I put together a little readme for people that need some help installing their games to HDD that are using XBRebooter.

(Will work with single Nand setup) you do not need cygnos

How to install XEXloader and play originals fom official HDD (DVD not required)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

** Remember, this can only be played from an exploited XBRebootable 360 **

This assumes that you have a HDD on your 360 with enough free space to
transfer the game files to (~7.5GB)

Installing the XEXloader package:

- Download XEXloader.iso
- Burn XeXLoader.iso to CD/DVD
- Start 360, insert CD/DVD, select play game.
- Use the file browser to copy (using the "X" button) the directory
"C0DE9999" to the 360 HDD at:
Hdd1://Content/0000000000000000/

Remove CD/DVD, Restart the 360 then go to "Game Library" and
load the game demo listed as "XeXLoader"

Once XEXloader has loaded you can use the built in "CopyDVD" XEXloader
copy functions to copy your original DVD game in the DVD Rom to HDD.
(Game will create its own folder in root of HDD).

In order to run an original game copied to the HDD you must patch the
default.xex file for that game, so basically copy the default.xex to a usb
stick (plugged into the back USB port), then copy that file to the same
folder on your PC where Xextool is and use the following command (open up a
command/Dos prompt window in that folder). If you are using Total commander
just click in that folders window to make the window active and then type
"cmd" in the bottom command line bar and hit enter with no quotes and that will
open a dos window in the correct directory to make life a little easier for you

xextool -ra -m d default.xex

This will now patch the file to allow you to run the game on your 360
so delete the original default.xex file in the xbox 360 HD using xexloader and
replace it with the patched one. The game will now work without the DVD in
the drive

** You will get a E71 error if you reboot the 360 with the USB drive plugged
in if you copied the default.xex file to the root of the USB drive. Don't copy
the file to the root of the drive, put it in a folder (just create a folder
with the games name) **

Now i just got to figure out why my external Sata USB drive is not recognised.
I followed all scraps of info i could find.

A Tutorial would be nice. Hint Hint!

this only applies to people with cygnos and a dual nand setup right?

you cant run this with just xbreboot?

Wen you load the game from XEXloader that you copied to HDD it appears in the root directory of the HDD so i dont believe it needs to go into the content folder, i think that only applies to XBlive games. You just specify Copy DVD and it asks for destination and you select HDD if not already highlighted

I just found out why my external 250 Sata > USB drive didnt work. In order for XEX loader to show an external drive it apparently needs to be formatted Fat32 AND must contain at least one file in the directory in order for XEX loade tor see it.

I used Swissknife format utility and created a 250GB Fat32 partition and it shows up fine now

What directory do these have to be in for them to show up under My Games to launch from Dash, Content?

Its an automatic process, just select copy DVD, select HDD1 for destination and it will create its own directory in the root of HDD1 called backup0 (it should auto increment folder name once you add more). Once you have patched the default.xex file then you just run that from xexloader

it will not show up under my games, you will need to navigate to the correct folder and run default.xex using xexloader (highlight the file and press A)

There may be a better process to do this, this is all i could find, if people have better ways, let us know

Thanks, I saw a youtube video of somebody who had the games listed in their Arcade Games list and was able to launch from there. If I put the backup# folder in the Content folder, I wonder if it would work...

that someone was me and to do that you need to put the games in container files live/pirs with xlast or le fluffie (xlast does a better job)

you should always use the newest release which would be the .12. Make the cd/DVD and then put the disc in the 360 and

- Start 360, insert CD/DVD, select play game.
- Use the file browser to copy (using the "X" button) the directory
"C0DE9999" to the 360 HDD at:
Hdd1://Content/0000000000000000/

can you get that far ?

Thanks for this howto. A couple of questions: do games installed this way get trimmed to their actual size or do they all take the whole 7-something gigabytes? And do they suffer from the freezes and slowdowns people are reporting around the boards?

