So yesterday i was playing cod:waw because it was double xp week when i noticed that the whole screen turned into low detail. all the graphics seemed to have been turned down but when i left they were normal again. a few minutes lates it happened again but when i backed out of the game, the screen was still same. so i turned off the console but when i turned it back on, all you could see was white dots that looked kinda like sperm cells crawling around the screen against a black background. you could still hear audio however. i thought maybe the gpu was fried or something so i used a rrod repair kit i had to replace the thermal paste and i also put those screws on, but that didnt help my problem. i didnt do the part of the guide where you overheat the gpu or something like that though. i was wondering if anyone knew how to fix this problem. i also have the warranty sticker on some wax paper, so i was wondering if anyone knew a quick way to give red ring of death that will not be noticeable but fast. that is, of course, if i cant get this problem fixed. it sucks i was just waiting for the chipset to come so i could mod my 360.

well i figured out the fix. i just overheated the gpu by blocking the fan from reaching it and let the fan only cool cpu. just overheated for about 20 mins and let it cool down. it then started working. hopefully its a permanent fix.

Ok mine just did the same thing today and i fixed it in 1 hour i have the HALO 3 edition console and man was i pissed that this happened it was when i was streaming a movie to my xbox this happened

i took the sonbitch apart then took the xclamps off and heat sinks i seen that the factory thermal paste was running all over these tiny microchips near the GPU and CPU i scraped all the thermal past off with a toothpic and used a guitar pick to scrape of the reast on the GPU and CPU itself, once all gunk was off i used CHARCOAL lighter fluid with a QTIP go get all the rest of it off and make the GPU_CPU shine then i put new thermal paste back on i had around from computers it was some cheap shit from RADIOSHACK but worked
i put the heat sinks both back on and put washers only on the back of the motherboard where u put the screws
i seen that the mother board and heat sink were kinds uneven do to heat probably thats why i used washers to pull it back down

it worked for me maybe not others hope this helps if it works

PS... Not sure if it was a good idea to use CHARCOAL fluid but that shit will clean just about anything ...
