Hi All, since i've had so much trouble finding all the correct info needed on how to correctly backup Xbox 360 games and have them stealthed correctly - I have created my own guide on how to do so with all my findings, i just don't want others to have to search for hours on end like i've had to smile.gif

http://mod360s.com/index.php?option=com_co...8&Itemid=11

Many others have tried my guide already and are extremely happy with it - If you need to backup games here's the one and only guide you should ever need.

Please advise if there's any other useful information i could add to it smile.gif

Thanks!
mod360s
Just updated the guide with more useful info smile.gif
mod360s
Hey All - There were a few errors in the guide which i have since updated for everyone smile.gif

I have had numerous people advise all is ok now so i hope this will help those that are having troubles with Backing up Xbox 360 games using other methods available.

Let me know if there's anything else is worth mentioning in the Guide!

Thanks....

Question I have not kept up to date on 360 backup cause it allways appeared to be a hassle. But I seen a YouTube vid of a non opened 360 playing backups and a pay to learn website for doing this, is there a dreamcast type backup method out there where no modding or firmware is needed?
chessmastor
Its a scam. There is currently no way to play back-ups on a retail 360 w/o modding your firmware of the DVD drive.

Don't belive evrything you see on youtube.
mod360s
I am 99% certain that there is no way of playing backup copies of your games on the Xbox 360 Console without first having the DVD Drive Modded - I'm sure alot of other would back me on this....

YouTube is definitely ful of Scammers, i wouldn't believe 50% of what shown on most YouTube clips....

Hope that helps smile.gif

Excellent guide, the instructions worked perfectly. Thanks a lot!
mod360s
Hey Thanks - Glad you liked it and found it easy to follow biggrin.gif

The whole idea of my tutorial was to help out others like you who've had problems locating a once and for all guide to backing up/stealth verify/and burn games for the Xbox 360 Console

I've tried to make it as easy to follow as possible - so far the feedback has been great, i'm always willing to improve the guide wherever possible smile.gif

Thanks for your kind comments biggrin.gif

could it be that the Kreon Drive (SH 162D) has problems with Pio-Mode?
mod360s
Yep this is a common problem when your drive goes into PIO mode, Change the Mode to DMA within Device Manager and you should be good to go,

Also try changing IDE/SATA connections on board and see how you go.....the kreons really do not like being placed on an expansion card

Kreons have alot of problems backing up games if you enclose SATA via USB, IDE via USB is OK....

Hope this helps :0
The_Nightfly
I think my Kreon Drive is not working as it should. If I put the Disk in any our drive, it says "DVD_ROM" or DVDNG.." in windows explorer, if a put it in my kreon drive, windows explorer freezes until i put the disk out again. XBC starts ans stops after 128kb.

I'll try it in another pc, but i think the problem is the kreon drive itself.
maestro_bungle
I checked your guide cause it's been almost a year since I've backed up any games, and wanted to see if I needed different settings after upgrading. Everything looked fine, anyways, I gotta say that you put together an awesome guide. Very, very well done.

Couple quickies:
Is there an advantage to running ImgBurn through XBBC?
Is it cool if I just leave the layer break set at 1913760? I don't see a reason to change this, but it's not like it takes more than 10 sec.

Again, nice write up.
mod360s
Hey thanks alot for your feedback - really appreciate it smile.gif

Just to answer your questions....

Is there an advantage to running ImgBurn through XBBC?

No there is no advantage, more convenience than anything else, i used to always burn my images to IMGburn standalone after rip + stealth checking my image....In saying that i dont see the harm in just letting IMGburn run within XBC as it works and does a good job of it also smile.gif

Is it cool if I just leave the layer break set at 1913760? I don't see a reason to change this, but it's not like it takes more than 10 sec.

Hey there - Sorry it's been so long since ive had to use the layer break settings that i could not really answer your question. To be honest, if it works, you may aswell leave it set, though for all my rips i don't need to set anything. I think XBC looks after these settings for you....someone else may have a better answer to this question for you though...

Hope this helps biggrin.gif

Thanks,

Hey guys,
First off thanks mod360s for the great, easy to follow guide.

