In project 411GB, he puts 3 external hard drives through a 4P3T switch with splits into 3 wires for the 3 hard drives. However, is there a way to split into 4? If so, what kind of rotary switch would i need for that?
THANKS

i personally dont think that there would be a need for 4, it'd be a difficult time filling the entire 3 hard drives from 411

yes i guess you are right, but in the past 10 months, i have filled an 80-gig hard drive. Please post if you can add 4 hard drives.

why not ask this when you fill up the other 2.
yse, it is possible, but you will need a different switch for the power and a custom ide cable.

by custom, what do you mean, do you mean that i can find it in stores or what? And by any chance do you know the name of the switch since the other one was 4P3T?
THANKS

well, you can use that switch along with another dpdt switch, to cut the power to the 4th hdd.
By custom I mean that you will need an ide cable that has enough connectors.
But make sure that the ide cable is not too long, I don't remember the limit right now, but it's not too long.

Most likely you wont be able to find them in stores I couldnt anyways. If you find someone that has a crimper for the ide cables your in luck maybe a local computer outlet or something simulair. Just incase you dont know if you do find the cable you can only have 2 devices powered on at one time. Ide cables only usually come with 2 male connections you will need to put more male connections on with this crimper tool. Just incase you dont know you can only have 2 devices powered on at one time so you will need to have switches on all of you devices or something simulair. Hope this helps.

Ok, so you filled an 80 gig in 10 months. So it would take you another 2 years to fill two more 120gig drives. Why worry about the hassle of 4 drives then? A new console will be on the horizen then. Plus you will have a ton of games that you dont use and could delete.

lol, if i had 400+ gb it wouldnt take that long to fill, i would be putting games, movies, everything on it left and right. case now i dont do that cause im worried about running out of space to quick.
anyways that would be awsome man!! i was thinking about doing the same but its pretty expensive, lol
