Why are people still stupid enough to go on live? The firmware is DETECTABLE with the new update.

I have a question, would be thankful if anyone could answer:
- Can I get a ban if I do not have Live account? i.e. plugging net cable in if a new game needs update prior to playing, or having it connected to the net just to play via system link (local network @ student dorm)

I voted last week that I was not banned with modified firmware. As of the 14th I've been banned too.

A few days ago I turned on my xbox, there was no disc inside. I was disconnected from Live. I press Connect, it connected and showed me the ban message. Tada, I'm f* up.

Grrrr got the banhammer also think ms was busy flagging al the flashed console for some time now till the had them all and then began ban waves If they were to begin bans directly the word wil spreak quick and every one would'nt connect to live and they would'nt have so much bans so i think the sollution don't go on xbox live doesn't affect any thing your console is already on the ban list I guess

now busy getting xboxconnect to work so i still can play online with my friends

Just wanted to put my 2 cents in on this I have 2 flashed benq with ix1.41 still on live and still not banned. Could it be the newest firmwares? Also i have never played any backup games while the console was connected to the net.

i just dont get it we are aloud a back up copy of every game you buy but to play ur back up copy you need a modded xbox so why is m/s banning modded xboxs when it states in every game you buy that we can copy a game for a back up in case ur real game gets broke or sumit

Last week i flashed my BenQ drive with ix 1.6.1
Last Friday also, after watching the end credits of Modern Warfare 2, i signed in to XBL to apply the latest update for Operation FLashpoint and................SURPRISE

I got the Terms Of Violation notice.

So what do i do?I guess i am staring at the sun thinking of my 300e i spend for that console.

I would be happy if i could recover the previous state of my console, so i can install to hard drive or use the Media Center application so i don't have to watch movies on my pc.

Anyway, i just wanted to say it to someone since there is no way back for the BAN

You people be careful.They are still banning.November is a tough month for Xbox users.

I hope they find a way soon to unban the console or at least re-enable the features that the ban disables(and i don't mean "be able to sign in XBL")

I agree. I got banned during the last wave as well, all you can do is wait till its over and re-up.

I was able to sell my old banned console and buy an unmodded, working console for the exact same price, mod it myself, and...........voila! I'm back on Live for another year.

But now I think this is it for me, I think I'm doing what I really wanted to do in the 1st place and go back to Sony

Lite-ons seem to have the highest percentage of being banned. With so many people having used abgx and still getting banned I just don't see how everyone screwed up the verification/patch process. The last time I believe my console was connected to live was the Nov. 9th. I know I did not connect it when I got MW2. abgx at the time did not have Wave4 support or MW2 in the database. Also, I don't think it would be wise to do as the youtube video suggested because who knows exactly what data is passed when the attempted connection to M$ is made.

I'm getting that urge 2 My dad wants my xbox think i'll get me an ps3 if i am gonna spend an other load of money i might aswel get some cool new features like blueray and streaming video from the pc without lag

Meh I stayed off live the first time I can say I love the rrod kept me offline for about 3 months so as far as m$ is concerned I went and bought another 360.... heat gunning does work well though Though I might as well go back to stock and risk scratching my disks

Well I've kept my Elite offline since all this started happening. I can't think of any Wave 4 games I've played on it (I've got my old banned console for those).

What I have for a setup now, is the banned console for playing anything for goof-off or system link purposes.

I have my modded BenQ Elite that I use for stealthed Wave3 and earlier games. I have the ethernet cable plugged in for system link, but in the Family Settings, I've block Xbox Live myself so that it won't ever connect.

Then I have my MW2 360 that will never be modified, and will only play legit games online (the rare occasions I actually do play online).

So I'm good, as long as I sign in on the unbanned Elite, play my "safe" backups with my profile on my memory card, then move it over to the unmodified console for achievement/profile updating.

I just hope in the future Microsoft doesn't attach something to your profile that looks for modified offline consoles.

Not true.. I have a modded box with 1.6 and never played a backup game on XBL with it. It's been on every day for a month. Not banned. And until it is it will be hard for me believe its related to FW detection.

