For use with the new free60 hack on Xenon based xbox360's... This version of snes9x add's sound and wireless controller support! Thanks to snes9x-gx and tmbinc for releasing his version of the source. The program looks for a static filename - SNES9X.SMC
Only currently running on the xenon xell hack. Support for other chipsets are in the works!

libxenon now got support for making a cpu thread run a function. It's a bit rudimentary, but especially for emulators and games this approach should be "good enough".
Also I've added support to switch cpu frequency. That means that we can use all 6 threads at 3.2ghz now. The code is rather complex, and might not work perfectly, but results have been pretty nice here (finally no frame drops in snes9x, even with sound).
Simply call "xenon_make_it_faster(XENON_SPEED_FULL);" and it will switch to full speed.
Excellent!

Awsome. Not so awsome I updated the day before the warning was given not to update. Oh well. Maybe in the future they'll work something out for the many people that updated like I did.
Really awsome though about the snes emulator. Can't believe this came about so quick! Like 2 weeks ago it was no sound and no wireless support! Whoever does this is amazing!

Try different formatting, I know my kingston 2G datatraveler when formatted with windows will not show up in normal 360 dash (or for that matter on anything that isn't windows including xbmc, ps2sms, samsung tv usb input etc), but given the right format params under linux there are no problems whatsoever.

is anyone else getting a clicking noise when running this?? I know it's all new but damn is it annoying ..
wireless works 360 doesn't indicate a controller attached and controller just blinks like it's not connected but it is and works fine.

This is seriously becoming a very interesting topic indeed.
I've resisted all urges so far to do anything to my beloved 360, unlike my xbox 1 which was modded to buggery.
Just want to say many thanks for all the hard work that you guys are putting into free60 and associated apps, and like many others, am waiting with baited breath for that first glimpse of something that resembles xbmc.

The addition of sound and wireless support is great news, I'll be checking this out later

. I've been really enjoying messing around with the new 360 hacks. So far I've changed my region code/DVD key and messed around with Linux and the Snes emu. I hope we see a lot more stuff like this in the coming months

Man, it is so great to see updates like this every couple days. Big props to the guys who are making homebrew on the 360 finally happen.
My 360 has been offline to prevent the update since I heard about these developments. Like several others, I haven't posted here in years, but this has me paying attention to the "scene" again. I am eagerly awaiting the day I can finally retire my original Xbox as my primary media center and start playing HD h.264 video under XBMC on my 360. Keep up the good work guys!

Not trying to piss anyone off, but this JTAG hack or whatever it is called and what relates to it is probably the only interesting thing I've seen in years. I find myself checking xbox-scene several times a day now, like in the good old days with the original Xbox. Before this hack it was all about: "Microsoft says this and that bullshit, Xbox360 outsells ps3 on X market and so on and so forth".
But NOW... Yippie!!

nice to see this type of development. i wonder if this in in HV mode or not. i am patiently waiting for unsigned xexs' then we can remove those awful ping limiters and use our consoles on XBC or kai . i cant wait to get back on xbc

live is fun, but xbc was great for custom and modded game types.

Yeah... common sense would tell you that if there is no hacking news to speak of, they have to fill th efront page with related news right??
So, since this was just discovered a month ago, of course we will be seeing it more often.
Ill tell you what, to find out that htey have full sound and wireless support makes me giddy. This is a start to an awesome homebrew scene with less idiots then Xbox 1 because it will take more know how to pyll this off.
And did I see USB HDD support in there also? is there a limit?
If not, Im going to be one happy f**ker when I can move all emulators from my Xbox 1 to a USB drive

Thanks to all envolved.
The dvd drive firmware was a good start, but I want this more.
The 360, in theory (memory permitting) should be able to get emulation up to ps2/dreamcast if implemented right.
All we need now is full gpu control and possibly nand acsees through other means.
Imagine being able to boot different kernals/dashes with a USB thumb drive like PS3 does with OS's

I used Snes9x GX, i.e. the Wii/Gamecube-Port, as a base. I didn't use much of the GC-specific code, but it gave me a good idea of what functions I have to implement. I don't yet have coded a UI, but it uses the GPU for scaling, USB for input (wired controller only so far), and runs on the bare metal (i.e. no linux, no hypervisor). CPU is still running at quarter speed, but there are no dropped frames.

I haven't updated my 360 or gone online with it since August 10th. Hopefully they will be able to create a package for people that are on kernels under the latest one (besides the two that work now).
I'm so excited for all of this development and can't wait until we have taken the 360 over like we did with the original Xbox.
There are so many Japanese 360 games I want to play on an NTSC-U 360.

I understand what I'm about to write has nothing to do with the thread in question, but I'm extremely interested in trying this out, but I'm totaly clueless on how to get it going on my xenon xbox 360, here is why.
in January 09, I had my 360 hard modded with the infectus chip, along with the daugherboard that helps with the degrading. 2 problems have happend at that time. 1st, I flashed the NAND with i believe 1888, and have the RROD. 2nd, team infectus never bothered to change their newer flashmod programs to work along with the degrader, so I was unable to downgrade my 360. My PC crashed not long after that flash, and I lost my original NAND.
So, I have a xenon 360, that gives a RROD, but it has a working infectus hard modded to it.
So my question is, am I able to still use my xenon 360 with this hack?

If it won't boot, you can't use it. RROD = DEAD, fix it or get another.

If the RRoD was a result of the bad flash then yes - you can reflash the NAND with the xenon-xell.bin file on xbins. You won't ever be able to use it as a retail 360 again but I doubt you're that bothered

I wish people would only post on stuff they know about. The typical moronic knee-jerk reaction of RRoD without understanding the cause.

I just want to ask a hypothetical question about the free60 hack and Xell.
At some point if there is a hacked M$ kernel so you can play games and run homebrew, will you still need to flash the DVD drive or with the hack is flashing the DVD drive not necessary?

Almost all consoles pre 84xx should be exploitable using the new JTAG method. So basically if you didn't update this summer then you'll be able to run homebrew

For programming, it's recommended to use the 5 x 100Ohm resistors between the parallel port and the JTAG points on the motherboard. To actually run the XeLL exploit, you MUST have the 3 x 330Ohm resistors connected. If you flash the XeLL exploit and don't have the three 330Ohm resistors connected, you'll get E79

By programming, I think he means "writing to the NAND" (just how if you were to desolder a TSOP and use a programmer to read/write to it)
