Decided to purchase a Wii, and am planning to mod it so I can play my games on the hard drive. This is necessary so when the my nephews come over to play they will not scratch my games.

Anyway, my question is what are the benefits to installing a mod chip compared to Softmod. The main feature I would like is to be able to install the games on an external hard drive. Similar to how I would put my games on my Xbox with DVD2Xbox. Stick it in the drive, and press the button.

Thanks!

If you just want to put games on your harddrive, then just softmod.

All you really need to do it is

Bannerbomb
Homebrew channel
WadManager 1.5
Preloader with hack.ini for your system menu
USBLoader GX

You probably need a few other tools, thats all I can think of off the top of my head, thats how I modded my buddy's wii.

Thanks for your reply! What about future updates? When I installed a chip on my Xbox, I never had to mess with it again. With the Wii being hooked up to the internet, will it ever update by itself without me knowing? Or will a game disc do an update without my knowledge? I heard stories of people who did a soft mod, and then got an updats and it no longer worked. Would the same thing happen with a chip installed?

Thanks again!
