I've just turned on an old 360 with a faulty DVD Drive that was kicking around my room.
Its a Xenon and the kernel is 2.0.6770.0 would this be suitable for flashing the Nand?

7371 is 2008 fall update (the last one before summer 2009 which is the one that "fixes" jtag exploit), so long as it wasn't recently purchased, recently sent in for repair, or updated using summer 2009 update or preview (yours wasn't as summer 2009 is 849x) it should still be fine - the only way to tell with any certainty though is to actually dump your nand and check the CB version as kernel version displayed in dash does not tell you the required info at all.
