My Xbox 360 console recently got the audio with no video error. The screen started to turn light green (common), then it just was black. I tested it several times with no luck. The best I got was tiny white lines flashing at the beginning.

So realizing my warranty was expired and M$ would not fix it for free, I tried to force the RROD. I covered the back fan only (not the side ones) with a pair of pants for about 2 hours making the console very hot (obviously). I then was going to move the console to a different room, as it was becoming very loud, and I decided to test it again in the other room on a different TV.

I plugged it in and it worked perfectly go figure. I then plugged it in to the original TV it was plugged into and it worked also.

So I'm asking that, is this just a fluke or did overheating it for 2 hours do the trick?

And if it was a fluke, is the fact that I overheated it for 2 hours going to ruin the Xbox?

You basically did the "towel trick". It will stop working again most likely.

Anyway just call up MS and tell then you have the RROD anyway, they will still repair it.

Wouldn't they notice that it does not have the RROD when it arrives. dry.gif And refuse to fix it.

And my Xbox 360 is the Halo 3 Edition, if I sent it in, would I get a Halo 3 Edition back?

I just got ones of these today to fix and it seems to be related to the gpu so Im going to heatgun it in the areas I usually do and see what happens. Another thread said they used the oven trick and it worked (but other problems will arise) so the heatgun seems logical.

EDIT
I dont know if you made it worse, from my experience, you have to have visible damage to the motherboard for the 360 to crap out completely. Ive also read from the board someone who kept doing the towel trick for at least 50+ and its still going. However the towel trick is temporary and it will probably crap out again.
