 inside! Exactly what i wanted! smile.gif

IPB Image

For the turbografx 16, IMPOSSIBLE to find good quality pics! i had to retouch it with photoshop

The result is quite good though

They look beautiful my man.

I'm actually going to save two separate skins instead of having the backup if you don't mind. I think it would be easier for the end user to just delete the one they won't use instead of trying to instruct them how to rename and delete jpgs within the skin. (Pretty awesome how we can do that with ease now since the skins are basically identical now in terms of structure, huh?)

You got those synopsis PNG files too? I just checked mine and they're all PNG files for some reason. Any helpscreens or other images that will be in the skins would be appreciated too.

THANKS,
~Rx

EDIT: Hey again Gilles.... I was wondering if you could create console banners for the US versions of TG-16 and Sega Genesis too. All we have for either of them now is the European counterparts. I'm not sure at this point, but we may need alternates for other systems as well. I did check NES and it is good because it has both the Japan and US controller images. I'll have to start making notes on that too (I will add a console banner check for each skin now as well).

Thanks again,
~Rx

EDIT 2: The TG-16 skin still also shows "PC Engine" logo flashing at the top. Any chance you could get me a TG-16 logo instead?

Oh... also, the dragon splash screen has the PC Engine background instead of a TG16 background as well. Same with the Genesis.... it's got the Megadrive background for the dragon splash screen.

I have many many good quality pictures of the systems from my old collection,
but most of them are japanese consoles. You can get them here:

http://famicomfamily.com/gallery/v/consoles/

And this is a nice one for my PC Engine DU RX:

Cheers,

gilles9999
Thanks for the help Cos',
Unfortunatelly i was specifically searching for a turbografx 16 pic (Us system); the pc engine duo is the jap version of the Nec system right?
Don't worry about the splash screen RessX, i'll release separates versions for nes euro/jap; genesis euro/jap, and nec pce euro/jap. I'll have the time towork with photoshop and send them to you before the release
ressurectionx
Cool... we'll need US console banners (controllers and systems) too. cool.gif

I'll also let you know when I go through everything again if we need any other alternates. So far it's just for those two systems we need the alternate banners.

And I'll let you know if anything else comes up as well.

Overall, everything looks very good so far.

These look excellent gilles! smile.gif Will you be adding them as a (permanent) option within the next skin updates?

ressurectionx
I'm updating the skins right now MM. All those things you see at the top of the thread are stuff I've verified/changed.

Right now I'm just waiting on some pics and I have to normalize all the mp3's. There are some skins I haven't been able to test at all yet because the emu hasn't been updated too.

Right now, I've copied and altered the Genesis and TG-16 skins so there is a US and E version for both of them. Just need the dragon splash screen US image and a few US Console Banner sprites for them and they're good to go.
ressurectionx
Totally updated this thread now with my findings for the new betas. Also made all the "Background" folders in both the Skins and the Emus themselves. Deleted old synopsis file from emu folder and deleted "Help" folder, so the emulators that haven't gotten the newest updates are broke in that regard unitil a new beta comes out.

I've remarked on any bugs that I've noticed while documenting this stuff and just playing around with the emus. Some emus seem to have their own little unique problems at this point. Except for the Virtual Boy, none of the problems seem to keep you from playing games... although the Box freezing every time you leave a PSX game can get grating on the nerves.

I've remarked skins that are missing your Black and White, full-screen, console images for the synopsis Gilles. There were only a few missing. I think we should have these along with the other ones you made since they seem to be the favorite so far.

I've also mentioned where we need new pics. This is just for the alternate skins, I believe, so it's Genesis, TG-16 and possibly Sega Master System.

Let me know your thoughts at this point and what I could do to make this better for you guys. This is the thread that wraps up our work as a whole. We get this stuff all working and it's just plug-n-play my Xtras into it and you're gold.

Tomorrow i don't work! ouf!
i will fix all these annoying different us/palconsoles versions (european and us users like to see their original system, i totally understand) Fortunatelly, i have (now with all the time i've spent browsing the web for good quality consoles pics) good quality pics for almost all the us/euro system.
I will send you all this tomorrow.
For the synopsis backgrounds... I like to let the more possible choices for the users, so i think we will simply put (at least) 2-3 differents synopsis backgrounds in the "backgrounds" folder.

I suspect I know what is happening with this. I think I had the same problem with BluemsxBox. Took me a while to figure out that one.

ressurectionx
It took me a while, but I finally merged all of our skins. I don't see any problems at all with the configs Gilles. Everything looks perfect to me as far as they are concerned.