I've been away from the scene for a while so I wanted to check what the latest and greatest is. I've got a kreon drive running 1.0 and am ripping my own retail games for protection from crazy kids. I find that some of my games fail verification after ripping, all green until after the message "Stealth Check Passed!".

My question is if the autofix step really necessary when I know the original disc had a valid PFI, DMI, SS etc? In other words if I'm not doing anything illegal is the verify step really needed?

Thanks in advance,
Fed.
mod360s
I'm inclined to say YES it is necessary, it only does take a little while longer but the benefits are worth it, i'd not want to go on Xbox Live without stealthing my games properly just as a security measure.
mod360s
Just had someone advise me that their USB IDE enclosure would not detect in Windows Vista with another Drive installed....it would only detect the primary device and not the external, yet the external was clearly listed in Explorer.

They upgraded their copy of XMC and all was fine, i will update my guide accordingly.

This is something to look out for i guess if others are having similar issues please upgrade XMC,

Hope this helps...

I just recently bought an IDE Kreon drive to make backups

I have heard 50/50 say do not run abgx and autofix your rips when using kreon drive, and others like your tutorial say to do it

So what is the current way to make backups? Do i patch with abgx? People are saying not too as the info from your rip should be better than anything online.

I tried to backup my guitar hero world tour, see below and please advise if i should let abgx fix it
I want to be safe when using my own backups online
thanks

If you've made a properly ripped game via Kreon, there would be no need to run it through ABGX, except to fix a bad angle value if one were present.

If you do run it through ABGX chances are good you will get errors. That's because your info doesn't match the ABGX database... which is fine. Their database doesn't contain info for every different copy of the same game.

You don't want to repair stealth info from your Kreon rip with info from ABGX. You ripped the game yourself... you know the data is good.

If you do run it through ABGX, don't use Autofix for the ss, dmi, pfi, or video.
mod360s
Hey there - It's always a good idea to run your image through abgx360 to verify and make sure you'll be OK on live. I've never had any problems with any of my backups when running it through abgx360 with autofix level 3 set to enabled.

I have also backed up the game in question you have without any issues whatsoever.

As it is not finding a patch file from the local or online database i don't see any reason why not to just burn the image onto disk now?

Others maybe able to give you a bit more insight.

I would ALWAYS use abgx360 for game backups though...

thanks for the reply,, so even though i am backing up my own games, i should always run them thru abgx with autofix level 3 and allow it to patch every game, this should assist with not being banned
mod360s
Well it's more another level of security measure for me - I have always done this, and will continue doing so. As it only takes a couple of seconds to stealth verify i don't see what the hassle would be...

Just my 2c

cheers smile.gif

I appreciate all your work and tutorials and its not that its a hassel. I just want to make sure that when patching it with abgx from online database isn't screwing me in the long run and getting me banned thats all

cheers

It's probably safer for you in the long run by a long shot - Another security measure is always welcome!

Another Problem some of my viewers have had.....

It seems a few people are having problems burning to disk where imgburn will fail at 50%, the sure way to correct this problem is to use GOOD media, once i advised these people to use some quality Verbatim Disks all their problems went away and the disk burnt without any issue at all.

This goes to show that a few burners out there can be a little picky as to what media it likes to use, burn with caution if you are experiencing similar issues, you'll create toasters unnecessarily if you don't purchase the RIGHT MEDIA..

Hope this helps, i'll always update this thread when more fixes come in.....

Thanks biggrin.gif

your guide is wrong, you do NOT use autofix level 3 on your own rips! Using autofix level 3 patches your iso to match a totally different rip, making your own rip no longer 'unique'. You use autofix level 2 on your own retail rips. And if you have a decent burner, it's been recognized that burning at 4x is the 'sweet spot' when using verbatim dvd+r dl.
wulfie
and you CAN use sata kreon drives as well as IDE. You can also use an 'addon' card for the drive, I have my ide kreon connected to an ide addon card and it works perfectly. I know several others that are doing the same. I think you need to get your facts straight before posting a guide.
mod360s
I've know several people who've had troubles using a SATA KREON Drive connected to a SATA Addon PCI Card, when i advised these people to connect directly to their MOBO all is well....IDE is different as IDE Kreons in an enclosure works well while SATA kreons in an enclosure not so well (been proven on many board already)...

