Ok, so i got myself a version 1.0 Xbox and right off the bat I softmodded it. Next, I enabled writing to the flash by briding the 2 points on the motherboard, and finaly i installed 2 switches so I can do a multibios setup. All is good, I turn the box on and ftp over my first bios, M8plus.bin. I knew evox would simply resize the 256k bios to my needs so I set both switches to the off (not grounded) position and flash M8plus via evox. The new bios clearly flashed because i now have the evoX logo on my boot screen but after the green blob video, it just sits at a blank screen. Flip switches to bank 3 and boot with my pre-M8 bios, dash loads, flip switches to all off, try flashing 4981.06_256k.bin. The boot video changes again but i still dont load a dash. So i can still boot the box with the unchanged bios, but no matter what bios I flash, I cannot load a dash.

EDIT: I think i found the problem, I have been ftping dashboards onto shadow C and in order to access the real C partition I must reformat C (and E?). Is this correct? If I'm planning to upgrade hard drives, would this be a good time to do so?

Ok sorry for posting this thread, i solved my problem by remaking my hard drive with slayer's disk. Now i can boot using custom bios. My question is now, how do you flash a 1mb multibios in evox. I combined Evox M8 + X2 4981 + X2 4983 + iND-BiOS.5003 into one 1mb file. But when I go to flash this through evox, it gets 1/4 of the way through and stops. Is this because of the switches? How do I flash all 4 banks within the tsop? The best I can tell, it can only flash the bank which you have currently selected by your switches. so I must go through and flash each bank with a 256k bios?

if you did not use center-off switches then yes, you will have to flash each 256k bank separately

think os this as a safety net, this way a single bad flash can never hose your entire TSOP

thanks for the help. You are correct, it does work that way, too bad none of the guides state that haha. I guess the tsop can only access all 4 banks if both switches are floating? That seems odd, but then again, what do i know. I am not using center off switches so, i guess it is nice to know i cannot screw up the entire flash at once.
