Hi all,

Im new here, and recently i've run into some difficulties backing up the latest games. Previously i have had no problems burning games, and i have succesfully burned some quite new wave 3 games (Wolfenstein, Batman: Arkham Asylum), so i believe my firmware should be up to date.

But i have had trouble making succesful backups of some of the most recent games (Dirt 2, Wet, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2). I have burned them exactly as i use to - Check/Patch in ABGX, Burn with ImgBurn, through XBOX Backup Creator on Verbatim DVD+R DL discs at 2,4x speed.

But when i insert the game in the XBOX 360, it reads the disc for a little while, and then says 'Open Tray' as if there is nothing on the disc - or it doesn't recognize it.

Im pretty clueless as to what is causing this, since i have been able to play many other wave 3 backups before.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, as im fresh out of ideas (And soon DVD+R DL discs too LOL).

Thanks smile.gif

how exactly are you backing them up before you burn them?

I rip the games with XBOX Back Up Creator.

make sure you're using the latest version of XBC and it's also recommended to burn at 4x as long as you have a good burner and are using verbatims. Check your backups with abgx360 using autofix level 2, as long as all the checks pass, you should be fine to burn. Verification doesn't matter when ripping your own

I've done all that you mention except burning at 4x (i burn at 2,4x), do you think that could help?

The thing that i find mindnumblingly enigmatic is that, when i can play SOME wave 3 games, shouldn't that mean that i should be able to play ALL wave 3 games? uhh.gif

I have been using the exact same method for every backup!

Thanks for your help smile.gif

as long as you have a good burner and are using verbs, then burn at 4x, it's been proven to be the 'sweet spot'

Cool man, i will give that a shot, since i have no other options left.

Wish me luck! pop.gif

Wow! Burning at 4x speed actually did the trick. I have now burned a working backup of Need For Speed: Shift! Hope it will work with the others too.

I can not thank you enough for helping me out, i was just about to lose all hope in solving this.

Thank you so much! love.gif

Im having the same problem as OP, trying out the 4x 'sweet spot' and will post results for anyone else experiencing this.

UPDATE:

This also worked for me, backups that didnt previously work at 2.4x now work with 4x. Thanks @Wulfie

Well my latest attempt at backing up 'Wet' failed again in the same manner, even though i burned at 4x :S

Im starting to suspect my burner, or my batch of DVD+DL's to be the problem here dry.gif

I've also been noticing that ImgBurn comes up with the following error message in the log, when the burn is just about to finish:

QUOTE

18:13:37 Potential 'WaitImmediateIO' Deferred Error - (0%, 0/3) - Program Memory Area Update Failure
18:13:37 Close Track Failed! - Reason: Program Memory Area Update Failure
18:13:37 Retrying (1 of 3)...

18:14:00 Potential 'WaitImmediateIO' Deferred Error - (0%, 0/3) - Program Memory Area Update Failure
18:14:00 Finalise Disc Failed! - Reason: Program Memory Area Update Failure
18:14:00 Retrying (1 of 3)...

But it says 'Write Completed' afterwards though, so i don't know how 'serious' this error is to be taken.

Any ideas? ...

Well i've discovered that it doesn't matter if i backup new or old games anyways. I tried backing up Call of Duty 4 last night, and the 1st attempt failed, and the second succeeded - so it must be down to bad media or my burner almost 100%

ImgBurn reported this error:

QUOTE
Set LO Data Zone Capacity Failed!

Reason: Program Memory Area Update Failure

Hopefully someone knows what this could be caused by?

Thanks smile.gif

By any chance are you using a LiteOn or Samsung burner? This is an inherent problem with those burners. Alternatively it could be your media. Are you using Verbatim? If not, try that first. If it still doesn't burn then it's definately your burner.

I think it's an LG burner, the name in XBOX Backup Creator is 'hl-dt-st dvdram gsa-t40 jt03'

Yes im using Verbatim, but it's another 'model' than i used to use, since it has a printable front.

Can you recommend any external USB burner, since im on a Laptop?

Thanks smile.gif

get a pioneer 118blk and an external enclosure. shouldn't run you more than $45-50 tops

Totally agree. With a pioneer drive and verbatim dvds you will never go wrong. I've had this setup since starting out and have done about 20 backups and never had one single problem.

Thanks guys,

I will first try to get a new batch of Verbatims (The old ones i used with no problems)

If that doesn't work, i will look into getting a new Pioneer burner as you recommended.

Thanks for all your help, it's greatly appreciated! smile.gif

I just borrowed an external burner, and succesfully burned a game. Im now quite optimistic that my old burner is the problem here, but i will have to backup a couple of more succesful games to be 100% sure.

But i didn't get any finalizing discs errors or nothing like i was getting lately with my old burner, so i believe im on the right track.

I'll keep you posted! smile.gif
h666llraiser
I've burned 3-4 more games with the external burner i borrowed with no problems, so i think it's pretty safe by now to say that my old burner is the problem.

Thanks for all your help smile.gif