Some of the games i have seen are actually quite smaller than the 8.5GB that the discs can hold. Some people are reporting slow downs, others aren't... seems to be a crapshoot

Thanks for the instructions, however I have a question is it possible run games which have already been installed to the HDD using the standard install method Microsoft provide in NXE dash. I would try this but I am still waiting for my xploitable 360 to be delivered,

Thanks,

If the 360 hasnt been banned, then yes, they can be installed normally (remember, this xexloader process won't work on a non modded 360). Once you get your exploitable box then this will come in handy as you can plug in an extermal sata>USB drive and copy the DVD games to there giving you more storage space. So if you only have a 20GB official HDD then you really need to add an external Sata>USB drive. You can also plug the external drive back into your PC to rename folders, move stuff around etc. (This way you can rename the backup# folders that xexloader creates to show the real name of the game

The external Drive must be formatted Fat32 (use swissknife to get large partition) and xexloader can only see the first (primary) partition AND you must have at least one file on the partition (its a bug) in order for Xexloader to see it
nevernow
Vel, if ythat's what you're thinking, seamless integration of external devices is not (yet?) available. "Proper" installs go to native 360 devices, all the rest needs to be handled and launched through the available homebrew tools. A sort of exception is repackaging games as PIRS/Live files, so that they show up as "Proper" Arcade games.
luigionlsd
If your HDD is missing the Content folder, just put in any game and create a save on your HDD (assuming it's freshly formatted for use in the 360 using the Memory tab). I used Rock Band 2 and it created one.
Vel
Thanks for the responses, however I am still a bit unsure, I upgraded my current 360 HDD a month or so ago (before playing MW2) to a 250GB drive, so I'm wondering for e.g. I have installed MW2 to the HDD and I will be using me HDD on my new console when it arrives, however will I be able to edit the default.xex file on the internal HDD or does this file not exist when installing the game via the NXE dash,

Thanks for the how to, working great on my 250gb hdd

hi i was wondering what the bigest partition you can get with fat32 file system? i have a 1.5tb external and after formating i could only get 400gb out of it agfter converting to fat32 and i did use the swiss army program.

what happens if the game is bigger than 4gb? fat32 cant handle this.

it isn't an iso its an extracted "iso" which means there aren't any files bigger then 2gb

There isnt anyone out there that would like to take on the task for a
program that could extract game files from iso's in a batch would there be tongue.gif

I'm having some problems to load a game from External USB HD.

I'v formated as FAT32 . Made a Backup of an iso (Bayonetta) So i'v used Xbox Image Browser to extract the .ISO then X360GameHack_v5.2 and made a FIX and load xexloader but when i select the folder of game nothing happens. ( like there's no file inside or something like that. )

I made the same thing with *Dead Rising* but when i select the game folder the XeXloader Freeze blink.gif

I'm using patched kernel 8955_1 and XeXloader 1.2

Tryed to paste the game folder on my original HDD and the same thing happens ohmy.gif

Use xbox image explorer. Its very simple program of use. Just Open the iso file of your backup then click right ( Extract )... select a path them extract just fine ^^ I'v liked.

xexloader doesent seems to handle folder with many small files in it, just like the unpacked "dead rising" image.
Hopefully this will be no issue in the next release of xexloader=)

I had alot of issues running from a USB drive as well with load times
and freezing, so I have been putting everything on a internal hdd.
Fixed it all and no seek times.
wes302
cod5 works with some freeze during single player start. game starts it plays fine. so far
dufc1983
ok well console arrived this morning, loaded up xexloader, chose my usb 4gb pen drive which i patched left4 dead 2 from fresh iso using 360gamehack exe using default settings, that was 20mins ago played 20 campaigns no freezing issues so far,got other games to test but great stuff so far
kipper2k
One more thing.

I noticed that when you use the Copy DVD function from XEXLoader it writes the files in a chronological order to the HDD. This is fine except for the fact that when you later want to play the game and go to the folder it means that if there are a lot of files in the root directory of the game then you have to use the controller to go down the list to select default.xex. Because the default.xex has been patched and is probably the last file copied into the directory it will be at the bottom of the listing

An easy fix for those people using external usb drives is...

