My little cousin's Elite got the 2 red flashing lights and its just over a year old. His mom just bought him one of the new RE5 system's b/c she's ballin' and gave this one to me to try to fix. Well it has never been opened and still have the warranty sticker so I am wondering.

Should I do the x clamp fix(I've done literally hundreds of times and only not been able to fix a few) OR try to get 3 red flashing lights so I can send it to microsoft and hopefully get a Jasper in return?

I am 99% sure it is fixable b/c it still plays for about 30 minutes before it dies, but I would really like to get a Jasper Elite if for nothing else to sell. I have like 5 xbox 360's atm so I don't need this one. They were just going to throw it away so I took it.

Anyways opinion's would be appreciated. I don't want to hear the whole fraud argument either.....I can live it and maybe that makes me bad person but I don't care and I am not going to change. This xbox 360 died only after 14 months that is unacceptable and we shouldn't have to bear the load for microsoft's inadequacies.

I won't do the Walmart Switcharoo either just b/c that might bother my conscience. If I was 16 again I would certainly do it, but I actually have money now and would care if someone else bought a broken xbox 360. I would like to know though if anyone has ever done the switcharoo successfully. I am positive it would work at walmart, kmart, costco, sams club, etc. But I can see why people would be nervous and I can see why people would think its wrong.

I have read a few threads about people getting other errors and trying to force RROD before in order to be under the warranty. I have heard ideas like wrapping the 360 in a bag/towel or putting a toothpick in the fan. I just want to know if anyone has SUCCESSFULLY done this. I also hear of people just lying and saying they have RROD when they have other issues and sending it to microsoft anyways and some say microsoft fixed it or sent a new one and some say they fixed the RROD, but still had drive errors or something.

I am really just looking for someone with experience in any of these.......not people arguing over what is right and wrong. and not crazy unfounded ideas.......

Thanks

Bahahahahah get a jasper in return from microsoft. Thats a good joke.

Sorry to be an ass, but really it wont happen. Youll be lucky if you dont get a xenon back from them... You cant give the xbox the 3 red lights, since it already has 2 and wont even turn on to play a game.

Your BEST BET, is going to be to put it on ebay and you can get about 70$ for it.. "fixing" it with any type of "fix" wont last long. Just go buy a new xbox (jasper) at the store for 200$, and once youve sold that one on ebay for 70$ your almost half way there ! smile.gif

fixing it won't last long?

I have fixed a bunch of 360's using the x clamp fix and more often than not it works and works permanently.
Sure sometimes it doesn't but I am not any where near the just selling it broken spot. If nothing else I would fix it and sell it with like a 60 warranty.

The chances of getting a Jasper back may be small, but to me it's worth it because I have another system and wouldn't mind the wait.

AND this plays for like 30 minutes before it shuts down with the 2 red lights so I could overheat it more and see. Selling it broken is no where near MY BEST BET. Plus I have access to real reflowing equipment. I can fix it for sure.

My question is fix it or try to RROD it? And if it is the latter has anyone done that before successfully?

You have a lot better chance of fixing it yourself (which you have fixed others) than getting a jasper back from xbox. Youre going to get a refurbished xbox back, not a brand new jasper (sadly).

Yeah I realize that, but what I am saying is to me it is worth the small chance. MOST of the time now you get a new box when you send it in. That used to not be the case, but they do it more and more now. My thought was they hopefully have shipped out all the older 360's and all they have left are the newer ones. Plus they built these Jaspers to save themselves money both in production cost and hopefully less returns....so it would actually be smart for them to send me a Jasper instead of an older refurbished one because most likely it will break again.

But if microsoft thought logically then they wouldn't have designed heatsinks in a way that has never been done before.

More to the point I want to know if anyone has successfully had drives error's, etc. and RROD their 360 on purpose in order to get microsoft to fix it for free.

I always want to know if any sleeze bags have ever gotten away with buying a new xbox 360 at walmart and taken the broken one back.....That's a guaranteed Jasper right there, but not worth imo......Just Curious.

The reason you're not getting your question answered is because anyone that would is also going to be looking at getting a warning/suspension or Ban. Warranty Fraud isn't tolerated on the forums, so you're not going to get an argument on what's 'right and wrong' because it's wrong, end of that right there. Either fix it yourself or wait for it to 3RL on it's own. If there's any more discussion on your part about how to force it for a free repair you will loose our account here.