Check out above for the images we're still missing for the skins you've made, and also for the remaining XPORT emus that don't have a Dynamic Skin if you desire to take them on.

I also have bugs listed with the betas up there as well as things that still need to be updated. I'll be checking those off as we get them fixed.

I'll get a skin upped to you soon Gilles.

Thanks for updating exactly what has been done and what need to be done!
1) Did the "no bg music bug" is always happening with the latest ATARI7800X dynamic skin?
2) Also for SoftvmuX i have included one synopsis background in the "backgrounds" folder.
3) The "colecovision logo bug" in the main screen was solved, is it always the case when you have merged our work?
4) The master system, are you sure it's first design (seen in the mekax dynamic skin main screen) is different in the United States of America?
ressurectionx
I see you're still editing that, so I may have to reply again lol...

You're welcome man. I'm trying to weed out any of the bugs for you guys to see. I figured this was the best way for all of us to see where we're at. It was a ton of work so far, but I think it was worth it now that we have a roadmap.

1) The 7800 has never played music as far as I know. I see the mp3 there, but no music plays. I don't have speakers on the computer I do my work on so I can't listen to it, but Media Player makes it look like it does play music. This may be an emulator problem.

2) I'll have to double check that. I can't believe I missed that.

3) Don't know why it's fixed lol... It wasn't working before, but it looks fine now. (I have done a ton of merging with FolderMerge, so it's possible that something I merged that you had done fixed it... I don't know)

4) The Master System is probably okay. I was just asking. I never had one before. It looks fine to me though.
gilles9999
perheaps you have an early beta, because in the last atari7800X beta madmab sent to me, the bg music plays fine. It's the only explanation i see (or else your tv speakers are broken happy.gif )

Have you find a way to "normalize" the mp3 bg music" level in all the skins?
ressurectionx
Weird. I think I have the newest beta. I'll have to figure out what's happening here. It's the only emu I can't hear music for. Thanks for checking.

I do have a way of normalizing the mp3 music. It gets great reviews. It doesn't actually alter the level of the song itself, but basically wraps the mp3 in code that calculates peaks and lows and normalizes all the music across all the mp3's you're using. That's why I'm waiting on it for now. I figure when we get all the skins for PM3 that we're going to do, it will be the last thing I do for all of them.

We still need some alterations in the code though to make it worthwhile. A way to control and save in the config files all the different volumes for BGmusic, in-game volume, sfx volume and video preview volume.

My plan now, is when we finally start releasing official updates we'll have the emus set up with perfect sound so nothing is so loud it knocks you on the floor and yet nothing is so low you can't hear it.

EDIT: Could you make images for the configuration previews when I get you the skin update??

When I send you the skin example it will also have my configuration "Full Tilt" in it as well. If we had images for all of the configs with the same names in the folder, perhaps it would be easy to display the different configs as we scroll through them. Here's hoping Madmab can do something with it. We'll have to discuss where the best place to put these would be.
BlueSlingShot
Do you guys have a ballpark about when these new skins are going to be released to the public?

Just wondering I've been keeping tabs on this for 6 months now and never heard any news of even a beta release anytime soon uhh.gif
madmab
Well the plan was to release a "public beta" of Mednafenx-NES but we are kinda waiting on mapper code changes from XTecuterX73 and for all intents an purposes AdamX is pretty much good to go.

But unfortunately real life is getting in the way. XT has some stuff going on and I myself have barely had any decent block of time to work on stuff either.

This is huge (in my opinion) to normalize video preview volume. ohmy.gif I made nes vids first and they were lower volume than the emumovies ones. Then I made genesis vids and the opposite turned out. rolleyes.gif (the emumovies genesis vids were kinda too low from the same perspective) [I can't win...! laugh.gif ]

Mednafenx-NES
"public beta"...

Rx and I will have to add/organize and polish some stuff, before this comes out. (dats, art/movies)

madmab
Although I'm hoping we can allow the user to adjust the master volume of "movies" as it is now it is currently at it's highest volume anyways. So I don't think it is gonna help much except in allowing the user to lower the volume of the ones that are "too loud".