Once you have read your original to the USB drive, patched it and verified the game works plug it into your PC

- Create a new directory with the games name
- copy over ONLY the default.xex to the newly created folder
- now copy all files/folders from the original dumped directory to the newly created folder EXCEPT the default.xex
- you can now delete the older directory (verify the game loads ok first)

What this does is makes sure that when you plug it back into the 360 XEXloader will sort the directory listing by time and default.xex will be at the top of the list and you will simply just need to press A t to load the game. (it is also possible it is using the TOC (Table of Contents) for that specific folder too, so first file in the folder goes to the top of the TOC).

I'm pretty sure the process for an official HDD would be the same except you would have to take apart the HDD do do this and use 360Explorer to move the files around
luigionlsd
For games with multiple XEX files in the root directory, is it necessary to patch each XEX file, or will the Default being patched simply allow it to load everything? If there's no response, I'll test it in a few hours after work and write back.

I know some games have other .xex in the listing, i think it would depend on what the xex is actually loading, i think the majority of games probably use the default.xex to control other calls seeing as that one is always the one executed on bootup

Hi Guys

Had anyone here had any luck with Fifa10 from external usb? I get a dirty disc and then E71. Other games work fine and I've had another user confirm the same problem with his Fifa10.

Cheers

Thank you very much for the tutorial!

Please forgive my ignorance, but I have a few questions to ask, if that's alright. When copying the dvd contents to the hdd installed in the 360, is every file on the dvd copied over? If so, would it be possible, theoretically speaking, to copy over the extracted contents of a game iso from the computer using Xplorer360 (so the 360 hdd is connected directly to the pc sata port or via transfer cable)?

I apologize if the answer is blatantly obvious, but I'm in the research phase of learning about 360 homebrew. It's clearly not as easy as xbox 1 was (especially near the end, completely software based:).

Thank you in advance.

- All files from DVD are copied over to the HDD
- you can copy all the files to a PC, the easiest way to do this is to plug in a USB HDD formatted with Fat32 and when you copy the game from DVD copy it to the external USB drive, that way you can plug that USB drive into your PC and it will be recognised
- This means you can copy the extracted files from a game iso on your PC to the external Sata drive. Just create a directory of the games name in the root of the external Sata drive, and copy all the extracted game files to that directory. Plug it back into the 360, open Xexloader and go to the USB1: device and you will see the newly created game directory with all your files in (Dont forget to patch the Default.xex)

- if you need to do this to your official HDD then you will need the cable and 360 explorer or undo your 360 HDD case and plug the drive into your PC to be able to run 360explorer in order to copy the files over that way. (Obviously the externalSata HDD method is the simplest)

you have to patch every XEX AND DLL Files to get the games fully working. A good example is HL Orangebox, it has only the default.xex but wont work until you have patched all the DLLs.

i ripped a game to my usb flash drive, patched it with 360gamehack, and when i try to load up default.xex my 360 tells me it cant load the game... has this happened to anyone else? also when i try to rip certain older games it only takes about 6mb's of data and thats it...

I realize this is probably not the right place to post this but has anyone else had a problem with copying the dvd with xexloader. I have Creed 2 in and it copies about 82 megs and thats it. Also when I use file browser on the dvd drive, it shows the audio, video, and $systemupdate folders. Inside the $systemupdate folder There are 8 other items that appear to be folders but I can't open them. There is no default.xex or any other files. When I copy dvd it only copies those 8 items. This is the original disc in case anyone is wondering. Could it be a bad copy of xexloader?

Same here, first game I tried is game I own, splinter cell da, loads up to menu but upon start its back to dash with "could not start game, please download again" message.

And ALSO with all my xbla games, for some reason, they all work but about 2-5 minutes in, they begin lagging to a slow freeze.

Tested on 2 xenon xbr boxes, same result.
