Hey guys,

I am currently planning on modding my XBox ROL to use blue SMD's. I have a few questions though.

1. I noticed that all the threads I see have them mounted sideways. What will happen if I were to solder them to the surface (Facing up)?

2. I purchased the 380cmd ones off of uniqueLEDs, how bright will these be? Which side is negative and which is positive (Judging from the provided picture of their site, their is no indication)?

3. If I were to mount positive to negative and negative to positive, will the SMD blow? How will I know if I blow an SMD vs soldering it reversed?

Hopefully you guys can help me. Thanks!

I have mine facing up and they look good.
they will not blow if you solder them in backwards they just will not turn on.

this is for 0603 smd's i dont know if there the same or not.

Now I see that green dot on one of the terminals so would I take that as the positive side?

I test my smd's with my multimeter, its the diode tester mode, and lights up when i put the positive and negative on the right sides. You could also test them with a battery.

Awesome, thanks! I think my uncle should have one that we can borrow, so I can find out what the right sides are.

Thanks guys! Really helped out a lot.

I thought it would be easier to bring this one back up instead of starting a new thread.

Prior to installing the LEDs, is there anything else I would need to install? (Resistors, etc.)

My LEDs from unique-LEDs haven't arrived yet. Has anyone experienced this long of a wait from them? (I ordered on October 24, 2009)

Will these same LED's (0603) work in my controllers?
niai
no you dont need to add a resister

i have never ordered from them so no idea

and yes thy will work in the controller as well

From what I know of unique they're usually fast shippers in the US. Might be worth emailing them.

Oh okay, thanks! I'll definitely test it out first too before I solder them on.
