I'm running kernel version 7371 and have been trying to downgrade the kernel so I can put linux on my box and browse the web and whatnot.

I've found plenty of info on how to do this, but the most recent I have found is this http://www.xbox-scene.com/xbox1data/sep/EE...AEZoyUVvULE.php and I was wondering if this is still do-able and up to date. A lot has happened since 2007 and its something I'd like to know before attempting this o_0

Thanks for any input and for all the work that's gone into this site, I'm still exploring but definitely glad to be here.

Not possible

It doesn't matter what kernel version you have installed; what matters is how old the console itself is, and whether it's been sent for repair. If it's an old console with CB 1920 or earlier then it can be downgraded using that process. Unfortunately there's no way to check the CB version directly - you can tell after you dump the flash with an Infectus but that's a bit late smile.gif

If your console is from before HDMI was standard and has never been repaired then it's probably doable; if it's newer than that, then it's probably not. I'm not sure exactly where the cutoff was.

You realise that downgrading the kernel is not hugely useful at the moment, though? You can run Linux but not all hardware is functional, and you can get your CPU key which allows you to change the console's region, and that's about it...

Damn, I've sent mine in for repair in the last year, I didn't even think of that....

The main thing I wanna get is a web browser on my xbox, I've tried mcebrowser but the only version of windows I have is the win 7 RC, I normally use linux.

Maybe I'll just have to install xp....anyone seen any other way to browse from xbox?

wink.gif so, if my xbox meets the requirments its possible ?

* Before HDMI time (Its a release date EU xbox360)
* Not send in for repairs (Got a rrod, disapeared like snow and never came back tongue.gif )
* CB 1920 (Dont now my cb yet)
* Buy a Infectus thing (Will do, if possible)

I Do realize I cant do much when I got my cpu keys ... But willing to do my own reseach
Losing Live posibiletys will make me buy a hdmi Xbox360 anyway.

<Damm, bad english. Sorry unsure.gif >

Yea your Xbox should be fine. Buy a Cygnos360 v2 instead of Infectus 2 once it releases, it is a lot better in terms of downgrading and NAND operations
torne
Yup, that will work. You won't lose the ability to go on Live, you can use a dual NAND mod (either the Cygnus, or an xD reader hack) to have an updated and non-updated kernel available. Once you know the CPU key it's no problem to change kernel version whenever you like, because you can always re-encrypt older kernel images with a new lockdown counter value.
