After some much needed rest I figured out the problem. Even though I spoofed my ms28 as a LiteOn it's STILL a Samsung drive in reality. I figured this out after writing LiteOn fw to the damn thing. Hopefully this helps anyone else having this idiotic problem.

So I just dumped my Liteon and spoofed my Benq. Everything is fine. Is there any reason now why I shouldnt just use my BenQ and keep the Liteon unmolested as a spare ?

Thats the old method, now JF 1.66 does everything for you.

There is no original f/w for the liteon. Once you've flashed there is no going back.

The ck3 isnt necessary. You only need a via 6421a pci card and a sata cable.

do i need a probe connected when I am using 360 xtractor? i kept getting this error "360 xtractor "No USB ports found, by default the first COM port is selected." and could not go any further, my computer does not have a COM port, which may be the problem, I extracted the key just fine with freekey, and now i just need to do the 360 xtractor stuff but am having trouble sad.gif

wow this is driving me crazy.. have modded many of the old 74 liteons and now I cannot do these 83850c.

ok my pc has the portIO driver and the VIA 6421 card disabled..

I am using either the extractor or the CK3.. I am not using the prob.. I used to solder the line on the old 74 but this is not needed I have read for the 83850c's. I am also not using the USB adaptor to the Extractor or CK3..

I cannot get past where it states put the drive into the fully open position and press ok.. once I do it... I get the message "LO83info extraction Failed!"

I am not sure what I am doing wrong I have followed the Jungle Flash PDF to the letter but I cannot get this done..

I have used every method there is to put the drive in the half open mode it used to always work on the old drives.. I then power cycle it.. my PC can see it.. but its not extracting the key after I then put it to fully eject.. I have also tried ejecting with the eject button or by pulling the drive out.. anyone got these problems and sorted them out?? what did you do??

Try using the 360 as the power supply.

I just followed the on screen insructions and got the key but nothing like this happened.

Yeah tried the xbox to power the DVD drive and it still didn't work.. bit of a weird one..

Made no difference. Just like when I powered it with the CK3 or Maximus Xtractor.

but it says 'refer to pg5' and 'page15' @ jungleflasher's user guide.. but site doesn't work..

i read somewhere "dont press the EJECT button, instead pull it out manually"

perhaps try that... for me i just did a brand new 83850c liteon drive and didnt use the 'eject' button at all
and for powering on/off i use the small power cable on the dvd drive (attached from drive to xbox)

I have tried ejecting it manually by moving the black thing across and then manually moving it out but this also doesn't work.

Also tried powering the drive by every means I can think of.. Xbox, CK3, Maximus, Home made power supply I made up. Still cant get this to work.

Might have to try another method I think. Other then Jungleflash.

I just bought a new arcade the other week with the 83850c.

I'm not sure what I did but somewhere in the erase I think I screwed something up. I erase it and it just says drive returned status 0x80 then device intro failed. I'm just using the 360 as a power source right now. I've tried using the on/off switch on the box as well as unplugging and plugging in the dvd power cable.

Not sure what I'm doing wrong but help would be greatly appreciated.

from the xbox 360 drive DB, it seems i am most likely to get a Lite-On.

There is a old Lite-On and a new Lite-On? How do you tell which one you got?

Thats normal. You just have to keep trying and youll get it. Or youre doing something wrong.
When the dots appear youre supposed to remove the power cable and put it back in lss than 1 second.
your timing is crucial. If everything fails go DOS.

Alright. I'm convinced I'm doing the timing right and I've done it multiple times only to get the same results.

What do you mean by use DOS? I haven't messed with much besides JF. I tried using the l-o-eras, I don't think I really did anything with that and only got the FF80 from that.

Also is there any way I could just spoof the firmware to my hitachi drive I have lying around?

Hello, I have searched around and cannot find an answer to my problem, hoping someone here can help. I have the liteon 83850. I had it hooked up and recognized by JF, while i was plugging and unplugging my drive, JF now doesnt see my liteon, and my xbox is flashing a green light. I have read that this means its in vendor mode? How do i get my key from it? Im afraid without a gui interface, im not much good at this. Could i put dosflash16 on a floppy and boot to that and somehow "reset" my drive, and try again with JF?

Hi. having a problem trying to flash a new liteon. I was able to do a 8385c FW liteon this morning no problem. Used the exact same method with a 2nd one and i keep getting an error when trying to extract the firmware.

It recognises the drive, i click LO83info button and use the tray half open trick. Click ok and then it asks to open the tray fully which i do. Clicked OK then it thinks for a bit and gives me a "LO83info extraction Failed!" error (log below).

any advice? unsure what it could be. Using the latest version of JF, VIA card for sata and xtractor connectivity kit to power. It worked on the previous xbox but now im having this problem.

LO83info extraction Failed!