I, along with many others have been using this guide to rip my own games for well over a year now with NO negative side effects, it has been recommended to use autofix level 3 several times before, none of us have had problems with Live, or being banned etc etc...

I will take your post into consideration....

Telling me to get my facts straight about a guide which has been useful for more than a "few" people - don't really have a comment for that....
wulfie
autofix level 3 patches YOUR iso with a totally different iso from the abgx360 database, as long as that game IS in the database, which makes ripping your own totally pointless.

mod360s-

Thanks for the guide. I am new to this and found it to be very comprehensive and written in a way to not be intimidating. I have 3 kids that love playing the xbox and need to preserve the discs as much as possible since they lack any respect whatsoever for my crap! Do you mind if I contact you directly through your site for advice in the future? Either way, thanks again!
mod360s
Thanks alot for your feedback, i'm glad the guide is helping alot of people out smile.gif

No worries at all, please contact me if you have any troubles, or post back in this thread as i check it regularly smile.gif

A common problem that i've run into with few users who were having problems ripping/burning was that they did not have FULL ADMINISTRATIVE RIGHTS to their PC. Definitely something to look out for, i didn't actually think of this but i've fixed alot of ripping/burning problems by letting the people know to logon as admin.

Just another helpful tip for those who are having issues smile.gif

Thanks!

Hey people, i made a few adjustments to my guide after a few little quirks others were having, namely the autofix level for creating your backups. I've also updated the version of Abgx360 and Xbox backup creator software for everyone to use. Hope this guide keeps coming in handy for you all smile.gif

Every thing looks fine but there's one step missing and that's the first step flashing your drive with the right firmware to backup your 360 games using Xbox Backup Creator I just found out that you need the drive flash with IXtreme 0800 I'm using the Benq VAD6038 to flash the drive would I use Jungle Flasher like I would flashing the drive with IXtreme 1.6 or do I need some special tool to do so ? thanks

Doesn't imgburn have a different layerbreak set as default than the one needed for xbox360 games? So wouldn't it be wise to include a step that changes the default layerbreak in imgburn to the one that original games have?

I'm not 100% sure about this, which is why I'm asking...I have heard ppl say you need to set a correct layerbreak.

Don't for get the 1913760 number too hope this helps, just trying to making the how-to better he did a good job on his little site keep up the good work. O don't for get to add 4x is the 'sweet spot' when using verbatim DVD +R DL. Tip about buring a disc something I Learn in my School %100 on that Exam the dvd heats up to 400F to 600F or more on some CD's and DVD's you can cook a turkey with that heat lol muhaha.gif
mod360s
Thanks for your advise,

To be honest i have never needed to set the layerbreak to: 1913760 within IMGBURN, never, and i am pretty confident that my customers who use this guide would be complaining more if this step needed to be taken?

Is this only necessary for some games, because i've never needed to set this option, maybe opening imgburn from within XBC sets this option by default for you?

Thanks for the 4x Tip i will definitely add this to my list, i was using another brand of media the other day and burned at 2x and it didn't read in the 360, burned again with the same media at 4x and works flawlessly smile.gif

Sorry the guide assumes you already have flashed your Xbox 360 Drive with Kreon firmware, or have already purchased a Kreon drive for use with my guide...

Please let me know if there's some other pointers i should worth mention as it's for you guys afterall smile.gif

Quick update on layerbreak - it doesn't need to be set if you use imgburn through Xbox Backup Creator because XBC will set it to optimal settings within the app itself smile.gif

When used through XBCr do not set the layerbreak to manual, XBCr will manage this for you. In Tools/Settings/Write/Options Layerbreak should be “Calculate Optimal”.

Hope this helps...

Also worth noting that media plays a big part in a successful write and one that doesnt work!
mod360s
Also would like to know if people are having problems running an IDE External Drive USB Enclosure in Windows 7??? They don't don't seem to pair very well with one another....

Thanks