I found this out the hard way with the colecovision movies and had to go back and double the volume on all of them. Same thing for the atarixlbox videos I'm doing. Best thing to do is compare volumes before getting to far into video creation. laugh.gif
Mega Man (?)
Agreed.
I did the same thing based off of your previous advise, madmab. smile.gif

I was able to equalize all the volume of the vids I did.
But... without having the emumovies ones, as a reference (before-hand). I didn't know exactly how to match to them. sleep.gif

I think I got them good. Mine aren't really a matter of too loud. but the originals may be too low (relatively)
I am producing a clearer/cleaner sound, but yes... these will (in turn) be the ones that stick out.

ressurectionx
I still haven't found a good way to normalize video volume. I don't know if it's possible on my rig. May need a Mac that's made for things like that. (Which means I'm out because I don't have a ton of cash lying around to upgrade now when there's so much other work that doesn't cost me more than time and electricity...)

Unfortunately, until somebody comes up with an easy solution to this problem, I think we're stuck with vids that vary (sometimes significantly) in volume.

My hope here is to be able to lower ALL volume by default, and then be able to save those settings. I don't even have a sound system and it's too loud for nightime at my apartment when the volume is on 16 on my TV without turning things down manually on the Box.

As far as I can tell, there are absolutely no problems with volume not being loud enough (except for a few vids that have very low volume, but like I said, that's kind of out of our control or at least the scope of my thoughts on this issue at this point).

The problems, and what I'm talking about having to remedy at this point, are these....

1) When you lower the in-game volume and exit the game, it is at full volume again when you enter the game. I would like a volume control setting for "in-game" volume that can be easily adjusted and permanent until somebody manually changes it.

2) You can't control the volume of the videos, period. I turn down the BGM music to the level where I could have the TV volume close to "30" without jumping for the remote when the emulator starts, but when I go to select games the video music is so loud I press exit right away until I can lower the TV volume with the remote. Unfortunately, after I do that the BGM music is so low I can barely hear it.

EDIT: 3) Probably an afterthought, but I'm thinking it would be nice to have the same kind of manual control for SFX volume as well. No good making all these changes and having perfect volume for your tastes on all the music and in-game sound effects, but hearing nails on a chalkboard rip from your speakers when you're bouncing from one game to the next in the game select screen.

plus this time, 2 differednts version for snes and genesis (euro or us system model)

the dynamic skins for winuaex and winstonx are "light" because these emus are "memory eaters" and we needed to "shrink" the skins for free up some memory (that's absolutly not the case for the other emus)

To fully enjoy them, well... you have to wait for the future madmab releases wink.gif

Dayum man...

I got my work cut out for me this weekend cool.gif

Good thing my foldermatch program didn't get infected.

I hate asking, after you went to all of that trouble, but would you mind uploading one huge file with all of the skins packed together? It will make it much easier on me and anyone else who wants the entire selection instead of just one or two of the skins.

Thanks!

I'll let you know my findings when I get a chance to go through them.

Thanks bud. Take a look this weekend if I can. cool.gif

EDIT:

I managed to get through all but 4 of the skins with foldermatch and get us both up to date. I haven't tested anything on the Box yet, but I'm sure it will look great. I like the upgrades and newer pictures that I've seen so far.

I also noticed you cut quite a few banners out of the Genesis (I think 5 of them). Maybe that will be enough to get MK Trilogy hack working. If not, I'll let you know. I'm going to try to cut out more stuff to see if we can get it to work then. If that works, I'll let you know and we'll decide which banners to keep after we know how many we have to get rid of.

Looking forward to seeing what you do next Gilles. When I am through, I will re-upload the skins back to you so we can both be at the same starting point for future changes. (There were a few naming errors and things that I've cleaned up and fixed so we should try to keep the same sets from here on out after I re-upload)

~Rx

EDIT 2:

Hey Gilles. I'm going to be wrapping up the skins you sent soon. I noticed that you have not updated all of them at this point. In my upload back to you I will add all of the skins that you didn't update here with the extra stuff you've added recently (like updated Madmab Edition images, Generic Preview Images, and anything else I've noticed you've upgraded).

Then from here on we can both start with the exact same set-ups for future upgrades.

EDIT 3:

Alright... got them all done and on my Box. Haven't tested anything out yet.

I've also updated the other skins you've made with the extra generic artwork and things that go on all the emus.

And for the big finale, I have made base Dynamic skins for the 12 emulators you haven't made them for yet. In these, any system specific images are just black place holders, while all of the other images that are used on all skins are included, as well as all the sprite folder names and such. Now you'll pretty much just have to drag and drop any artwork you make for them in the future into these skins and we'll have a skin for every XPORT emu on the Box!

When I'm through testing and I'm sure I've made them all as perfect as I can make them without the images that are still needed, I'll send them your way. They'll be in 3 folders. "Gilles' Updates", "Other Updates" and "Needed Skins".

