I followed the x-clamp removal guide perfectly, in order to repair an RROD on an older xbox that has been sitting up in a shelf. dusting it off for my four year old.

applied epoxy, everything. Went to plug it in and let it overheat, and instead it IMMEDIETLY gave me two lights and then shuts the power down, not giving it enough time to overheat and bond.

what could I have possibly done wrong, and how can i fix a 2 ring from here? (the case is open and ready to go so...)

epoxy, well thats your problem, try thermal compund instead. Are your heatsinks touching the chips?

ha ha. i put epoxy, assuming you guys would just assume.

no no, i used a silcone based thermal compound.

followed the instructions on a vid-tut by the numbers

what could be causing the overheat light as soon as i turn the bad boy on, and why wont i get the 3ROD again?

Because the heatsinks are not properly assembled... remove them and apply them again and tighten the heatsinks better.

Play around the the pressure on the screws, either tighten them or loosen them. if that doesn't work, then just tighten and loosen up random bolts hoping that you tighten the one that is ruining the balance of the heatsink contact.