Doesnt make alot of sense if you think about it. One, if you pay $8 a month for xbl you get a MUCH better online gaming experience than the PS3 one. There IS a reason PS3 network is free (its sucks on matchmaking and chat)

Secondly...if the only reason is you stayed with 360 is bc you can mod it, then M$ is not making money on you... yes on XBL, but you mod for what reason? to save money on games? then developers lose, hence M$ loses... whats the point? PS3 and Xbox 360 are 2 different systems. One costs monthly fees, the other is harder to mod.. pick your poison.

Not sure if this means anything, but with my Xeno Top Gear installed I've been backing up games while playing some Arcade games on LIVE, and I did the Network Test trick to see if my console's been flagged, but it still reads Z: 8015-1002 (instead of the 190D). So this means one of two things:

A) Having your DVD drive disconnected while the 360 is on does not get you banned.

OR

The network test trick doesn't work / the flagging is not immediate.

For all you guys with a FW that cant play the wave 4 games and that have a banned xbox....just patch the damn games....and play on.....the best games are sp..... assasinss creed 2 and mass effect 2

So it seems now that the ban is slowing down. I havent been banned yet and People who have modded after the launch of MW2 havent reported any new bans. Has anyone been banned with a console that was modified AFTER the start of the ban?

just got banned on my BenQ, just started it up havent played it in 2-3 weeks so they figured it out somehow. Second BenQ on 1.60 i had banned. Still got two boxes live but i wont say here what they are running

I found that I was banned yesterday. I fired up my 360 about 2 weeks ago, and though I was in the clear. Guess not.
Might have to try the ol' Walmart switcharoo.

Furthermore, I really regret buying an Xbox now. My next console will be a PS4 I'm guessing.

Yeah, that is what I'm interested in. Someone I know of had theirs flashed on 8th November (sunday before MW2 launch), been using activate iso everyday online and slipped through. Anyone else know of similar circumstances?

well i know a few peeps that were banned when they where playing the new mw2 back ups
plus i know a few who where banned playing rainbow six vagas 2 original disks but i never got banned that way i just turned on my xbox then i got banned no game in or anything the last game i played be4 that was mw2 original disk hope this helps m8 will ask all the guys i know thats banned and will report back

That's because we can be pretty sure they are detecting firmware not bad rips. when did they have theirs flashed? After ban wave started?
Like I said I know of 1 guy who isn't banned... yet. He has had his flashed for two weeks on sunday, anyone else know of anyone with a recently (last two weeks) flashed console? Are they banned?

i know someone who had 4 copies of borderlands all checked before and after burning with abgx. 2 got banned 2 didnt.

OK well just thought I'd add my experience. I hacked all my friends' xboxes (about 10) and as far as I know at least 6 of them are banned. They had all kinds of drives one was a hitachi spoofed to a benq. No lite-ons. all were flashed using xbox as power supply (ya stupid I know now). I'll ask around some more but it looks like the only one not banned is a hitachi I flashed most recently like beginning of November and its still going strong although they've decided not to play any burnt games for the past two weeks. I have yet to run that Z-code checker thing on them yet to see if that yields anything.

Now for my hypothesis as to reasons for this happening:
So far it looks like everyone that was banned played a bad burn some time in the last six months. This seems to make sense because the recently modded ones are fine. I think microsoft has been collecting a list of consoles to ban over the past few months and is just doing it now to prevent us from finding the cause. It looks like some consoles still arent banned but when I buy my next one I'm probably going to wait for that new lite-on firmware and be extremely careful to verify all my burns as well as getting a connectivity kit so I don't have to power up the xbox without a drive. As for my personal xbox, it red-ringed and I can't tell if it's been banned. Does anyone know of a way to check ban status on xbox.com perhaps if I cant turn on my console?

So I turn my xbox on today, first time in about a week. I get the horrible prompt telling me that I violated their terms of service and my console is now banned.

I've been running the 1.51 flash on my samsung drive. When flashed it was not using the xbox power supply.