I'll be sure to give you my list of things I've altered and which images we still need when I'm through.

Along with that, I'm planning on releasing the NES/SNES/Genesis synopsis' that are updated to the full romsets of the current Xtras.

Later,
~Rx

EDIT 4:

Seriously dude.... you and your girl better be doing some amazing stuff outside of this with those talents. The emuload pics you're making now are killer. cool.gif
ressurectionx
Hey madmab... I see you're up. cool.gif

Still editing it, but I figured I'd mention to check out the top part of this thread and the Xtras. I've re-arranged and updated quite a bit of info. Hopefully the way I have the Xtras thread makes it easier for people to get help on videos and other things.
ressurectionx
Hey Madmab and Gilles!!!!

I've finished testing all the skin and emu updates! They look great.

Now if you look at the testing for each system, you can easily tell what is still a bug by looking at the red words. Most emus have one or two things wrong with them, such as a missing image or mp3, or the mp3 is there but the emu won't play it, or some other minor stuff here and there I hope you guys can take a look at.

A biggie is the way the screenshot display is broken for (I think) PCE and one of the Atari systems. Weird bug there, and it's only on two emulators.

I'm in the process of uploading the newest update for all the skins with a file inside that explains what I did.

I'll let you know as soon as I have them up.

Later,
~Rx

EDIT: HERE they are. Let me know what you think Gilles.
madmab
A2600/Mednafen PCE - I have not checked this since I recompiled but I don't remember having any issues wit the screenshots.

Are you saying it doesn't work when screenshot display time is set to 0.
I do have a question though. Which setup are you using on those two? The new media directory structure, the old screenshots directories, or both?

Atarixlbox - There is an option in the skin configuration where you select whether the song loops or not, maybe that needs to be checked.

A7800 - Maybe gilles9999 forgot to select the mp3 before saving the skin config? Or forgot to change the name?

Winuaex - X-port turned of mp3 support in this due to memory constraints.

ressurectionx
A2600/Mednafen PCE - Correction. I had the Enhanced Artwork on these two and forgot about that. I just had to switch back to my Full Tilt DX config to see all three boxes.

There is still some issues on handling Enhanced artwork that we should probably discuss. Right now, when you press right or left on the left joystick it only advances the title/action shot. It does not move the Box/Cart art, which still moves at its own pace. (So if timer is set to "0", you will never see the Cart art the way it's set up now)

If we have such individual control over the boxes, seemingly we have the potential for the ability to control them in the GUI. I would love to have that ability. I could set the title/action shot to "0" and then it would always only show just the Title shot...

Atarixlbox
- SOLVED

This one is kind of odd. I may have done something else too, but it seems like "Stop BGM Before Playing Game?" set to "No" got it working for me.....?

Oh well... not a problem anymore. (What was actually happening before was that the game videos would just completely knock out the mp3 and it wouldn't come back until you reloaded the emu or a config.

A7800 - SOLVED

DUR! Volume was down. Nice song there Gilles. Had that skin for how long and I've never heard that song right up until typing this cool.gif

Winuaex - BUMMER

Thanks for the notes Madmab. I'll update the thread.
madmab
Well "Left analog stick up/down - nothing" is still free. Maybe we could assign that to cycling the game box/cart. Of course it was under consideration for changing "favorite lists" but I have not implemented that. One issue with favorite lists is that as they are now they store the full file path. So I'm not sure if there is an easy way around that.

Adding a seperate timer for box/cart should be a piece of cake.

I'm working on adding the ability to set different size/locations for the box/cart art and allowing the skin creator to specify what displays where based on the width vs height. The intention being to allow the flexibility to display the "odder" box/cart art. Like Japanese vs US, etc....
ressurectionx
Well... even if we never get around to doing that Favorites list thing, we should still leave controls open for that, I think. I'm thinking the best solution right now would be to flip it so the left/right controls the Box/Cart instead, and then add that second timer so we can put it to zero. I really don't imagine much need to scroll through title/action or even look at the action shot at all when we've got videos.

Looking forward to seeing what you do next.

I'm really excited about seeing the other 12 emulators brought up to your new standard when you have time for that too.

Later,

madmab
Favorites list would still be pretty useful. It would just be hard to "share" it with other people cause experience tells me people like to store their ROMS in different locations and with different directory structures. But I can think of several instances where I wished I could have seperate lists.
ressurectionx
Well... the idea is to host this stuff in a way where everyone would have the same directory structure who used it. Of course, we couldn't talk about that here, and it's still premature to talk about it anyways.

