I always thought the name "x-box" was misleading, for its not really a box. Presenting the X-Crate.
With all the Halo parties I go to, I needed something easier to transport. All materials from Home Depot, and has a locked latch with heavy duty steel handle on the top for easy carry. Its footprint is about 7" x 8" making it significantly smaller and more manageable.

With a 120gig WD SE drive, cold blue 4" cathode, and 1/2" thick wood, I decided to use a spare 92mm fan I had laying around. With 2900 RPM and Air Delivery of 55.1 CFM, my system stays cooler than it ever did before. You can feel the air being sucked through the vertical side vents.

I would like to put a mono left-channel speaker on the front next. Any comments and suggestions for improvements are appreciated! smile.gif

screw mono man make that thing have full stereo. it'll make up for the big size..... actually having a flip up 30 inch plasma screen would be pretty sweet too, but who's got the money ya know

it looks big by itself, but tomorow I'll take some comparison pics.

an 5" LCD on the bottom of the lid would be nice and cheap. Would make it just as portable as a Gamecube

I recommend covering the fan with a metal grill, or making a wood one.

I was thinking about making a case out of an ammo-can from the surplus store... Just have to *insulate* it well biggrin.gif
brahm2
cool

neat idea!

Glad to see you didn't follow the "silver/gray" trend or the "I want all my components to match" trend. HAHA. That thing is ugly. But it also looks great.
Fokus
I like it a lot, kind of TOM GREEN meets Macgiver(how do you spell his name again)...

VERY COOL and ORIGINAL!

Here's a link to a page where someone has built their mini-itx into a ammo can if it helps.

its pretty kool, i dont like how 1-2 ports are higher than the 3-4 ports are lower. Also, ya you should cover that fan. That throws it off a bit. Anyways its pretty kool, i probably wouldnt want it but its original

OMFG, my thoughts exactly... ugly but original.. never seen anything like this before.
ianmalcm
expect more pics later today, batteries are charging.

A "flammable" logo steel grill is on its way.

I think what I'll do is sand it down smooth, and use a nice mahogany stain on it. That way it matches the furniture and will look expensive. tongue.gif

i made something similar cept i put a nes, snes, n64, and a game cube in a big ass wooden case, I'll put pictures up as soon as i get hosting and finish all the switches and connector drill holes (A REAL BITCH WHEN YOU HAVE FOUR SYSTEMS IN A CASE)

Looks big, then it looks little. Looks big, then it looks little.

Come on where's the pic with it next to it's old case. Or put a joystick or something!
ianmalcm
This is about as small as it can get from front to back, without dissambling the DVD drive. I left about 1" of space on the right side of the motherboard for extra additions, like a cathode, small speaker, or whatever I think of next. Its much easier to carry around than the original case, almost like a lunchbox. I'm thinking small hooks and some long velcro strips would be good on the sides to hold controllers for easy transport.

This is the most original xBox case I have seen thus far.

One thing I would do, BURN IT!!!

Get a wood burners tool and burn on some designs, hell I would copy the Panzer Dragoon Orta design on dat bad boy!!!
TheOtherBob
I love it, great job!

ps. Have you thought of making a scaled down pallet to put underneath it?
Hodr
Just thought this mod deserved a bump.
Took_The_Red_Pill
you mentioned that there's a cathode in there.... i want a pic of the box while the cathode is on. if it was red it'd look like the inside of the box is burning. that'd be pretty cool actually.
GREGWILLRULEYOU
i like it very detailed wink.gif
drunkinstoner
wow!!!!!! you definately get the paul bunyan best mod award biggrin.gif
and who said beer and modding dont mix beerchug.gif

If that's your xbox, what's the TV look like?! wink.gif
ADAWG69
That is cool, never seen anything like that!
sg-xbox
this is the first and one of the most rad ideas i've ever seen.

my only concern would be shock to the chasis and the effect it may have on the internal components.

otherwise, well done and a great-looking toy!
johnnobts
uhm, i'm thinkin a few coats of polyurithane... and maybe some anti-termite treatment... uh, wood is good i guess. call me a hi-fi nerd but i'll stick with coolermaster cases.
NeO529
im thinking this thread is old. unsure.gif