The only games that I played that were burnt were all fairly old. No wave 4. The newest game was COD: WAW.

Hope my info will help find the reason for the bans!

edit: I was lazy and had a local guy flash my xbox. He pulled the drive and used the connectivity kit. Then he put it all back in, fired it up, but FORGOT to hookup the DVD power cable...... Maybe this is the culprit? If so do you think I'm entitles to a refund? lmao

My Hitachi was banned and I'm running iXtreme 1.51 (the highest available for hitachi to my knowledge) with autofix level 3 on all the games I have and no games before they hit the stores. I was being extremely paranoid about not getting banned and when I was, I went into shock. Then I realized all of the down-sides to getting banned and wondered how Xbox Live was allowed to take away basic functionality of my hardware like that!

Now I'm done with live since my month-long subscription ran out and I don't have any plan to renew since I can't be on it anyway! It's still a great gaming utility, although greatly retarded now.

I'll be constantly scanning for ways to unban my 360 and if any legit research comes to fruition, I'll take back the functionality I paid for.

side note: none of my games were beyond wave 3, I quadruple-checked and it was just after playing a newly burned version of WET after autofix3-ing it that I got banned. I thought it was because of that but I guess I was mistaken...

I have A 360 That was flashed, but for some reason does not read backups. ( some mod huh? ) What exactly is wrong with it, I cant say But it has not been banned, and the console that I do my DVD drive hot swap with is not banned.... What is it that you all are doing wrong, you didn't know that Microsoft can literally see the disk that is being played by the firmware that is on the drive, and if the seek time is not right they know your playing a backup. There are several ways around this, one of which was just mentioned, come on people, putting a 2 phase bypass switch between two drives that are both flashed to one console is not that hard, you only need to put a switch between the 12v wires on the power cable.... I can't believe so many people got banned, Microsoft really put a number on people this time. But that is o.k. Be sure to keep in mind that both the Wii and the PS3 will be on sale everywhere for Black Friday. Imagine the money they are loosing for all of those 1.1 Million people that were paying for -box live, down-loadable content, and game add-ons. Is Microsoft really that smart for this, they should have just kept people from launching their games online, not keeping them from live all together.... I wonder what Netflix is going to do about losing near 60 percent of their customers... Think Microsoft is going to have another contract with them, when it is time to renew?

played MW2 nov 10th starting at around 10 oclock (2 hours before official release) with activate iso was banned next day. that prolly set off a flag for me. before that i was playing forza, brutal legend and COD4. alot of people are suspecting activate but a buddy of mine had just modded his xbox and had COD4 as his only game and was banned. so im suspecting dashboard updates more than I am activate iso

I've got a Hitachi 79 and I didn't get banned. It was fw 1.4 for the longest time. Probably since 1.5 years or more. I took a break from live for the last 6 months or so, and just recently started playing again like 2 weeks ago. I've since upgraded to 1.51 and played a few newer games with no problem.

This is good information....

There are very few differences between the people getting banned and not. In seems less people have been banned so far than have (it would be about 40% banned 60% not (This is only taking into account about 20 people that I personally know the setups etc of)).

It will be interesting to see if additional bans are handed out over the coming weeks, so at this stage it still seems a little to early to speculate how the bans are being applied.

c4eva practically admitted that MS has found a way to detect his ixtreme firmware. That's why he is making ixtreme Lite Touch and focusing on making it identical to original fw instead of security.
A nice feature about LT, is that it will run anything regardless of wave so no need to worry about reflashing every couple of months (probably). But the downside is that you will have to MAKE SURE your backups are verified and secure to play on XBL. I think splitvid is now required on every backup now.

Originally the past banwaves were due to bad burns or bad rips but this time, the firmware can now be detected.

well im not modded but im still close 2 selling my 360 and do have a ps3 so i might as well buy a new laptop and get games from torrents connect a 360 controller n play my portable "benhecked" 360 that way lol.

