I just bought a new xbox and its either a 1.2/1.3 with a w49f020t chip on it. I've bridged the flashing points, and i know I have soldered it right, checked with multimeter.
I added this entry in raincoat:
Flash = 0xda8c,"ST W49F020T",0x40000
When i try and flash it with raincoat i get this error:
DETECTED: ST W49F020T (256K)
Programming with bios256.bin...Read 262144 bytes from file
Erasing...
ERASE ERROR AT +0x0...read 0x09
Done
Error: Erase failed for block at +0x0, reads as 0x09
Could your chip be write-protected?
Completed
Is it because its a v1.3? can you not flash v1.3 xboxes?
Please help!!

make sure you use raincoat 0.5 cause new w49f020t tsop needs a diffrent way for erasing which is not supported by raincoat 0.3

ok this iskinda on the subject..... with the raincoat. I dl'ed in case i ever need it and it's not the same format at the .3. Like it doesn't seem to have the save game data or the bios or anything it looks completely different. if you could tell me why this is and/or how to use this that would be great.
thanks

Just take the 2 raicoat file's out of v5 & paste into your raincoat v3,
When asked to overwrite select YES.
(the 2 file's are : 'raincoat.conf' & 'raincoat')
don't forget to edit 'raincoat.conf' with your chip type
(Flash = 0xda8c,"ST W49F020T",0x40000)
Hope this helps.

Hi all,
sl0th, did u resolve this problem? I had a go on a 1.2. Same chip, latest raincoat from the linux site - checked soldering with a meter, and I get exactly the same error.
As far as I can tell, its recognising the chip ok BUT its trying to do a block erase when the chip does not support it, which (I thought) is exactly what raincoat 0.5 was supposed to fix.

Ahh, never mind.
I just got it to work.
I redownloaded raincoat from the linux page, and dumped the whole lot in, not just the two files mentioned above. Maybe this did it, or I botched somthing the first two times round, but it now works

That 0x09 error usually occurs due to problematic soldering - just resolder and it's usually fine. 1.2 xboxes are a bit fiddlier than their earlier models...

v1.3 TSOPs are write protected, you will not be able to flash them unless you replace the entire chip
v1.2s can be flashed

ye... use telnet...
but to get the file on the xbox you need-
memorycard with it on it (from modded xbox normally)
or
linux way
or
install a modchip (like matrix, install evox, ftp savegame over)
ounce u got the file on the xbox, use windows and use telnet-
5. open dos prompt type :telnet 192.168.0.64
6. username: root
7. password: xbox
8. type cd ../../media/E/UDATA/4541000d/000000000000/raincoat
9. type ./raincoat -p bios.bin
10. finished

You don't have to learn Linux!
All you do is boot the save-game up, once it's loaded run Telnet on the PC (running whatever version of Windows you want, even the abysmal XP) and type in the following:-
| CODE |
root xbox cd /media/E/UDATA/4541000d/000000000000/raincoat ./raincoat -p bios.bin |
You don't have to understand what it's doing, you just type it in.

Do you REALLY trust EvolutionX to flash your TSOP without hanging? Having to hot-swap a mod that it's blanked is bad enough!
Anybody managed to get XFlash to work under 007:AUF?

use the 007 trick with the Evo-X install instead of raincoat. It is a ton easier.

Hi smokeit, and everyine else,
could you please tell me or confirm to me if the tsop solder pin on xbox 1.3 is the same as the one on xbox 1.2?
if so do i use raincoat .5 to flash it?
smokeingit
Jul 12 2003, 05:29 PM
yes its the same. but i took extra percontions. like soldering 3 points but people say just the above to is enough... and you for sure need raincoat 0.5 or youll get that read only error anyways. here is my guide on the 1.3
