Full Version: Anyone Ever Try Playing The 360 On A Laptop/netbook?

My situation is this: I have my 360 game setup in my room. For whatever reason, a good deal of time is spent in the adjacent room, no more than 20 feet away.

I'm getting a netbook (possibly a laptop, but probably not) to cover basic needs while I'm here, such as e-mail, web browsing, PDF reading, text and picture editing, programming, etc.

A few years ago, I had this cheapie little portable DVD player that had a composite port that supported both in AND out, so I was able to actually play my Xbox on this tiny little 6" screen. So, it got me thinking, maybe I could expand the functionality of my new portable PC by using the screen to play games.

Right now, I'd like the 360 to remain in the other room so I don't have to keep lugging it out and switching cables every time I want to play it outside unless I get another set of power, which could be a possibility.

So, I'm looking at a wireless solution. I've seen a wireless tuner-type card that connects a video source- VGA, composite, component, whatever- to a wireless transmitter which sends the signal to a USB receiver and decoded with software going on the laptop/netbook.

Has anyone had any experiences with this? I'm looking for hardware recommendations, if you have, or what went wrong. The main thing I'm worried about is the lag between the two. A little is acceptable but more than a second will limit my game selection a bit.

Anything is possible if you have the money, but for the time being I would say its going to be a crap shoot, those devices work well, but its not going to be instant. Also you might want to think of the controller being that far away, you might have connectivity issues.

Again I am not trying to flame your idea, I am just saying that it isn't a cheap or easily viable project. If you want to go through with it, awesome.

Don't worry, there were no flames at all, aside from your signature.

I did a little more research and there seems to be two devices bred for this exact purpose-

The Slingbox Solo
and the Spawn Labs HD-720

I'm going to search around a bit, including anything on this forum. So far, the videos look quite impressive.
