Free60 JTAG/SMC XeLL Hack for Zephyr Motherboards
Posted by XanTium | October 6 15:20 EST | News Category: Xbox360

After the release of the hack for Xenon and Falcon motherboards, today we get the Free60 JTAG/SMC XeLL Hack for Zephyr (v2) motherboards! This NAND image will boot your Zephyr Xbox360 right into XeLL (which allows you to launch linux distros or run libxenon homebrew software).

From the readme/nfo:

Finally the Zephyr JTAG Hack is here :)
This is XELL (compiled 11.09.09) inserted into 4558 Zephyr-Kernel.
!Fixed Version! USB Support was broken

Don't wonder about the Filesize, its correct like that. It just flashes the beginning of the NAND so your console specific data like MAC adress will stay.

Of course you should have a working backup of your NAND before you proceed.

Just flash with:
LPT
nandpro lpt: -w16 zephyr_hack_updxell.bin 0
USB
nandpro usb: -w16 zephyr_hack_updxell.bin 0

wow that was quick, now pretty much everybody can run this stuff.. sweet deal.

hopefully now since a lot more people can run this.. the Linux side will be complete sound/gpu accelerated graphics etc.

they already have core gpu functionality and now rudimentary sound support just need to meld them together and were golden...
this is really starting to ramp up and the possibilities are now endless, I'm excited!
JTPaintball
so does this only work in vga too?
sektor1062
now they just have to get past the most recent updates fix. Then i'll buy a dual kernel mod and be on my way to an HD XBMC. Hope they're working on 1 or both

ATM I just really want this for the Jasper!

But I hear ya, its more fun when everyone's onboard
fargo_sWe
Running XBMC on 360 is a wet dream...

and XBMC
in a 160€ box.

wow!

Amazing!

Does anyone know if this could possibly lead to a break for people that don't have the keys from a busted DVD drive?
irishwhip
now that this hack is open to a much wider audience, i hope the busted install scripts on free60 get fixed.
Currently only the debian etch script still works.

Yes you can retrieve your DVD key by running the exploit and doing a bit of work.

but it would be hard to find an original copy of king kong, or is that only for the linux part?
red_ring_of_box
I don't think you need king kong anymore dude seeing as it wont work with Xell anyway, but I think they have linux cd's that will work with it now.
Grim187
xell gives you your cpu key when it boots, so all thats needed for dvdkey recovery is your original nand, xell booting on the motherboard and 360 flash tool to read out your dvdkey.
Mr.RedRing
So only Opus and Jasper boards left right? This is awesome!

Opus is already done (was in the falcon rls).

Even better smile.gif

Now we are just waiting on one system.

If I were to go buy a new system from the store, will it have the dash that kills the hack yet?

A friend bought a brand new 360 from Very.co.uk (used to be Littlewoods) last week that was a full year old wasn't even a Jasper!!! So you could still be lucky

luther349
we my friends are looking at a first gen mod chip smile.gif funny thing is a couple years ago i said there should be a way to hijack the kernel and use your own when the very first hack came out.

this im happy for being it will enable homebrew.
X-hacker
Do these require a VGA cable again?

Great work as well guys. About time the 360 was reversed. It might actually boost sales a bit for them
Misterturtle
I'm kinda out of the hacking loop so sorry if this is a noob question but is it possible or leading to a way to ftp files like in the original xbox
niai
i would say ftp will come and it will be 1 of the 1st things to come
masterluke
we already have ftp via running linux.. we also have tftp where you can run a program sent to the box over the network via xell.

The Xell hack are rolling in fast , when i saw the falcon hack , i never imagine the Zephyr would be coming out this fast.. pop.gif pop.gif cool.gif beerchug.gif gift.gif

Is there a way to downgrade my kernel because its 7371 but it was made in 07-21-07 and its a zephyr board. I know you can for the xenon http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=690493 but is that for the zephyr board also?
niai
heres nothing bout downgrading in that topic

i dont know what you mean
JTPaintball
so is it possible? http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?sho...amp;mode=linear
niai
ok sorry it was late when i posted that i seen 2009 not 2007 and yes it is pssable to run the new xell hack on that board

just look up the xenon and use that one to make the ltp cable to read the nand and use this jtag points in this topic

your not trying to downgrade your trying to run a custom kernel
JTPaintball
Alright thanks man ill try that and see how everything works out biggrin.gif
JTPaintball
o BTW is there anyway in running XeLL and playing games/xboxlive after I do this?
niai
yes look up bout the rebooter but live would be very risky and if you want homebrew i think your going to have to kiss live good bye
JTPaintball
dang well alright sad.gif
lovejelly
Hi all biggrin.gif

New to the forums, what type of diodes do i need for the red and yellow wires?

Many thanks
niai
any would work i would say

dont quote me on this but even a led(light emitting diode) would work i would say
(wouldnt try it though)

Hi, I am having a problem reading the flash. I read the flash 6 times and everytime is identical. The dump looks like it was successful, no errors. However neither the 360 flash tool nor degraded can read the flash. My xbox is a Zephyr and I am using dashboard 7xxx. I tried changing the beginning of the dump in an hex editor so that the microsoft copyright dates say till 2005/2007 instead of 2009 but it didn't make a difference. (I read on another forum that that would work.) Anyone know what's going on? I really want to get the DVD key off this. The person I bought it from lost the key.
shawnmos
I flashed the zephyr_hack_updxell.bin and the xbox won't boot. I get error code 0020 or 0022. However, when I flash it back to the original bin it boots. blink.gif
niai
did you keep the jtag points on the board (the place where you bridged the points 2 of them with diods)
shawnmos
Yes. Do those need to be removed?

Ok, I removed them. Still getting error 0022.
niai
np you need to keeep them in some people remove them thinking thy are just needed to read/write the nand but there there to trigger the exploit

you shore you have a zephyr?
shawnmos
Yes, it's the zephyr. Is there anything special i need to do to the zephyr_hack_updxell.bin?
niai
no just flash the file to the xbox as it is

try re-soldering the lpt cable maybe the writing part is messed up
shawnmos
Just resoldered and it's still not working. RROD error 0020. I was able to get a Xenon board to work fine. Not sure what's wrong with this one. DB1F1 did get messed up though. I scraped it down and was able to attach it, so that's probably not it.