Maybe we could have it scan all the roms in the sub directories of the Rom folder? Kind of like how it scans up to 4 directories in MAME, but it will look in every folder in one specified directory instead.
ressurectionx
Wow madmab!

I just looked at the difference between the NeoPopX update and the latest XPORT emu and the new one is 220kb bigger. You've really added a lot of code to these. Guess I didn't relize it until I saw one that got the full update from scratch.

Sweet

Wanted to let everyone know that Ultimate Mortal Kombat Trilogy, one of the coolest and most in-depth hacks ever, is now working again in the latest NeoGenesis beta.

Madmab...

The only emu-specific issues left now are getting the synopsis working right for PCE/TurboGrafx/PSX. Anything else that needs to be done on the emu end is for all emulators.

Gilles...

Any skin-specific issues are listed below each system in red. Mostly, these are just missing images. I'd love to hear back from you on this an know that you've seen what still needs to be done and you understand my testing results. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Hey guys, I put together skins for OdysseyX and Kegs-X. I also did skins for other xport emus that aren't being focused on such as FCEUltraX, HugoX, SMS+X and LynXbox, but realize you probably aren't interested in those. Heck, I made skins for some non-xport emus like Xenesis, Surreal64, and xSNES9x but that's another story.

Here's some other things:
* I put together an artwork pack for the Odyssey, (scanned my game boxes and found pics for the ones I don't have).
* Did some work on an art pack for the Intellivision, but haven't finished it. There's still a lot of gaps in the box art.
* Did a bit of work on an art pack for the Atari 5200 and a handful of XL/XE games. I have box art for most all the 5200 games, but not for protos.
* Found a nice pic of a playstation in one of my old magazine issues from back in '95. I made a scan of it to use in the main menu of the PCSXbox skin.

I'd like to get them uploaded somewhere once I get access to some decent internet. I lost my internet access last spring and have been stuck on ridiculously slow 12-18k (on average) dialup ever since. I still need to upload pics of my systems as well. I didn't forget. I just no longer have decent internet to upload anything, I don't have patience to sit and wait on dialup to even do much posting, and I've been too busy to get to a library. I should have time in the near future to get some uploading taken care of.

If it's too late in the game and it won't be useful anymore, let me know. I apologize for not posting sooner about why I haven't uploaded those system pics.
moonmaster1
I don't think anyone saw my question before but I think my question is more broad this time around that it should be brought to attention.

Will the new emulations support bios support? that means genesis' tmss bios, famicom bios, sony playstation bios, etc, etc....

I'm really liking the progress you guys are getting with the emulators. The only thing I regret is that I have to put as much if not more work for snes and genesis then I did for my nes emu. laugh.gif

Also I just saw that kega fusion has been updated to support X-men for 32X. Are you guys capable of editing the code for the rom to run on neogenesis or do you guys mainly stick to user interface adjustments?
ressurectionx
Hey Ex007,

Upload your skins at megaupload.com and post the link here and we can take a look at them.

We do plan on having updated Madmab Edition XPORT emulators and Gilles Dynamic Skins for all of the XPORT emus by the time we're done. (Actually, LynXBox already has an up-to-date but unreleased beta, Dynamic Skins and a nearly complete Xtras package already)

I'd love to see your Intellivision artwork pack when you're through. I haven't even touched that one yet.

I've also got a very nice collection of 5200/XL/XE/a800 artwork put together but I haven't uploaded it since it's not complete yet.

Anything else you come up with is more than welcome, especially for the computer type emus that I probably won't do to much work on myself.

Later,
~Rx

Hey moonmaster1,

What do you mean by BIOS support? All of the systems you mentioned have near 100% compatibility with the roms available, except for the PSX which is pretty hit or miss. I'm not sure what "BIOS support" would add. Could you explain?

Eventually I plan on making this all much easier to get on people's boxes when I start truly wrapping stuff up. It's just still a long way from that right now though. Sorry I can't make it easier yet, but trust that I've spent thousands of hours putting all of this together so even though it takes a while to get it all working still for you guys you're never going to find a collection like this anywhere else.

I'd LOVE to see the X-MEN game working for 32x. I don't know how easy it would be do add the support though. Madmab has done some pretty amazing things, and even added support for some games here and there, but I'm sure he'd have to learn how to do it for the 32x from scratch and I don't know if that's something he's interested in. Hopefully somebody comes around and can help out and get it done like XT did for adding support for some NES games that weren't working before.

