Please see the pictures ...

Remarks: The solution is only working with PIII-S 1.4G/512K/133M ,Celeron 1.4/256K/100M doesn't work
( I think this is no problem,as PIII-s/512K is more powerful )..also this solution doesn't has a switch for 740M/1.4G, as I think right now we have the patch alreday for 1.4G, and adding a swithch will make the modification more complex ....

The reason I assume the 1.4/256/100m will not run most likely has to do with the fact that the processor will overclock because of the front bus speed difference. The processor is multiplier locked but cannot stop overclocking by front bus speed. With the xbox having a 133 front speed bus and the processor having a bus speed of 100 that processor is a more powerful of a processor than the 133 bus processor on the xbox. This is something you dont see a whole lot of on a pc because the companies making the components try to steer clear of it but the xbox happened to be one of the pioneers of a 133bus and most of the processors of that time were capped at a 100bus. If you can tweak the processor with a 100fsb to work it would push about 2ghz or so. Now if someone could find a 32 or 64mg ram chip to replace the 16mg we would really be able to get a good setup going. 2 companies make them or they were once produced I just cant locate them.

Hi,you are right ,,,,, I don't want run 1.4/256/100m is because I don't like adjust the FSB to make the modifications complex, also I don't want overclock.. I think the current 1.4/512K/133m is enough .The simpler the stabler ,,

Thats incredible! Great work trusty. Truly impressive. Those heatsinks look a bit odd but if they work who cares, right?

Damn Scotch.....that's a fatty. Does it cover both CPU and GPU?
trusty
The recommended installation (accroding to my pictures) of the CPU & GPU heatsinks:

1. CPU HeatSink: dimension: L*W*H= 72mm~80mm*60mm*25mm (the HeatSink of old P4 is similar),
two holes :dia 4mm /distance: 95mm; Screw :M3X30mm ;
2. GPU: the another side: made by a strong steel wire ;
3. Fan speed:90% .
4. my result : At least 2 days 24 hour continuing run no problem..

Eksyte
Hey Trusty. Have there been any updates to the patcher for the 1gb processors? You did mine almost 2 years ago and it still works, but the patcher does always fix the video/audio lag. Was hoping there might be a better version.

And Trusty's a good guy. Very trusty. biggrin.gif

does it really need a heatsink that big?

i have been running my 1ghz at 10% fan speed for the last few years
with 0 problems

and the 1.4ghz's a die shrink is it not

wow... thats pretty impressive. So i imagine that you can run most 720P videos, with some exceptions?

do original xbox games work at normal speed with this upgrade? Does this motherboard with the new processor fit in a stock xbox case without cutting stuff up? it seems that putting the fan at 90% would be a but much. Is the regular heatsink not good enough? Im really considering getting one!

There is a patch for games to work, can be downloaded here: http://www.xbox-scene.com/xbox1data/sep/EE...upkCULTbDkH.php
capboy210
hmm well the patch was made in 2005... will it work for this processor as well? im not sure if the two processors are identical.

And from my understanding if i were to boot my xbox up in a stock state with M$ original dashboard using the stock bios would the game still be playable? Just maybe a little fast? I wonder if it would function on xbox live.
pkbunghole
I have made a new patch for this processor, im just waiting to hear back from trusty if it works (or test it myself when my board arrives). if its working ill be sure to post it here smile.gif

Hi,

1.Some 720P HD videos can run full speed, some half speed,H264 HD very slowly,
2.Games still can run under 1.4G P3-S, pkbunghole had just released
a patcher for 1.4G P3-S,the test result:

Games on 1.4G XBOX with the patch from 733M to 1.4G p3-s:

Before patch After patch
-----------------------------------------------------
Burnout Revenge very fast Normal
NFS Hot Pursuit 2 Normal Normal
OutRun 2006 very fast Normal
NINJA GAIDEN Normal Normal
TORK Normal Normal

3.New CPU can still fit in the stock xbox case with two points
cutting to cope with the cooling.
4.The XBOX's original heatsink can't use (Mechinical issue),need
DIY a new one.
pkbunghole
Thanks for testing, trusty smile.gif

Patcher for 1.4Ghz can be downloaded here: http://www.mediafire.com/?vmnnzwxndnj

It doesn't need a bigger heatsink,but for mechanical installation,you
need DIY a new one,due to the total increased
height and the original plastic frame need cut to
release space for the new CPU,thus the
original CPU heatsink can't use...

The DIY CPU heatsink:
CPU HeatSink dimension: L*W*H= 72~88mm*60~64mm*25mm
( the similar HeatSink : old P4 or 1U P4 ),
two holes : dia 4mm /distance: 80mm; Screw :M4X30mm ;
two springs..

Also the fixation for the GPU heatsink need change, see the picture:

reduced,

the Realtime average speed from 2~3 fps changed to fps:23.98

I've been looking all over and soakin up what I can about the process of upgrading the CPU now I just need to know can I do the CPU removal and installation with a heatgun? is it possible? This heatgun I have can do 350 / 400 degrees... Or would i be better off having someone w/ a BGM Rework station do it for me? And get the ram while they're at it?

Also I sent you a PM Trusty inquiring about just buyin a already upgraded board off you!

Thanks!

Yeah, i'll add my experience here for sure, all i can say now you can't go wrong, I used XBMC for years and still havn't seen anything better also I have no desire to change my habits but considering this upgrade as a revival that lets me view all my sources smoothly, i'll test some more later.
Liquidvlade Hiraduo
I got one also from trusty about a week ago. At first I was dissapointed with the emulators because they went from too slow to way too fast, but with the patch, everything runs beautifully!!!

But XBMC itself, runs smooth as a buttered pig.
zorglub
I feel dissapointed, I had a few times enjoying the system, but the temps in XBMC are alarming, 76C cpu temp and a 34C gpu temp... my fan is buzzing like mad.

After a close look inside, i can't see no malfunction in the fan speed but the heatsink did not seem to do its job

I did perform the 80mm fan trick , i pushed it to 100%, but yesterday after 15-20', it was overheating > 80° (180F) my testing ended by a marvelous orange blinking and i have to let it cool down.

Did you get some similar reports ? What could you advice me to avoid overheating issues and make a -usable- better cooling system ? Please let me know.

had that problem as well. Had to remove the dvd drive (never used it anyway), move the hard drive over and put an extra fan on cpu radiator. temps are around 65* all the time.

Probably you could do some kind of air duct like in x360.

Despite that xbox is running smoothly. Thanks again Trusty!
