I've been away from the 'scene for a few years and am just getting back to it. I've spent the last couple days educating myself all over again and have not yet seen this answered. I generally try to answer my own questions by reading the forum so please forgive me if this has been covered, but I'm still fighting my way through the 100+ pages of the ban thread and thought this might be a quicker way to get some answers.

I'm a little fuzzy on how the console ban works in conjunction with HDD corruption. Here is my scenario, hopefully someone more knowledgeable than myself can shed some light on the possible outcomes for me.

I have 2 360's - 1 stock Elite, and one premium with Hitachi59 flashed with iXtreme 1.51 Neither is banned...the flashed 360 has never been on Live since the flash and there is no potential for going on Live with that box in the future. The stock Elite is on Live daily.

Is it possible to use the HDD from the premium on the Elite with Live, or will this result in a corrupted HDD? There are no disc based games installed to the HDD, it mainly contains a profile and a few licensed XBLA titles from when the system was still connected to Live.

Basically what it boils down to is I'm curious if MS will corrupt my HDD via an unmodded 360 on Live that is regularly attached to an unbanned yet modified console that will never see XBL again. Worst case scenario is I will never use that HDD with the stock system again and just get another dedicated drive for the Elite, but any input into how MS carries out system bans and HDD bans would be greatly appreciated!

i do not believe any offline consoles have ever received a ban via hdd like that, but if you are not storing games on the hdd, it is probably more convenient to keep your gamertag and gamesaves on a cheap memcard.

in order for the scenario that you are concerned about to actually occur, m$ would have to get a lot more obvious with their detection methods and nobody thinks they will do that.

Thanks Sticky the info is appreciated.

I agree it would be more economical to use a mem card, but I was already planning on a larger hard drive for the stock system so no biggie. Still, it would be nice to be able to occasionally move the existing HD from the flashed system to my stock system and access my gamesaves without fear that MS will corrupt the drive via the unmodded console. Basically the flashed console is in the bedroom and has some old purchased Arcade games on it that my wife would probably be pissed if she couldn't play anymore. biggrin.gif

All the info I've read about corrupted drives involved a system that is already banned, and from what I can see the general consensus seems to be that the corruption occurs at the time of banning. Since this scenario doesn't exactly pertain to me it's good to get the feedback of people more in the know while I'm still going through the learning curve!

fyi, you cannot keep a working copy of your gamertag on both hard drives so a memcard is the only solution for moving your gamertag between 2 consoles with hdd's.

however, you can move the usage rights for those xbla games from the offline console to the online console or to a replacement console(i think it is allowed once per year)...