Thanks for your interest,
~Rx
moonmaster1
well for more or less authenticity purposes it would add the initial boot up screens for each system such as the sega cd bios before booting to a game.

I believe xboy advance had bios support for the original, color, advance, and super game boy. It would be killer to see it applied elsewhere under options when configuring a game for the first time.

As for X-men 32X, two emulators are currently known to run it, Kega after steve snake heard the beta was dumped added support almost immediately and picodrive, a lesser known emulator that doesn't quite live to the standard of kega fusion.

If madmab can't figure it out, I am currently a member of a couple communities centered around sega and xbox *such as sega-16 for example* I'm sure I can recruit a few to the cause.
ressurectionx
Well... you already can see the boot up screens for Sega CD. You can't turn it on or off as far as I know, but now I know what you're asking.

I don't know.... Madmab...? Is this something that wouldn't be too much of a pain to add? It does seem like it would be pretty cool, especially if you could turn it on/off if you didn't want to see it.

I wouldn't wait on Madmab to see if he could do the X-Men thing though. I could be wrong, but I think it would be a moderately difficult thing that would eat up a lot of his coding time. I don't think he'd have too much personal interest in it himself, and I'm pulling for him to get sort/filter support and alternate favorites working now. His coding time is limited because he's got a hell of a lot more of a personal life than I've got currently cool.gif

I would be very interested if you could recruit anyone with coding experience here, particularly XBox coding experience. There are plenty of dummies like me on the scene that can do the grunt work (actually, that's a lie because I wish we had at least 10 more Mega Man ?'s, Stupot1's, Horscht's and pCeSlAyEr's), but I'd like to see a few more people with the ability to help code things work with madmab. XT did an amazing thing and got Paperboy II, Best of the Best, Crime Busters, some Mario hacks and a few other games working on NES and Madmab should be compiling those soon. He's also working on getting support for Great Wall (and I hope a few more Pirates that need mapper support).

I would LOVE to see a few more people here who could do a little niche work like that and work with madmab to get it all compiled in the new betas.

Let me know man. I'm seriously interested in this. If it's possible, this is some of the best news I've heard in a while.

Later,

Well unfortunately Neogenesis which is based on (GensX?) is mostly assembly. I think when looking around there were a couple of forks based off of it that converted alot of the code to C. Which just makes it all that more difficult to add any changes that have been made easily.

It may be possible to "update" to one of the emulators based off of GensX since they are similar. But it is not something I have the time for at the moment and there is a good chance it may take a performance hit. I'm not really sure.
ressurectionx
Hey Madmab,

I've updated many of the new betas you sent my way on the list. Still have to go through PSX, Wonderswan and ArnoldX.

CD Synopsis tested and working now on TurboGrafx and Sega CD!

Alphabetical skip that bypasses the prefixes like "CD - ", "GBA - ", "GG - "!

I was also pleased to see that for games with multiple disks that you can put the different image names in there and separate them with a comma just as if they were CRC headers.

I counted 4 games that were fixed by XT's mapper fixes, but he may know of more. (Let me know if there were more XT!)

Testing the other betas will take a bit more effort on my part, so I'll get to them later today or tomorrow.

Great work madmab,

I was also pleased to see that for games with multiple disks that you can put the different image names in there and separate them with a comma just as if they were CRC headers.

I counted 4 games that were fixed by XT's mapper fixes, but he may know of more. (Let me know if there were more XT!)

Testing the other betas will take a bit more effort on my part, so I'll get to them later today or tomorrow.

Great work madmab,

I'm missing Crime Busters and any Mario hacks you know work now.

Does ASCII brothers work now? That one looked pretty cool but always froze at the title screen.

Your fix also got the translated version of Ghost Hunter to work, but I think you may have mentioned that before too.

never knew that about the ghost hunters, lmao. ill have to try out ascII brothers, i have never been able to get that game to work. ghost hunter makes the 5th game then that i know of to work.

mapper 2 was completely fixed in those mapper fixes so all games that ran on that are now playable.

as far as crime busters are you saying you havent tried that one before? im also looking for the list i have of the mario hacks that now work but i dont know who on here really cares about mario hacks, lol.

Im still also workin on time lord but i dont want to break any other games so i got to be real careful with that.

Never tried Crime Busters. I'll have to check it out.

Let me know if Super ASCII bros works. It looks pretty good.

Let me know what other Mario hacks work too. We've added quite a few. If they're any good they'll be included.

Hope you get Time Lord working cool.gif