I just spoofed my samsung as BenQ and I might risk going online. Chance is I'll most likely get banned, but somewhere I read there was a fix to this. I don't know if this was a mith or not...hopefully not.

the firmware can be detected eh? NOPE...I dont think so. I have a box with 1.6 firmware that has been online on Xbox live EVERY DAY for the last month. It only had a burned game played once for 5 minutes to test the mod. And that was OFFLINE. It is not banned and therefore the firmware mod is NOT detectable.

My guess is that the newer games have something in the code that is not copyable and when you put the backup in the console it flags it, leading to a ban. Maybe a date code?

My Jasper got banned, I modded it and never had a backup in it. I did this to test if it could be detected, it lasted a week before being banned. I didn't use the 360 to power it when flashing the drive either. Lite-on drive.
If something is *not* banned, it proves nothing, it appears MS doesn't ban every console it can, but if one *is* banned then it shows what they are banning for. In this case, it isn't for playing backups, it isn't for powering up without the drive, it isn't for modding the fans, it isn't for playing bad rips. Somehow they detected the firmware even though *only* originals were ever in it. I have set up another 360 and modded it and have not put *any* discs in it at all, it so far has not been banned, but wether that is because they can't detect it or just haven't banned it, no-one can say at this stage.


No, if you are banned there is no way to unban the console, the best you can do is uncripple you HDD to allow games to be installed to it again.

The only dumb part is M$ won't be getting that $50 from most of the people who got banned. I know I won't be renewing my XBL gold account. For a money hungry company like them its kind of doesn't make sense. I don't have to play online to enjoy the games. If I get that hard up I'll have my friends come over and we'll have a lan party.

I bought a used xbox 360 (xenon board, toshiba samsung drive) about 2 years ago, modded it myself and applied x-clamp fix right away, so far so good, I never played online, 1st time to go online was to d/l super street fighter 2 hd demo using the former owners silver account, 2nd time was to patch sacred 2, I always use my own profile when playing games, anyway I downloaded a dragon age origins early release, most comments says it's not stealth, unverified blah blah, but I tried it anyway.

arghh! wave 4 game, wtf is that? I researched then found about activate.iso, nice! played for a couple of days but then argghh! again, the dreaded rrod strikes, too lazy to try to fix the console atm, three weeks passed and finally got the time and stuff for the team hybrid ultimate x-clamp fix but again...

argghh! after all the drilling and sanding and screwing (lol) I didn't know my dads heat gun's broken, wtf! but I tried the "baking method" (with the dvd drive connected but was outside the console) and it worked! I immediately started dragon age and played for a couple of minutes then I tried to go online to see if there's an update, I was well aware that M$ has been banning lots of consoles lately but I figured i won't be coz I never played online, ever! but then bam! banned this was 4 days ago.

i got banned on 12th nov.2009.i hd 1.51 xtreme benq.and i never played pre release game.i did not play call of duty 6 either online and offline. i only played halo wars most of time.

-never played a game on live
-only used live for rockband DLC and dashboard updates and only did DLC fro mthe marketplace and not "in-game", I also booted rockband 2 for a game update to use my ion rocker drums.
-I leave my ethernet disconnected when not getting DLC
-modded xbox with dvd drive disconnected from sata port on xbox motherboard, but used xbox power supply to power the xbox-to power the dvd drive


Xbox died RROD August 22, 2009, applied for 3 year warranty fix, recieved shipping label. Was working out of town and forgot to send it in.

October 15th-ish 2009 I baked the console and got it working again, this lasted 3 days. In this time I used live to do a rockband 2 game update. Only played offline, with ethernet unpluged. That was all. RROD shortly after, no indication of violation of terms of use.

November 20ish, 2009 Called in to get a new shipping label (old one expires after 30 days) and they informed me that my console was flagged as "tampered". They sent a request to the repair center for the reason, and I still havn't recieved a response. They said I may have to send pictures of the console to them before they will issue a new shipping label.

Can MS tell a moded console, If a game has never been played on live, just booted to recieve the game updates and dlc? I would guess so. Although MS told me my console is marked tampered not banned.

Ideas ?

If it's modded, then it has to have been opened, and MS won't even touch a console if the warranty sticker is gone.
