Hi everyone...hopefully this is the right forum for this question.

I just purchased a spindle of 8x Verbatims for the first time. I usually just purchase the 2.4x but the 8x were on sale. However, it seems that the slowest they will let me burn is 4x. I have an old LG GSA-4120B in my desktop that is only rated for 2.4x. I tried burning a disc but got the L0 error in imgburn and noticed in the log that it said something about the desired write speed being 2.4x but it was actually setting it to 4x. I'm assuming this is where the issue comes from.

Is there anyway to force the 8x DVDs to write at 2.4x, or is that just not possible?

I have a 4x capable drive in my laptop, so I can try that as well, but I'd prefer for them to work on the desktop if possible.

Thanks!

I've used them with no problem. I've actually had more problems with the 2.4x discs than I have with the 8x ones. Just burn at 2.4 and you'll be fine.

That's what I'd like to do, but it seems the disc is forcing the burner to try and write at 4x, which obviously doesn't work. I am choosing 2.4x as the write speed, just to clarify that.

I suppose there is a chance it was just that one disc, but I'd rather not ruin a bunch more until I find out a bit more about this.

it's probably the burner forcing it to burn @ 4x

I burn at 4x all the time. no problems.

The burner only supports 2.4x...that's the problem.

Therefore I need to be able to burn the discs at 2.4x. The 2.4x Verbatims work just fine (just burned another one), but when I put that 8x Verbatim in even with IMGburn set to a desired burn speed of 2.4x, it looks like the disc won't support that write speed and it tries to tell the burner to write at 4x, which won't work (because the burner doesn't support it).

Is that clear? I don't know a lot about this, but I'm guessing it is something to do with the information imgburn pulls from the DVD...the information that contains things like the max and min burn speeds, etc. I guess I'm wondering if there is anyway to force it to 2.4x.
I'm going to go put that DVD back in and tell you guys exactly what error message I'm getting.

Disc ID: MKM-003-00

At the bottom under Performance (Write Speed) it says "WS: 5,540 KB/s (4x)". When I put a 2.4x disc in that changes to 2.4x. Not sure if that matters.

When I go to burn I get a caution note in the log saying: Write Speed Miscompare! - Wanted: 3,324 KB/s/ (2.4x), Got: 5,540 KB/s (4x)
Then it hangs at "Optimal L0 Data Zone Method: Copied From Original Disc" for a while and then eventually an error pops-up: Set L0 Data Zone Capacity Failed! Reason: Write Error

Hes Right it's the burner and I burn @ 2.4x with no problems I forced it to 4x because my drive can go high then what the disc are rated for, when playing from the disc it sounds like the drive is eating the game lol Don't do this burn @ 2.4x just a little info.
