Here is a beta of my XBox 360 Commander
A lot of the features are not working yet. Just wanted to get some feedback on in.

features not working yet:
  1. Drag and Drop of files
  2. hard drive error check
  3. hard drive defrag
freatures that are working:
  1. Backup
  2. Restore
  3. Format Hard Drive
  4. One Click Transfer Wizard
"One Click Transfer Wizard" lets you transfer all files from one XBox 360 hard drive to another.
all the files on the second drive are lost so you must make a backup before the transfer if you need to keep them.

Format, Back up and Restore do what you expect.

the hard drive must have a valid HDDSS area to work.

It will open both XBox 360 hard drives and binary images of a hard drive.

Very nice!
any hdd size supported ? 20gb/60gb/120gb/250gb ?
and I found small bug , "One Click Transfer Wizard" window size is wrong , I can't see the buttons ( windows 7 ).
icepir8icepir8
Thanks for the bug report. I am still using Win XP and everything looks good there. Could you send me a screen shot of the window?

Yes it reads the HDDSS on the drive to get the size to use.

Didn't you bother reading the OP, it needs a valid HDSS.bin on the drive meaning it is for official\official clone drives.

Is there a 500GB official drive out?

NO!
confusedman09
Thanks for the app, bout time we had an alternative to Xplorer. I understand that your app relies on the HDSS of a hard drive, but have you looked into any kind of support for Jtag drives? Im sure a lot of people would appreciate that, but I have no idea how possible it may or may not be.

Thanks

well you're just charming arnt you?

anyway most JTAG-ers won't have official HDDs anyway, the official HDDs have pethetic amounts of storage

Actually it just gets the hard drive sector count from the HDDSS record. It does not check if the siganture is valid. It checks if the PNG image is there as the test to see if it is a XBox 360 hard drive. It will work with any hard drive used as long as those two thing are correct. I made the assumption that the XBox 360 uses the sector count when it configures the hard drive. But I have not checked this on a JAGed console.

Let me know if it works for you. I could modify the code to get the sector count in a different way if needed.
linkinworm1
hows this in comparison to xplorer? i find that xplorer will make me need to clear my cashe afterwards to play games, or sometimes it deletes content
Grim187
i cant wait for defrag and error check.

how about a button that will auomatically place title updates in the correct place?
hit button, select the TU file, hit go... and your program does the rest?

Hi

Just tried this with my 500gb internal drive for my jtag system.

It finds the drive at whatever location but thats it after that it locks up (not responding) and doesnt show any of the partitions.

This drive was clone from a 20gb using a tut from x-s somewhere

Ok. I take that the HDDSS is from a 20GB hard drive. If the sector count was not updated in the HDDSS XBox 360 Commander will look at an incorrect offset for the root directory. Could you send me the HDDSS you have on the drive and the make of the hard drive used?

Is this supposed to work with 60gb drives as well?

Everytime I attach a 60gb drive, Xbox 360 Commander detects the drive "XBOX-360 Harddrive found at \\.\PhysicalDrive2"
Then it freezes up.

I've tried it with 2 different 60gb drives and I get the same thing

Yes, My primary test drive is a 60gb drive. Other one is a 20gb. Have you used any other programs to move files to or from the hard dives? I sound as if the directory tree is corrupts in some way. Although that would probably result in an error in the program.

I keep track of all the 360 homebrew stuff, but I dont have a jtag yet.

anyways, how does this program work? Is it all done via a network(on a jtag only) or is it simple where you can take any official HDD and hook it up to the PC via the HDD transfer kit? Is there any documentation on this program. Mainly I want to be able to back up xbox1 DLC sicne it likes to basically expire (becomes damaged)if you don't use it often, and the future defrag tool.

Also, what was someone talking about with moving title updates to the correct place?

It works by connecting HDD transfer kit. I have not written up the docs yet.

nice... i've been waiting for better hdd tools...

A nice feature would be to select what to backup/restore. If you got a list of checkboxes or something so you could choose to only backup/restore stuff like: DLC, specific profiles, gamesaves, partition 2 etc..

Looks like it is not NULL checking. Maybe the menu options should be disabled until a hard drive is properly loaded in.

Its so nice to hear we will be able to defrag our hdd's in the future. Thanks alot!

Great little program. Hopefully jtag support will follow soon. im sick of xplorer360. I made a backup of my 80gb jtag hard drive using xplorer360 and i restored the image to my 320gb hard drive. it loads fine in the 360 and all emulators and progs work fine but for some reason it refuses to run any 360 games on the hard drive even tho it did before.
It just comes up with an error saying i need to re-download the game :/. So i thought it may have been the hard drive so i copied it back to my 80gb and it does exactly the same thing on there. anyone have any clue whats happening

thanks

Hmmm, I will retry this weekend and post back. I did use Xplorer360 on these drives before (Xplorer360 version which works with 60gb drives).

Great Stuff man! There is a significant lack of 360 hard drive utilities available that are effective and user-friendly. I definitely see this program evolving into one of the better HDD utility programs. I've noticed that a lot of people here at X-S, including myself, take a lot of this hard work for granted, so I'd like to say thanks a lot for your hard work. Don't pay any attention to the ignorant fools who complain that the program isn't exactly "tailored to their needs", as their lack of appreciation shows their lack of experience and hard work necessary to develop a program like this.

