sorry of this is in the wrong section but i was not sure if it should go in the newbie or this section.
i'm trying to upgrade my HDD to 250GB as the title says. i already have the 250GB drive , but i only have a laptop and netbook to use to do the flashing with. first i tried with a sata to usb connector and this didn't work very well, then i tried to remove my HDD from the laptop and place the WD drive for the 360 inside. that didn't go well either. then i noticed i didn't read things right as the part of the line in the MS-DOS where it says 09F0 was the port number and i was copying this into the line i was typing. now i have no idea how to find my port number and was hoping someone would be kind enough to help me on my way. i resally wanted to this off my own back and read thread after thread but still was none the wiser. so if there is anyone out there who has used HDDHACKR with a laptop or knows how to do the HDD with a laptop and if they could pass the knowledge onto me i would be very gratefull. thanks for reading i wait eagerly for a response......................sudeki300

Just out of curiosity, are you booting into the Windows environment, then going to DOS? Or are you using a boot disk to go straight into DOS?

HDDHACKR F 09F0 HDDSS.BIN UNDO.BIN

i believe that part in bold is the port number of the sata port. if this is right how do i find my sata port number. please if the line is wrong i'm sorry i'm at work at the moment and trying to rememeber what i was doing yesterday..................sudeki300

It wouldn't work for me putting that line in, it would say the arguement was wrong.
just type hddhackr and hit enter, that'll take you into the program and go from there. it'll give you the options to choose.

also I only had my cdrom drive that I put a dos boot cd in, my blank 250gb drive and a usb stick plugged in.

iprep will tell you what port to find your SATA under.... mine was B400.

just follow those instructions and you'll be good to go, that's what i did. also i used a laptop. just use iprep, write down your sata's location (ie B400, 09F0), copy over the HDDSS and hddhackr files to the flash drive's root folder and boot down the laptop.

take the HD out, put in the 250gig one, plug the USB key in, start the laptop. F2 or Del or whatever gets you into your BIOS, change the boot order to "USB Flash drive" or "boot to USB" first, F10 or whatever to save changes and restart. let it boot, get into the command prompt and type "hddhackr". this executes the automatic flashing.

if it doesn't find your Hard drive, then you can use it manually using the "HDDHACKR F 09F0 HDDSS.BIN UNDO.BIN" command (obviously replacing the 09F0 with the location you found in iprep)

when you boot up in ms-dos first type HDDHACKR.EXE and it will list all the connected drives and the port number of those drives. it will tell you to put in the number of the drive you want to flash as mine was the only one in my laptop it was number 0. then you just go on from there....................sudeki300

yeah, everything transferred over ok the only thing i lost was my avatar it just a black shadow now. i really want my minime back but it says i have to go online to get the content and i don't think i will be going back online any time soon what with all the banhammers dropping like heavy metal from the sky. i don't want to lose my install game function as this was the main reason i upgraded the HDD in the first place. also i want to find someone who has been banned and done the upgrade and lost this function, i want to see of they are willing to re-flash the HDD to see if this resets the function at all. i suppose i will have to beg/borrow or steal a 250GB transfer cable and disc if i want to get my avatar back..........................sudeki300

Well, I'm watching and waiting to see if it safe to bring the 250bg drive onto Live. As far as I know, the ban was going after those playing copied games on spoofed cd drives, and those who used Datel's memory card.

There's also a ton of people who have 120gb homemade harddrive, and there has not been a ban on those individuals as of yet. Still, I'm going to wait until after the release of MW2 to bring the drive online.
