Hey, I've search around and had mixed answers about this, and im still unsure :/
I have a 8955 Console with XBR and have been using it offline, I tried connecting to live and it asks me for a update. Will that kill the homebrew? And is there anyway to connect without updating?
I know I'll get banned, just might have some fun untill then.
Thanks in advance.
Edit: Just a quick add, I've only used it offline to play games from a HDD and I never knew it was possible to connect and I've seen videos of "JTAG Mods" for MW2 so it must be possible.

If you accept the update it will likely kill your homebrew and you will never be able to run homebrew again.

I am pretty sure XBR uses virtual fuses which means blow away, we'll make more. Anyway... I don't recomend you trying it but would love to hear what happens

Erm.. Thanks for the quick reply, but like I said mixed answers

I don't care about getting banned it's just the homebrew killer im worried about. Is there anyone who has tried updating with XBR?

Sorry, cant edit for some reason. The button isn't there.
Updated, and can still run homebrew. Phew.
You can now close this is you want.

so to clear all confusion you updated your xbr on xbox live without removing r6t3 and it still works fine?

Yeah I didn't wanna risk removing that resistor. Problem is, the dash/kernal version hasn't changed to what it was before the update. But good thing is I can connect now.

You've probably just updated Avatar information. Was it there before you updated?

I can bet he was missing avatars, it's just nice to know it see's he has 8955 and only updates the rest of the content he was missing without killing the homebrew.

I'm not too sure about that, as I said I only used this for playing games from HDD. But it prompted me to install a update and gave that 128mb warning.

Ah - it would be the Avatar data then. 128MB is the amount it needs to download and extract the data. I would confidently say that prior to the update, you didn't have any avatars (just a silhouette) and when you signed in you got a message that you needed to connect to live to update some information on your Profile.

Well thats a relief, now I think about it I do remember having no avatar.

If it's any more comfort, I downloaded the official 8955 + Avatars update from Microsoft and applied it to my FreeBoot machine - all it did was install the Avatar data
