Hi, I'm new here and I have a question about the xbox360's HDD.

For a while now, I've been creating custom skins for DOA Ultimate on the old xbox. I want to do the same for DOA4 but not quite ready to install a mod chip or whatever, yet...

Anyways, now that games can be installed to the 360's HDD and knowing how simple it is to read a 360's HDD, I was wondering if I could brows the HDD for the DOA4 data files and edit the costumes like that(instead of burning a new dvd of the game and modding my console)

My guess is that when a game is installed to the HDD and played off of it, the only reason the game disk is required is so the console knows you actually own it. Am I close?

Now my concern is(assuming this can be done), can Microsoft find out about the custom skins and ban my console even if I don't play DOA4 online?

Any help on the this would be great, I don't want to take apart my HDD until I have a reason to do it.

the xbox360 is not really hacked in that since. the data is copied to the hard drive and signed to the console and gamertag. it is a bunch of compressed files and any attempt to modify any of them will break the signature causing the game not to run.

Ah, I see. That makes sense, well thanks for the advice. I guess when my warranty expires (end of this year) I guess I'll just give in and mod my console lol.

Ya know, I'm having a though here... In the world of Wii hacking, there is a tool (Trucha Signer) to re-sign the the ISO's before burning or installing back to a HDD. Could a tool like this be made for the 360's HDD game data? I know its probably not that simple, but it would be nice.

I am not the best with the specifics on the encryption used for the 360 but M$ has done there homewaork on this and it has a better security system than the wii for sure.
