If I pull the network cable while I run backups, will that keep me "safe" from being banned? And also if I buy anything off XBLA or any DLC for a game, can I still use it if banned?

It won't help any. Your running a risk of getting banned period for modding your console. Best bet is buy a second xbox for modding purposes. As for the XBL Marketplace I don't know, I don't see the point in buying additional game content unless it's a map pack.

Yes you can still use your dlc if your console gets banned, but you cannot get any new dlc