To the OP, will you be open to releasing your source code? Xplorer360 supports xbox1 FATX partitions and I'm the developer for xboxdumper and I would like to see support added to your tool for old school xbox1 users.

Will send you a PM. Thanks.

Very nice tool. It detected my official 120gb drive connected via HDD transfer kit cable. I didn't test out any other features yet.

I usually have issues with Xplorer360 so I was using FATXplorer (Link). It works well for what I need it to do. In particular, I like how it shows the actual game name instead of just game IDs. I'm just bringing it to your attention in case you want to use some ideas from it.

I have been working with the goal of supporting both XBox 360 and XBox1 with this tool. The current version should detect XBox1 HDDs and display the directory information. but none of the tools will work with it yet. I don't have access to and XBox1 formated HDD for testing.

I am using C# to develope XBox 360 Commander. Maybe something can be worked out for testing the XBox1 code.

Download Rev 2 here

This revisions address some of the problems that jtag systems have been having. Also I have had a few issues with HDDs that Xplore360.exe has updated.

Feedback good and bad welcomed.

I can't wait to try this when I get back from vacation. I am getting tired of Xplorer360 being slow and not supporting all 360 hard drives in one app. I had to use a different version for each size hard drive I had.

I am glad to see jtag hard drive support in the works.

I will test this app later today on my 500gig and see if it works. Currently neither Modio, Xplorer360 (hexedited for 500), fatxplorer or lefluffie can read it properly.

Being a coder myself I suspect this behaviour with non-visible objects inside the form is because your application doesn't adapt to the system-wide font setting in windows (any user can switch between "Normal / Large Fonts / Extra Large Fonts" in Windows). If so, take a look here on how to fix that easily: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms229594.aspx

This is EXACTLY to a T what I want to see a good tool like this do. It will make transferring specific titles between HDD's sooooo easy.
Knasen
Using the 1.0.0.2 version.

With my original MS 120gb hd connected and starting the application it tells me "XBOX HDD detected at \\.\physicaldrive5" and then hangs/stop responding.

With my JTAG 500gb hd connected and starting the application it shows me partition 1/2/3 but no contents at all inside any of them. I'm not interested in formatting or backing it up so can't verify if those work for me.

I need a dump of the partion header for partition 3 from a 500gb or larger HDD. I think I know why none of the FATX utilities work on the larger drives but I need to verify it.

If anyone can dump the sector at 0x130eb0000 and send it to me I would be very appreciative. biggrin.gif

XBox 360 Commander rev 3

This revision has the fix for HDD > 250gb in size. There still are issues with the large drives. I can't test this directly so I need feed back!
TraJiK
Still having issues getting the program to recognize my "internal" 3.5" 1.5TB HDD. Then again, I haven't been able to get any explorer programs to see the files. Partitions all pop up, with nothing inside them, but drive runs fine in the console itself. (FTPing, transferring through console, playing games, etc.)

I'm not sure if version 3 of your program is setup to read HDD's > 250GB AND formatted by Xbox only, (no hex editing, etc.) I'm also using a hollowed-out USB external HDD case to connect the SATA drive to my laptop, not a transfer cable, if that makes a difference. Does Commander only scan for drives that are connected via SATA? And does it only scan for drives that have been cloned to resemble 20, 60, 120, or 250GB partition setups?

Would love to see this tool work for my drive, as it looks to have tons of potential once complete. Thanks for all the hard work.

XBox 360 commander scans all hard drives connected to the computer. It looks to see if the HDDSS is present to to verify the hard drive is for XBox 360. So a HDDSS must be present or it ignores the drive.
It will check to see if the HDDSS size matches the physical drive size. If they are different it will ask if you wish to update the HDDSS. If you do not update it it ask you which size to use to calculate the cluster chain size.

Also the latest version checks the cluster size for the partitions.

Ah, fair enough. So i guess since my 1.5TB HDD doesn't have an official Xbox 360 HDDSS, it can't be recognized by Commander. That is the problem that I've had with all other explorer applications out there too. Bummer... Is there no other way to recognize these unofficial drives? as I'm sure I'm not the only one out there with this issue.

So, if I patch my 500 GB drive with an HDDSS for 250 GB, then Commander finds the drive and will ask me to update the HDDSS because the physical HDD size is 500 GB. Correct?

Yes. You can use any HDDSS. XBox 360 Commander will reconize the hard drive as an XBox 360 hard drive.

It will make a backup of the HDDSS found on the drive before patching it.

Working on it. I am going to add a check for FATX partitions 1 and 3 on the drives. If they are there then I will assume that it is a usable XBox 360 hard drive. I am not going to check for partition 2 because it seems some drives don't have the emulation partition installed. I hope that this will get your drive reconized

My official 120GB on my JTAG box is now working. I noticed a bug. Seems like if you try to drag something out of the app, it locks the app into thinking it is still dragging no matter what.

Is there no way to manually right click and save off/on individual files/folders from the hard drive? Drag and drop of files to and from would be nice or just rightclick and save menu option to save manually.