I'm having the same problem. Experienced with modding all drive types, have had no problems with LiteOns and have flashed a 83850c with no problems. But now one with the 0's and failed at the same spot.

You need to power cycle the drive in between when going from half to open tray. Make sure to read the JF instructions and follow them to the tee and you won't have any issues.

Basically, open with half tray, power cycle, click ok, open full tray, click ok, open/close to half tray again, power cycle again, click ok, open to full tray again, click ok.

If you do that, it should extract the key just fine.

Is there a step by step guide on how to flash the 83850c? I can't seem to find one that covers all steps. I don't really know what to do in terms of connecting it to the computer and powering it up. Then it would be nice if the guide continued.

I also have a manufactured in August drive, so I'm not even sure if it will work.

I also see on the Jungleflasher page on 360Mods that it doesn't work in 64-bit Windows. Is that true?

I have a Intel G31PR mobo and according to Wikipedia it has a ICH7 southbridge...I have successfully flashed Samsung and Hitachis but does my mobo support Liteons??

I am from the Poland and this is the text from the translator. I have the quite atypical problem. Namely was I reading the key Liteona 8385 the programme JungleFlasher 0.1.66beta and was I using power supply the console. I tried first to read the key single - time switching off reinforcing from the drive in the moment of closing and connecting him to the computer and then hand closing and opening klapki, but it was not successful to read the key.
I then already switched off power supply 2 some read times and key oneself, I hope that good, but there is no certainty to puki here he will not test him in some drive. But drive and console oddly behave now, namely the diode Power winks the whole time after the inclusion the console and he opens the drive alone if I try him to close this is closes on the moment and again opens. ahhh dog crap. i got a new xbox elite, cracked it open, and without thinking, started probing the crap out of it to get the key (as I've done with many xboxs before).

of course jungleflasher (1.62, old version) kept telling me bad serial data. when i go to update jungleflasher, i see 8353c drive support. i realize thats the drive i have. then i see that theres a new way to flash it, and that using the probe can DAMAGE THE DRIVE.

how can i tell if ive damaged the drive? i used a homemade usb xtractor. i suppose i should just go ahead and try the next step of trying to flash it properly, and see if its damaged from there. i just wanna make sure that i dont damage it further.

any thoughts? anyone had experience like this?

same question as the dude above above(lol). is there a way to flash this in dos? I cant get windows to recognize this new liteon(I always used dos before). I tried the 6321l card and onboard sata but no luck. messing with things in windows always seemed rather risky(random freeze=bricking stuff).

I have a 7-7-2009 MFR date with the 83850c and everything went well. I was wondering since I am new to this how long with this last before xbox bans us all? I heard there is a new console update coming out this month to inter grade facebook and such. Will there be more firmware updates and such? How will xbox detect our firmware upgrade in the future? Ok so I am attempting to flash my lite-on 83850c drive with jungleflasher. I am using my XBOX 360 to power the drive and connecting it directly to my onboard sata, which is compatible. I am experiencing the Extract no.2 doesn't match! Aborting! LO83info extraction Failed! error. The problem is when i try to close the drive halfway the second time my computer crashes to blue screen when i remove the power cable from the drive. However the lines of code comes up and i get the "in dedication string" message. I just can't get any further than this because of my computer. Does any one know how to fix this problem?

Not too sure what your issue is but I can almost assure you less than $30 towards a via sata 6421 pci card will help you get that modded.

i'm having trouble flashing my 83850c (june,2009 dated so not the new one)
i'm using nforce + ck3 pro
its not my hardware as i've flashed other liteons and benqs

i've tried every combination possible:
open tray, close + turn off half way, turn on
open, turn off, close, turn on
using the eject button or using my hand
tray 2", 3", 4" etc. open
i've tried booting the PC with the connect kit on
i've tried doing the half open bit before clicking L083info

but i'm getting the same problem every time

when i open it fully and press ok, it instantly fails


but from what i can tell, its grabbed everything
i have once got it to get to the second stage but it failed on that

does anyone have a definite way to get it to work ?

exactly how can you tell if the drive is properly dumped? I just did 2 of these. everything went smooth but I still dont know if I wanna flash it yet. dump process is clean and I am pretty much ready to flash.

should I just get a samsung drive from ebay and test these out on that first?

Im having troubles with a dg-16d2s-09c. It wont dump the key etc.. with JF 1.66 over and over get the message: LO83info extraction Failed!

Tried with intel sata chipset and with via but no succes.

Did a 83850C already with no problems.

Whats the date on the drive? Sounds like you got one of the bad ones that we are unable to currently read.

July 2009...

Most july ones can be flashed. The ones that can't do give you the "LO83info extraction Failed! " message. Seeing as that is the message you got and seeing as you have previously done one succsefully it must be one that cannot currntly be hacked.

All you can do is hope the MS left us yet another hole and hope the c4eva and friends find it.
