Being a modder I run into plenty of systems where people try to mod their own and lose their key, or pickup a cheap used system with a lost key...
so my question is... whats the best way to get the key off the motherboard... will the new Cygnos360 V2 have that capability?
any help is appreciated

theres no way yet. But if you have dash version below 8XXX then there might be hope in a few weeks/months when the new hack is released and has had time to be developed.
Just keep checking the main page every few days and it should be reported soonish hopefully.

anyone know what chip its stored on? I have a hot air rework station and would be willing to pull a chip and hook it up to a programmer to get it.... I have 2 systems non hdmi that are running the old dash that I would love to get going...
ya if the new "hack" helps with this... then I got 2 test dummies lol

Keys are encrypted with the cpu key, which can only currently be gotten with a working dvd drive and king kong exploit.
New hack will give you another way to get cpu key with out dvd drive when its been released fully.

thats kinda redonculouse.... i mean... u want the dvd key but you need a working dvd drive to get it? lol
what about that infectious chip... thought u could with that... or was that just a maybe thing?.... i dunno.... havnt fallowed this part of the scene for awhile

infectious just lets you reprogram the nad chip, But to be able to do that you need the cpu key aswell. Which currently can only be gotten with a working dvd drive, exploitable dash and king kong game.
Thats a dumbed down explanation.
New hack should change this.
If you had asked this 2 weeks ago the answer would of been no theres no hope for your xboxs but now with the new hack coming out there might just be a chance if what the devs of it say are true.
Just keep checking back or have a read up on the details so far, "Jtag hack"
Till its released make sure you keep the oldest version of dash that you can on the xboxs. But anything under 8XXX should work so they say.

Just wait intill its been released before buying anything, Might be able to use a XD card as a 2nd bios instead of having to buy a cygnos v2.

Just wondering if any progress has been made pulling a drive key off the motherboard. I got an xbox for $35 that someone tried to mod and didn't back up their drive key. Right now it's a media center extender but it would be nice if I could get it to play games again.

Find out what motherboard it is, and look up the jtag hack for it. As long as it doesn't have the august 09 dashboard update or newer, you should be able to salvage the dvd key off it through usage of xell

What number is the aug 09 update? Is that the one with the NXE? Cause this one has that. Dashboard version is 2.0.7371.0

Sorry for the double post, but if you've got anything 849X or lower, you're good to go for the jtag hack (just don't update it)

I know how to solder, but it looks like an extremely complex process. Is there a guide for n00bs? I have tried reading up on at at free60.org but I'm pretty lost.
Also, will I need a 32bit OS to do all of this? I am using Win 7 x64 and it's been a pain for flashing drives.

Use something like this to find out what model board you have:
http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x127/MR...r/XboxPower.jpgAnd search the forums here to find a tutorial like this one (for the xenon board)
http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?sho...690493&st=0Most of the boards all have different solder procedures, so if you don't have specifically a xenon board, DO NOT USE the above tutorial. They're all available here on the forums.

Only from the dvd drive itself. Try using jungleflasher or dosflash to get it back. Here's the guide for JF:

For those who are trying to recover DVD keys from the motherboard.
Retrieve lost DVD key and also check out
Reading out NAND. Both spots explain in great detail on how to get the dvd key using jtag and lpt. I bought a 25pin d sub connector, some 22 gauge wire, 1/2 watt 100ohm resistors, a package of switching diodes, and some 330 ohm resistors (for Xenon board) for less than $10. It's really not that hard to do.
